Others say...
"ubreakable but not perfect" I bought this coffee press after breaking a glass one. The plastic construction is great, especially for someone as clumsy as me. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the mesh filter. The one-piece plunger construction is convenient but I find that it's easy for grounds to get around the rubber edge of the mesh. "BonJour Hugo" Bought this to supplement a Stainless Steel unit we use from "Next Day Gourmet" (apparently no longer available). This one is obviously not quite as substantial but works fine for our needs. The top on the BonJour doesn't lock on like our other unit but other than that we're satisfied with the performance. "Unbreakable, yet it broke!" So disappointed! I had a terrific glass french press for 9 years, until I accidentally hit it to hard against the waist basket to get the grounds out. I thought I'd be smart and buy this unbreakable one. The beaker itself is not glass, and thus unbreakable, but the plunger parts are made of plastic, unlike the stainless steel parts in my old one. To my surprise, after about 10 uses, the plastic cracked into several pieces for no apparent reason. Now I am shopping for another one, and will probably go back to glass, hoping that all the parts will be of decent quality. "Better than breaking" I have had 4 glass french presses and all have broken. Either buy this or Bodum's metal Columbia line. I chose to go cheap, bought this product, and I'm not disappointed. The previous reviews (you can read below) echo my experience. 10 steps for great coffee: 1. Buy whole beans from a good source. 2. Freeze them in your freezer (this preserves the essential oils that make great coffee). 3. Grind them when you want to make coffee. A cheap spice/coffee grinder works fine. The grind should be chunky, not powdery. Put it in the french press. 4. Use a press, like this one. (duh) 5. The press requires boiled water-- boil it in a kettle (one with a whistle) and pull the kettle off heat... when it ceases to make any whistle/gurgle/chortle noise, That's about the right temperature for the french press. 6. Pour it in the press. 7. WET the plunger and insert in the press, just above the level of the liquid. 8. Set a timer for 4-5 minutes. 9. After time is expired, push the plunger down SLOWLY to the bottom. 10. Pour and enjoy! Gotta go, the timer just went off. "best press i have owned" This French press is my third. It the the best one yet -and THE CHEAPEST, and MOST RUGGED. A few weeks ago mine got knocked off the kitchen table and hit the floor, and thanks to the rubber base and the sturdy construction it survived. No more Bodum for me, Bon Jour from now on.

What our customer's say! "Unbreakable? Depends on the part...", Sure, the canister isn't glass and won't shatter when dropped. But the plastic pieces that hold the filter together are a joke. I bought two of the BonJours (an extra just in case since we run a B&B and many guests love our French coffee) in April. Six weeks later, both have broken in the same spot. And the season here is just starting... The good news is, the unbreakable BonJour canister will work with the unbreakable Bodum filter apparatus which is made out of metal, so I hope I won't have to buy either brand ever again! "Better than Bodum", This one is better than Bodum. Bodum makes cheapo filters that have sharp edges and cut your fingers. We have a Bonjour one that we've used for years and it is way better. "Doesn't fit in my microwave", I bought this so I could put it in the microwave. But it doesn't fit. Otherwise it's a nice French press. "Best French Press", I have been through many french presses, and have had to buy more carafes than I care to remember. This one has an unbreakable carafe, it's light-weight and has the best press that I've ever used. It doesn't let any grounds get by. Doesn't get any better than this! "Great Coffee Press", This coffee press is great! It is so easy to clean, I love not having to worry about it breaking, and it is very light weight. I recently had to purchase a new one as I tried to put it in the microwave not realizing it does have a metal screw by the handle...ooops! This caused the plastic to bubble up by the screw, and while it was still functionsal (used it for another 8 months or so), I got sick of trying to get around the bubble and purchased a new one along with the Braun countertop electric water kettle (fabulous), and so I dont need the microwave and have piping hot coffee in mere minutes! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Not as good as expected!", Bought this item based on previous reviews and because I wanted an "unbreakable" french press. The problem I have with this unit is that it allows grounds to clog the pour filter very quickly making it necessary to remove the plunger unit and clear the filter before the coffee cup is filled. I don't know if I received a bad unit or if this is a problem with this model, but it definetly makes it a hassle when using it. It does make a good cup of strong coffee if you don't mind clearing the filter in the middle of your pour. "Still good after three months", I broke my old glass Bodum, and switched to the Bonjour "unbreakable" model. It works as advertised. The plastic carafe is definitely not going to break under normal usage. And the filter itself is not plastic, as some have indicated -- it's metal with a metal pushrod, anchored to a very tough plastic chassis, with a rubber edge to provide the seal against the sides of the carafe. I rarely get grinds to breach the seal, and when I do, it's only a couple. Push the plunger slowly (don't force it), and you should get a very nice pot of java every time. I definitely recommend this over any glass press. ""unbreakable"", Having had a stroke and able to use only one hand, I was delighted to find an unbreakable French press after going through 3 glass presses. It is equal in every aspect as the glass ones. "French Press", I gave this to my daughter because she camps alot and she was delighted to have the unbreakable French Press. "Overall very good", This press was just about what I expected, no surprises. It's easy to use and clean, makes great tasting coffee. My only (minor) complaint is that sometimes it's *really* hard to push down the press/plunger. And sometimes when I push really hard, the plunger will hardly move, but the coffee will shoot out the top. This rarely happens though. Overall I'm happy with this purchase. It's definitely worth the price. ![]() |
