"Gaggia 35008 Appears to be a good machine"
Arrived quickly, in good condition, and was exactly as advertised.
I had used a steam pressure espresso machine for several years and was hoping that a pump machine would be as much of an improvement as I had been told.
It certainly is.
I have been using it at least once daily for about a month and I'm quite happy with it. The more you use it the better you get but I was making MUCH better espresso (compared to my steam machine) with the first try. I have no need for the steam wand, have not used it so cannot report on it.
I have noticed a very few bad reviews of this machine. If you are looking for a machine you stick coffee in, push a button and walk away expecting to come back in a few minutes to find a pot, or cup, of coffee waiting, then you need a coffee machine and not an espresso machine.
It's a bit like making a tasty snack or treat. You MAKE it. You don't wait for it to be made for you.
The machine does make a little noise when it's pumping but not much. Now if you want to make espresso without the person in the next room knowing, then you need the stealth version (there is no "stealth version", it's a joke son, I say a joke). They'll smell it anyway and show up for their share sooooo...........
It looks fine to me but how it looks is not important to me. I got it to make good espresso, not impress guests with how great it looks sitting on the counter. My wife likes it's looks though and I guess that IS important.
I'm glad I got it.

"Melted knob but still good"
I still will recommend this product even though the plastic frothing knob melted the first time I used it. Yes, I followed their directions. Be warned to make sure the frothing knob turns freely before powering up the first time since the brass stem gets VERY HOT and can melt the knob. My knob turned and turned but I didnt know it was turning nothing since it melted and I thought the frother was broken. This is a design flaw since a more heat-resistent plastic should have been used. Gaggia reps said they will send a new one so I hope they keep their word. Other than that noise is not a big deal since it lasts about 20 seconds and I don't hear it when I am drinking the coffee. ;) Froth is nice too after you figure the best technique.

"Don't buy it"
This machine has terrible quality control. The distributor nozzles (at the bottom of the metal cup) are not metal - they're plastic, AND the plastic was not properly formed from the factory, so I had to create openings with a hot screwdriver to allow both nozzles to work.

Two brews later, it stops producing at all. The pump buzzes, but nothing comes out. Not good, as in USELESS.

Brewing good coffee is something I expect from Gaggia. In this case, they do not deliver.

Now let's see how good Amazon's return policy is.

"noisy gaggia carezza "
best gaggia for the money. but the drip tray is so shallow it's a joke. also, only inconsiderate people would use this machine while others are sleeping; it's pretty loud, especially at first. i like my saeco better but it's another $100-150. it's quieter and usually produces thicker crema with its nifty pressurized group. i say "usually" because if you get the grind right, the gaggia will match the saeco. otherwise, it won't. but if $200 is your limit, you can match anyone else's espresso if you get a decent burr mill. you can spend more, but the $60 cuisinart mill works fine for me with the saeco. and if you have the patience, a programmable blade mill (so you can keep track of the time) will work with either. but it's not nearly as foolproof as a good burr mill.

"What a reliable machine this is!"
I have had this for 2 years now, still works every bit as good as the day I bought it. It does take a while to figure it out. Most important thing is the grinder and bean quality. Fabulous crema, and awesome lattes.

Be sure to get a good coffee burr grinder otherwise this will not perform at the best level. Also use good coffee beans, (make sure they are not oily, preferably medium roast, organic). I will reccommend Breville Icon Burr grinder, it works like a charm with this. Best ever espresso pulls.

The steam milk frother can get stuck, needs occasional cleaning. Just remove the wand, clean it, and put it back. Works great!

What our customer's say!

"Makes great lattes, but is a bit messy", Just got mine. It's a silver model even though I ordered a gray (almost black) model from someone other than Amazon. Do yourself a big favor and order it from Amazon. If you have been using a blade grinder, throw it away and buy a nice burr grinder. I bought a Baratza Maestro and it made a world of difference, even when making "regular" coffee. Trust me on this! The Carezza is pretty neat. It looks good and makes great lattes. However, it is a bit messy using the frother. See it tucked neatly back in the picture? It doesn't do that in reality. Also, it dribbles occasionally and you should do a purge of any water that collected before you froth. It's going to go on the counter, but it's only water. The frother (the black plastic thing) has a few components and a couple are small. Don't wash them in the sink or they may disappear down the drain. Water fills from a door on the top. I use a measuring cup, but it can get splashy as the Carezza is rather tall. Lastly the space between the Portafilter and the drip tray is ony 2.5 inches. Get some shot cups (I use) or a low demitasse or latte cup to catch the brew. Other than that, it works great and makes great lattes when you get the hang of it. To help you, Gaggia gives you a manual which is pretty complete, but kind of weird to read. Plus you get a tutorial CD, which tells you how to use the Carezza (and several of their upscale models). It came in handy after reading the manual. The water tank is easy to check, but the Power and Ready LEDs are bit hard to see. If you jump out of bed and make a brew, put in your eye drops and grab your readers and you will be fine. I was mightily impressed by the output of my Carezza. Buy one before the dollar sinks any lower. These Italians know their coffee business!

