"All the negative reviews are wrong!"
I just don't get all the negative reviews. This vacuum for what it is, is awesome. I have had it for several years now. People just expect everything from a cheap vacuum. Yes, this is not made for rugs but does a good job just for surface cleaning on them. They use this vacuum for everything and try to vacuum their rugs too. It cannot, and I repeat cannot vacuum rugs sufficient enough because it does not have an aggitator. And to top it off I guarantee they hardly ever, ever clean out the unit. This Shark is extremely strong and does a phenominal job on hardwood, tile and solid surfaces. I have been through many vacuum's because my whole house is brazillian cherry and tile. I do have some area rugs and I surface clean them also. When I need to deep clean I bust out the monster. You must take the canister apart a couple times a month and clean it out. Most people just think they can use a clogged up vacuum all the time. It has to be cleaned. You would not believe the dirt it picks up after you clean it. And if you see that it picks up alot of dirt, IT MUST BE CLEANED! The hepa filter is expensive and does clog quickly. What I do is take it out, get a steak knife and run it through the pleats to pull out all the built up dust, but do not cut through it. Then I run it through hot water and air dry it. Now, if this is to much work for you then there is no vacuum out there that could work for you. Hire a maid.

"amazing"
I bought this after many other stick vacs. I have tile and wood floor and could not find anything to actually suck up the dirt instead of just blowing it around. I asked the store if I didn't like it could I return it and since they said yes I took it home. This thing is amazing!!! It sucked up so much dirt I was amazed. I also used it on my area rugs and I could not believe how much dirt came up. You do have to empty the container once or twice during cleaning the whole house but that is fine with me. Just the fact it is getting up that much when the floors look clean still blows me away. I bought one for my sister the next week I was so happy with it and she loves it too!!!

"Great for the price for small jobs with NO carpet"
I have a small studio (<700 sq feet) that is all hardwood floors with only small area rugs. This vacuum is great for my needs - it picks up all the dust bunnies under the bed and all of the hair that accumulates in the bathroom. It is also light to carry, and very importantly is small and compact. There's a handy side tubing that works well for small corners or spaces between furniture. The cord wraps up neatly on the back of the vacuum with a little clip on the plug part that keeps it in place.

There are definitely numerous shortcomings. The canister is small and I have to empty it twice when I vacuum the whole place. The HEPA air filter has to be tapped clean after each use, and my palm gets sore after doing so. The indicator light that tells you when the filter is dirty turns on after only 10-20 seconds of use. It does not do well on my area rugs, especially in the bathroom where I have to use a lint roller to pick up hair and dust from the rug there. Lastly, it's very loud so I've considered earplugs when using it in the bathroom.

Overall it's an inexpensive vacuum that has served me well for almost 4 years now.

"This vacuum sucks. And not in a nice way."
Let me preface this review by saying, "I have no one to blame but myself." I violated two of my own hard and fast rules, 1. NEVER buy an electric/electronic product that is on sale for no discernible reason and 2. NEVER shrug off the negative reviews other people have made.

I went ahead and bought it because the previous Shark I owned (very similar in appearance) I loved! This one sucks big time (see Title). First, every hair on your floor will soon clog the brushes on the NONrolling brush head AND the rolling brushhead - and I do mean SOON. The PREfilter, a small, circular blob, fills up alarmingly fast and is impossible to clean. It is roughly 2.5 inches in diameter, thick and flimsy (don't ask) and cannot be banged against anything to remove the huge gobs of ycch it traps (unless you don't mind damaging all your knuckles). I have resorted to taking it outside (in my 15 degree winter) and trying to rinse it with the faucet - one must grip the filter in both hands and hold it under the faucet to remove even a small trace of yccch, all of which splashes into your face. The filter itself is a snap to clean because nothing ever gets through the prefilter.

I bought the vacuum because of my experience with the previous Shark and because it is small and I have a very small place.

I will not ever buy another Shark. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

"poor"
This vacumm is awful. It did not pick up a thing. What a waste of money. It did a great job of sucking.

What our customer's say!

