"Coffee Grinder Upgrade" Having purchased a Kuerig single cup coffee maker, I decided it was time to get a more precise coffee bean grinder. The Krups GVX2 fit the bill.It provides exceptional performance & control of the grind. I needed a consistant fine grind to work best with the individual cup maker. The Krups grinder is a great value as well. "Smooth, quick, quiet coffee grinder" I chose this burr grinder to replace a high-quality but fragile Bodum machine I got tired of repairing. I wish I had done so years ago. After careful cleaning and setup (NECESSARY) I get small quantities of perfectly ground coffee delivered quickly and quietly from a machine which occupies little counter space. This burr grinder does exactly what you want and does it well. "Quiet and Easy to Use" This grinder replaced a Braun that we had used for over 12 years, but the change in the Braun to a fixed hopper left us looking for something else. The Krups is incredibly quiet compared to the Braun and the settings are even easier to use. Grind coarseness is set by a knob on the side and can be changed at will. The amount of coffee ground is set by a knob on the front and is very accurate for the way we like our coffee. The hopper slides out and is narrower making it easier to empty into our coffee machine without spilling grounds. Yes, coffee sticks to the plastic hopper, but it rinses off easily and is ready for the next grinding chore quickly. We are very happy with this machine. "Don't Buy, It Breaks" For a cheap grinder, it grounds alright, but the safety features are extremely small and they can break off easily. Once they break, you may as well throw the grinder in the trash. "Spend more and get something better" This machine was our first experience with a burr grinder. We owned it for a little over a year. One day it just quit. While it worked, as others have said, it got the job done but required a lot of fussing around to find the right settings. Sometimes the beans would get stuck in the hopper and the motor would race. Static cling was often a problem (this seems to be weather-related). It was difficult to remove the top half of the burr wheel for cleaning. The grinder surfaces were small, and the whole thing just didn't seem very durable. I am now in the market for something better.

What our customer's say! "Worked -- for a while", I bought this grinder a little over a year ago when my previous grinder which I had used for over 15 years started acting funny. What a disappointment! I had always thought of Krups as a good brand overall. First it stopped grinding fine enough and it was on the finest setting and then about a month later it just stopped. So I worked on the old one some and got it back working for now. This was a bad choice. "No idea why this gets low reviews", I received this grinder as a present, around two years ago. And I used it in the beginning for a french press with roasted beans from a shop, then i started with a stovetop espresso machine (the bodum mocha, GREAT coffee maker). That requires a finer grind, then I also got the Bodum El Santos (great for making lots of coffee, but a steep learning curve). That needed a much rougher grind. I also started roasting my own beans, and that is what I use exclusively. In all this time, using this grinder somewhere around 10 times a week, for years, it has never ever jammed. So I am really unsure how people can get it to jam at all. It is relatively quiet, very reliable, nice design. The only thing that I could say is that the blue LED power light is pretty bright. It's also very easy to clean too, the entire grinder assembly opens up so you can clean inside it. I think it's great! "Great little machine", Great little machine. It grinds fine enough for Turkish coffee. I never use the higher settings. Yes, it does jam sometimes and makes a hideous noise when doing so, but I have found just giving it a good whack dislodges the offending bean and it then continues on its merry way. It has never overheated or forced me to take it apart to unjam. I will say that keeping it clean is a VERY good idea. Once a month, I put in a cup of uncooked RICE and grind those grains up-- it cleans it beyootifully! "More Frustrating Than It's Worth", As mentioned in other reviews, this machine has frequent hopper jams which is a fundamental design flaw. I've owned, and do own, other Krups products which have performed well- this is definitely below par. "beans won't continuously fall to grind- wished I had not purchased", We are about ready to toss this one into the garbage. The beans don't fall into the grinder. I have to constantly shake it to get it to work. At first this would happen sparingly, but it's progressively worse after only a few months. For the price we paid, I'm surprised and disappointed by the quality of this grinder. We'll be looking for a new one that isn't this model. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "OK...but not great", I have owned this grinder for less than 3 years. I use it 4-5 times a week on average. I grind only for myself. Last week I pushed the grind button and it disappeared inside the grinder. I sent it to a certified Krups repair and was notified that the parts necessary to repair were no longer available (remember it is less than 3 years old and this model is still for sale). I would urge potential buyers to shop around and spend a little more for another manufacturer. "Great Tast'n coffee", I love my new grinder, I have been experimenting with different beans and the coffee tastes fresh and delicious. I do notice, however, that there have been a few times that the grinder will whine as if something is stuck, when that happens it does not make the proper amount of coffee. Not ever using a burr grinder before I am not sure why this happens or even if it should. Once I remove the upper burr and remove any partial beans, it will work fine, but I wonder why I would need to remove the upper burr after each and every use in order for this to operate properly. "A Superior Grinder", Krups GVX1-14 Burr Grinder , Black I bought this grinder to replace an old (25 years old!) Waring burr grinder. Was concerned about the height, but at just 10 1/2" high, it fits nicely in my coffee cabinet. Rubber feet keep the machine firmly in place when grinding, and the noise is not unusually loud for a burr grinder. Seventeen settings assure a perfect, even grind from coarse to powder fine. The unit is easy to clean and a small brush is provided for removing excess ground coffee from the hopper. My only complaint is that the burr must be removed and cleaned frequently, and this was a little tricky for arthritic fingers. Grinder can be set to grind for 2 to 12 cups of coffee. Has an illuminated off/on bean hopper light. Safety feature: grinder will not operate unless hopper and lid are in place. A good-looking, well-engineered, superior grinder and well worth the money. "Great Grunder", I have read the other reviews and I must say that I don't want to make an Espresso or some French Grind. I am from Texas and we ain't crazy about French anything!! I do love a good cup of Eight O' Clock coffee in the morning. I grind up some of that and slap it into my Bunn coffee maker and presto, the best cup of coffee in the world. I don't really make an issue of the cleanup 'cause if your too stupid to set the grinder in the sink and then tap it until all the grinds come off the machine you shouldn't own one anyway! Just a wipe down with a wet cloth and your done. This grinder is consistent and if you need a part you just go to the web site and order it. Dirt cheap! If you want a fancy $200.00 grinder then get one but this one is simple and you ain't got to be an genius to operate the thing. "Increasingly annoying, stopped working at 6 mo mark", Despite the reviews, I bought this in January 2008. I grind about 2 pounds a month--freshly roasted Kona beans. I bought it because the grower in Kona had disparaged the "whirlybird" Krups chopper I'd used for 10 years. The Krups grinder worked OK at first. Then it began being harder and harder to start...lots of fiddling with the lid and parts. Today, 6 months after we ordered ot, it stopped working altogether. If I can find the warranty info I might return it. Ground the rest of the pound with my trusty whirlybird chopper. DO NOT BUY THIS!!!! ![]() |