"Don't buy. Very noisy and no crema", The pump is very noisy on this machine.
You must use its special crema device to have creamy foam. But, you can not use it on the double shot filter and the crema is not perfect. I'm looking for another machine.

"Great starter Machine", Makes a decent cup of espresso. Has a bit of a leak out-of-the-box for me but does fine.

"Great espresso, bad machine", Got this, set it up, made espresso. Tasted Great!!!

BUT--Less than a week after I received this machine the knob on top for frothing the milk melted! The inside threads stripped and I had to use a wrench to turn the frother off. After several weeks they did send a (free)replacement. But the post the knob sits still on got very very hot and I suspected this would have happened again, so I took the knob off until just before I needed to froth. That sort of worked.

Okay, so that was an annoying problem. Then, less than two months after I began using it, it simply stopped working. It would not heat up. The heating element burned out. I assume my earlier melted-knob problem might have been caused by the heating element over-heating and that's why it burned itself out. But the mfr. told me I left it on too long and that's why it burned out and they would not fix it. So I now have a $250 paperweight sitting on my garage floor.

Get something else. Great coffee, but very unreliable.

"Works well", We just received the Gaggia 35008 last week. We read all the reviews first and decided that we would try this out. We were concerned with the complete "split" of those who either completely loved it or hated it. Turns out, the problems that were cited in the reviews - drippy frother, muddy mess, complicated workings - we encountered the first day, but these were all due to operator error (the directions are not as concise or plain as they should be) and after some practice we're enjoying cappuccino every morning. I used to have a Krups espresso maker and I loved it for 12 years (finally broke). Though cheap, that coffee just doesn't compare to this and I find that the "ritual" of coffee making is not that much more effort with this machine. They spent all the money on the brass insides. Do wish that it had a heavier body - but whadya get these days for 200 bucks?

"AWESOME", This machine is everything I expected and the delivery was very fast. Awesome coffee and DVD. The best things in the world are made in Italia: Gucci, Ferrari, Fendi, and my coffee from my Gaggia!
Ciao

"Gaggia Carezza", Instruction booklet is pretty meager. Water reservoir is awkward to fill and position. Front tray is flimsy and doesn't fit well onto machine. First one didn't work and had to be sent back. Customer service was excellent.
Second one makes pretty good expresso.

"Gaggia 35008 Carezza Espresso Machine", I am very pleased with my new espresso machine. The only inprovement I would make would be to the length/position of the steamer spout. It is so long, that I must tip my cream pitcher, nearly to the point of spilling the contents, in order to get the steamer spout inside the pitcher. My last machine, the Baby Gaggia, had a better steamer spout design.

"Not impressed yet", After weeks of research for a new espresso machine I decided on the Gaggia Carezza. I have yet to be impressed. I read the brief manual, watched the CD on my computer and turned it on. It is extremely LOUD. The thing rattles and shakes across the counter too. The filter holder does not slide in smoothly especially if you use the perfect crema disk. The "perfect" crema disc is far from perfect - it doesn't allow the stainless steel filter to fit correctly in the holder. After using the machine a few time the steam knob became stripped. I'm ready to trade it in. Another thing I do not like about this machine is you can only make one drink at a time. You have to cool down the pump to continue making espresso - long process if you are making more than one drink.

"Very nice machine", I would not assume that the previous one-star reviewer knows much about espresso.. mainly since he spelt it 'expresso' and used the term 'sucks' in his title. sounds like a disgruntled starbucks fan bummed out over not being able to produce a quality cup in a rush. well thats not exactly how the coffee world works. a rewarding cup of coffee commands dedication and patience. that said, this is a great machine which produces a fine cup of espresso whenever i want. highly recommended.