"Good for auto detailing", This little machine is not much good as a household vacuum. The main problem is that it has no agitator. It won't clean carpets very well at all. It does have pretty good suction, so it does a decent job on hard surfaces but the dust cup is rather small so it probably won't handle a whole room.
On the other hand, it's better than a dust buster. It has better suction and more flexibility. As long as you don't expect it to replace your regular vacuum, it's pretty useful. The best use I've found for it is in my car. After I use the shop vac to clean the seats and carpets, I can use the small tools from the Euro-pro to get into those little crevices between the seats.
I give it three stars because it only does a really good job on that single task. I have also used it to vacuum stairs, where it's portability is an asset, but it's only moderately effective there.

"Awful Vacuum Cleaner", We got this vacuum cleaner along with the Shark handheld as a wedding present.
It's awful!
The vacuum has 4 filters in it that clog almost instantly when in use, rendering the cleaner useless. The suction, even when the filters are clean, is not very good, and it has a particularly shrill motor noise (not that any vacuum makes a pleasant sound). Also, the wheels seem to be made like those on a toy car, and they don't turn very well. It's really hard to push or pull the thing.
This vacuum makes vacuuming even worse of a chore than it should be. Avoid at all costs!

"some drawback but picks up fleas", This vacuum has to emptied and cleaned frequently to run well. The filters are somwhat expensive and need to be washed. However, when the fleas start to jump on the dog and make themselves at home in my house other vacuums just don't seem to have the same power of eviction. The dog stops scratching.

"shark report", bought this because my sister recommended it for being lightweight but having good suction. Was most pleased with the Amazon price and free super saver shipping.

"Not recommended.", I have had this vacuum for a few years. Although it seems to have good suction when you hold your hand up to it, I have found it to be inconsistent.

The dust container is easy to empty, but the HEPA filter seemed to clog quickly and didn't clean easily in spite of following the instructions. The Hepa's are expensive to replace too! Like another reviewer, we operated with two vac's, one for our rugs, and this one as a supplemental vac for hose functions. Still, I wasn't satisfied with it and eventually gave it away.

I would not recommend this vacuum!!

"Dumpster Treasure", I found one of these, virtually brand new, in the dumpster at work. I cleaned the SHEET ROCK dust out of the filter (It was completely clogged) and washed the hepa filter as instructed. It works just fine! We have several cats and they tend to track cat litter (Its the kind made from corn) around the pans..........This thing cleans it up just fine and did a fairly good (quickie)cleaning on our livingroom carpet. Picked up LOTS of cat hair. I'm impressed. It does just fine for a $60.00 stic-vac. The hose & attachments seem to work better that the actual vac but I'm sure it will work well for a car vac. Easy to empty and not TOO noisy.

"Good product but HORRIBLE customer service", Works great on hard surfaces and carpets. Customer Service is horrible, though. We enrolled in the "Shark Free Filter For Life" Program but haven't received a filter in over a year (the program stipulates one every 6 months). When I called the toll-free number, the agent was unfriendly and unknowledgeable. She never apologized once about the missing filters. When I asked what had happened, all she was willing to give me was that I didn't receive the filters because of "some technical problem." I would NOT get another Shark vacuum for this reason.

"the filter sucks", the hepa filter is too tight to let the air through and the vacuum overheats and needs emptying constantly. the filters are expensive $12-24 dollars each and with shipping.... you could keep buying new vacuums

"More effort than value", This vacuum is a big disappointment. It quits working after about 10 minutes of use due to overheating and will not start again for up to an hour. The filter has to be cleaned/replaced very often. Does not work at all on carpets or area rugs. More effort than it is worth.

"Probably not suitable for household use...", As other reviewers had pointed out, you have to clean this vacuum pretty often. The vacuum is not good at handling lint and small particles, and I happen to have a lot of those in my apartment. What happens is that lint would clog the preliminary filter made of a metallic net, and fine dust ends up clogging HEPA filter. These dirt have no where to go but to stay on the filter, which have very small surface area, so overall the performance is worse than a bagged vacuum cleaner, which at least have a large surface area to trap the dirt.

The HEPA filter is also difficult to clean. They claim you can "tap" it, but in reality I find myself having to bang it against a hard surface. It is the only way to make dirt come off. Banging it also causes dust to fly all over the place. Inhaling the fine dust trapped by HEPA could be fatal.

In my case, trying to vacuum a 200 sq ft. carpeted room usually takes me 1 hour because I have to clean it every 20 seconds of use; otherwise the motor would overheat. The dust bin would still be nearly empty. It has been that way since the very first time I used it.
