"Here's what the Haier can handle in my apartment:"
We've had the Haier HLP21E machine since last February. My partner and I live in a tiny apartment with Ronald, an aging Greyhound who occasionally likes to flood our apartment with urine.

We do three-four loads of clothing and towels a week, in addition to a few rugs thick with Ronald fluids. This machine is a dynamo. I thought I'd have to do 6-7 loads a week, but the tub accommodates more than you think it would. For example: 2 bath towels, a few t-shirts, and all the socks and underwear you wear during the week OR 3 pairs of pants & 2-3 shirts, and some dishtowels, OR 1 full size sheet & 6 pillow cases. I can wash two unhappy throw rugs in this machine with no problem, it's fast and takes about a 1/8 cup of liquid detergent.

Some notes: I only use the quick wash unless I'm removing something biological. A few squirts of Zout stain remover and there's nothing I couldn't get clean with this washer. I find the main wash setting has too many rinse cycles and takes more water than needed. If you have delicates, you might find this machine is a little rough on things if it's crowded.

It is incredibly quiet, except for the chimes that go off when it's done or unbalanced. It's a snap to put together - put the bottom plate on correctly and balance it, no issues. And all that dog hair comes out via the drain so make sure it drains someplace where you can collect the lint that's too much for the filter. I found that adding fabric softener in the final rinse really helps to lessen wrinkles if you're hanging things to dry. We love this machine, it's small and effective, and cheap!

"GREAT"
I am in love.....with a portable washing machine! I really don't know how anyone has anything negative to say about this. I have had mine for 3 months now, granted it is not the quietest thing around it is also not the loudest! It washes so much more than the reviews say. I am a single mom and I only have to do laundry once a week. On a Saturday I'll do three loads tops! It will fit a weeks worth of my 4 years clothes!! Every time I pass the laundry mat I laugh. I just wish I knew about this years ago!! (Next is a dryer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

"this is exactly what i need..."
i was so excited when i received this washing machine. i use this machine for my baby's clothes. it's not loud and very easy to operate. size is just right. a must have for apartment dwellers.

"Superb! Absolutely the Best!!!!!"
When I first got this I was like it looks like a real washing machine and works like one too, what's perfect is that all of my utilities are included so thats what makes this a plus, that and its small size and no washer and dryer hookups in the apt. Hook tup to the sink with a simple twist plug it in and you're good to go. Wash to your hearts content clothes clothes come out just as good as a real washer. Thoroughly impressed and for 199, saw other models too pricey, this is well worth it.!!!!

"Great product for the price"
I've been using the HLP21E for the last month and it's been working great. You just need to make sure that you don't overload the machine. I recommend it for anyone looking for an easy alternative lightweight machine.

What our customer's say!

"Solution for water leakage from adaptor", I like to use my original aerator to wash dishes.Every time after laundry was done,I would unscrew the adaptor and switch back to my old aerator. Then I would switch back to the adaptor to do wash.A wrench is put near the sink for this purpose. It wasn't long before water began to leak.I called customer service but was told just to screw it tight, which I did and water still leaked.I thought of the teflon tape I used to install my shower head.I wrapped some around the adaptor about 3 turns. No water has ever leaked and I have not even changed the teflon tape.It costs only about 80 cents.I also taped the drain hose to the sink using masking tape.
Some of my tips for this machine are:
1.When I remove the quick connector,I wrap it around towel because water will shoot out even after faucet is turned off.
2.Machine tends to move a bit and the shop somehow got me caster wheels with locks.
3.It doesn't wash too big a load.It is hard to tell how much can be washed.I put clothes in a plastic shopping bad.It can hold about one and a half shopping bags of clothes.I turn on the washer and fill it up with water. After it is full,I open the lid and push clothes as further down as possible. So far,I have not had an unbalanced signal from the washer.
One complaint is that the control panel is too sensitive.Sometimes when I touch the panel and it is not even near the buttons, the machine would change to a different setting.
Where I am living now, electricity is cheap, about 6 cents per kwhr.It costs about $1 per month to use this washer.(I do about 8 to 10 washes a month). In the old days,I spent more than that for one wash in the laundromat.I still have to use the drier in the laundry room of this building but the savings have been considerable.

"excellent value, just enough features: what more do you need?", i've had my washer now for a week, and after 8 loads generally agree with most of the reviews here on amazon. this machine is my 2nd portable washer in the past 8 years (the 1st was a GE that was nearly full-sized). at this point i am happier with this machine and its smaller-sized load than i was with my previous machine that could handle 3x the amount of laundry.

this machine is very quiet, and somehow gets the clothes cleaner than the other larger machine. Haier claims this machine has a 6.6 pound capacity but in my experience a 5 pound load is what it handles well.

in pratcipal terms this 5 pound load of laundry equals:

* 4 bath towels

* a set of sheets (top, bottom and two pillow cases)

* 4 pairs of mens pants (3 khaki-types plus a pairs of denim jeans)

* about 8 pairs of socks, 6 boxers, 6 t-shirts

for me this means about 4 loads per week (i let a LOT of laundry piling up when i knew my washer was coming in a week). at the "Normal" setting a load of laundry takes about 40 minutes, and comes out very well "spun" and ready to hang-dry over night.

one thing i especially like about this washer is that while the tub is filling with water you can leave the cover open and add the detergent, then add the clothes before the agitation cycles begin. since this washer lacks a dispenser for detergent it is convenient to add the detergent to the machine while it fills.

there are three wash cycles (heavy, normal and quick), and three water levels. the other options are for a spin and a rinse. the control panel has membrane buttons similar to a microwave oven. the lid to the washer is made of transparent plastic which seems like a nice touch but in practice if you use even warm water this window clouds over from the steam.

