"A Good Purchase Overall"
I bought this because I drink a lot of hot tea and I was concerned about using the microwave too much. My only real disappointment is that I was expecting it to boil the water a little faster. I think it may be slightly faster than boiling the water on my gas range, though, so I'm not sorry that I made the purchase. I love that it turns off automatically a few seconds after it reaches the boiling point. As someone else pointed out, be sure the top is pressed down securely before pouring the water, as it tends to leak if it's not.

"Heats water very fast!"
It is faster than the microwave. The only drawback is that the cord fits too loose and has to be wiggled into place.

"Fast"
The Proctor Silex kettle boils water very quickly - much faster than using the tea kettle on my gas stove. I like the feature that it automatically shuts off once the water boils so that it is a safer applicance.

"Great Product!!! Highly Recommended!!!"
I bought this product to replace an old tea kettle. I love to make tea and was looking for an energy efficient product which wouldn't require me to turn on the stove. This was it! It's extremely fast and boils the water, even when filled, in less than five minutes. The automatic shutoff is also a nice feature. This is one great electric kettle. You can't go wrong, and the price is right too. A wonderful product and a fantastic value. Bought it on Amazon. Pricing is much better than other sources. Buy one today! You won't be disappointed.

"No Complaints"
I (and some others in my office) have been using it for a while now and it works reliably and quickly. My only complaint is that the cover seems closed sometimes but it's not, which means the auto-shutoff won't work.

What our customer's say!

"Good kettle for the money", I've now bought two of these kettles and I'm completely satisfied with both of them. There isn't much to it. It does it's job and doesn't cost much. It boils water fairly quickly with no problems. My only two complaints are:
1) Short power cord. The cord that comes with it is only about 24" long. That was too short for where I wanted it in my office. However, it uses a standard PC power connection so a cord from an old computer or monitor works fine. If I could find a white cord it would even look like it was meant to be there.
2) The lid doesn't quite seal all the way and steam escapes near the handle. I have to be careful not to put my hand at the top of the handle when I go to pour from this kettle because steam leaks out of the back of the lid. The vent is over the spout but some steam comes out around the lid at its hinge. This isn't a problem but I have to be careful.

Overall, a very good kettle for the money. Works well for boiling eggs, too (4 eggs inside, turn on to boil, after kettle switches off leave eggs inside for 15 minutes) just like Alton Brown said it would.

"plastic-flavored water gives me a headache", Our unit produces boiled water with an unpleasant plastic flavor and smell. I occasionally also notice faint white foam on the surface that never evaporates or goes away. Drinking the water gives me a mild headache.

Later we bought a kettle with a stainless-steel interior, and the headaches went away.

The manual warns you that the first few times you boil water with it, the water will have a "plasticky" flavor. In our experience, that flavor never went away. We boiled water in it at least 20 times, using filtered water, and noticed the same problem.

"Awesome", I've loved this thing. It fits really nicely in a corner of my dorm room, and it's really convenient and fast. And it's very affordable.

"Why would you need an appliance to boil water...", ...asked my incredulous husband when this was delivered. Okay, so I didn't really need an electric kettle, but I couldn't pass this up when I saw it go for $0.99 and free shipping on Amazon. As it happens, I am pretty impressed with this simple, handy little thing, and use it more than I thought I would. Now when I cook, I always set some water to boil beforehand, so if I am making soups, sauces, curries, gravies etc, and if I have to add water in the middle of cooking, it can always be hot and not slow down the cooking like I used to do before. That factor alone makes it worth it for me.

And of course, like others, I also find it faster and more convenient than the microwave. And you can't beat the fact that it switches off automatically once it comes to boil. Plus that it's totally portable because the cord detaches at both ends. I initially didn't want to keep it because it's not fancy looking and didn't match anything in my kitchen, but it seems to have earned it spot on my counter so far.

"not so hot so fast", I bought this kettle for use at my mother's house in the U.S., and I'm really disappointed with it. It seems to take forever to begin to heat the water. It actually seems slower than the cooktop. If I had it to do over again I would definitely invest in buying a higher quality model.

"Best of size", This is the best small electric kettle I have found.

Cons: the coil is exposed rather than the flat bottom elements on larger kettles, so you must make sure the water completely covers the coil.

Pros: Very fast to boil, small size, takes up little counter space, auto-off at full boil, second safety switch off if used dry, the oblong shape takes little water to cover the coil, inexpensive.

This is a good safe electric kettle for a single person or a traveler. For family use at home, I use a Braun, but I take one of these to hotels, and chose one as a gift for a single person with a small kitchen.

"nice electric kettle", volume is 1.0 liter
boils water quickly
doesn't have a stand, power cord connects directly to the kettle
it is nice, reliable, and has a good value

"Great!", This little tea kettle works rapidly and accomodates about three "mugs" full of tea. I wish it were a little larger, but it's fine for now.

"Nice cattle", I bought 2 of this, one for home and one for office. It can serve no more than 2 people. So,not recommend for big family.

"OK for the price", This kettle does its job and is OK for the price, but for a bit more there are much better options. My inlaws got me this after accidentally putting not one, but two of my excellent T-Fal kettles on the stove where they promply melted. The T-Fal kettles heat the water much faster than the Proctor Silex, and they also effortlessly detach from their electric bases so they're completely portable without having to attach and detach any chords. The downside is the current T-Fal is about $25 more than the Proctor Silex, but given the speed differential and overall ease of use it's much more than worth the price difference in my opinion.