using this washer is a bit more "hands-on" than a full size washing machine. for example you must adjust your water temperature manually, since there is only one hose that supplies water from a faucet. after the wash cycle begins you can turn your sink faucet to "cold" if you want cold water for the rinse, then you can walk away.

the drain hose must be in place in the sink, shower, or bath tub. the drain hose has a U-shape on the end that can be used to hang it in place. i've found the best arrangement in my bathroom is to hang this from the bar on the inside of my glass shower doors. this points the water into the tub and down the drain.

some of the other reviews mention that the user's guide is confusing. i did take the time to read through before i began setting up and using the machine and found that the instructions are about as good as you can expect with this type of product--and really not the worst i've ever seen.

one problem i did encounter was that the instructions seem to suggest that an item known as a "thread adapter" is included, but it is not (reading reviews on amazon and also walmart you will find several mentions of this item being missing). the "thread adapter" is a fitting that might be needed to attach the "quick connect" to your faucet, depending if you have "inside threads" or "outside threads" on your sink faucet. i happened to have a "thread adapter" on hand (it came with a Brita water filter) so i was able to set up my machine without an unplanned trip to the hardware store.

another minor problem that i have encountered is that when you're done using the washer and want to un-hook the water hose from your sink, the hose will be filled with about a cup of water that could spill onto the floor. on solution is to turn off the water, remove the hose from your sink and hold the free end up, then turn on the "power" to the washer and hit the "normal" wash cycles button. this will allow any water in the hose to drain into the wash tub. if you use the washer ever few days this small amount of water in the tub should not be any problem. you could also catch the water into a small container so that it doesn't end up in tub between uses.

"Great for new parents", We got this machine right after our daughter was born and have been using it almost everyday since then. It fits plenty of baby items or two large towels at once. We do about three loads at a time. The clothes are done in about 30 minutes. They don't come out dripping and most of them get dry overnight.
The machine is small enough that fit it into a corner in the bathroom. We recommend it for small places. We've been using and abusing it for a while without any problems.

"Good product! Very easy for use!", I bought this small washing machine two weeks ago. It costs me some money, but it is absolutely worth! It is very easy and convenience for use.

If you only have two or three persons in your family and you lived in a small apartment, like studio or 1 bedroom, I believe this machine will very suitable for your life!

"Fantastic washer!", I've had this little washer for a few months now and I couldn't be happier. I've never had any problems with water coming out, suds coming out, or unbalanced loads. It's simple to put together (if I can do it, believe me, anyone can!) and it's ready to go 15-20 minutes after you get it in the door.

It's pretty quiet; I can hear it in the next room but it's more of a hum than any kind of irritating noise. I don't have a dishwasher but I imagine it's no louder than that.

I have used regular detergent and HE detergent; either way it doesn't take much but I haven't had any problems with either, nor do I see any difference in how clean my clothes get.

Probably some other people have had problems because they're overloading the washer - you can fill it up almost to the top with clothes (loosely) on the "high" water level and it won't spill or become unbalanced.

I don't have enough good things to say about this washer; I cannot believe I spent so many hours over so many years spending so much money at laundromats! I'll never go back!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great mini washer for apartment", I read a lot of reviews from different sites about this product. There are some reviews saying it is hard to install so I didn't make my decision until this July. I got this machine from Amazon a few days ago. I read the instruction carefully before installed. The instruction and the product indicated how to place the plate correctly onto the bottom. This machine is perfect for 2 persons. The clothes dry easily because the spin is strong enough. The machine is not very noisy, and understand it should have some kind of sound when it washes or spin. I used the box which came with this machine to cover it because I don't want my apartment manager knows, and it help a little bit on the sound.
I lived at the 3rd floor and my apartment doesn't have laundry. It saved my life a lot.
At the beginning, I thought that it would deliver by UPS but it was not. I tracked the package everyday to make sure I have someone standby to receive the package because it is a heavy case, over 60 lbs., I didn't want it returned. When I tracked the package was arrived the city, the shipping company will call or email you to contact them to arrange the delivery, I was so happy with it.

"Lifesaver for apartment dweller!", I love this machine. I got it a few weeks ago and I have not been sorry. It's small and compact, I keep it in my small apt kitchen!. It's easy to move (I'm not strong). I save on laundry-there are 2 of us and I do all the light (in weight) items (4 loads/week) in the machine and send things like blankets and jeans to the laundry. But what a savings on my laundry bill! Not that it doesn't wash jeans or heavy items (I have washed them and they come out fine but I don't have the room to hang up so much laundry to dry).

If you have limited space, don't hesitate to get this washer. You won't be sorry!

"Amazing washing machine!", This is bar none the best washer! Everything is included to simply hook it to almost any kitchen type tap, You don't need to run to the hardware store for an adapter (there is a washer to remove if it the inside thread). Ok from some of the reviews I see people can't read an owners manual, or are talking about an older modle. Read the Owners Manual then assemble the bottom plate, put in the almost idiot proof lint filter (it says Top,on the top and bottom on the bottom which is soooo easy to clean, and you must clean it every time.) level the machine adjusting the feet (you will need a level, I got a magnetic plastic one for 99 cents from the hardward store), and your ready to wash clothes. It's QUIET!!! very Quiet. You should use the HE laundry soap. It will nicely and quietly wash a set of full sized cotton sheets, including the two pillow cases, I have washed two pairs of heavy Jeans in it. I do a wash every other day. The controlls are so easy, and check this out you loose power and machine remember were it was in the cycle you just press the start button it takes off where it left off. It dings when it's done but does so quietly,if you leave the top up after putting in the clothes and soap it dings at the start of the wash cycle, to remind you to put the cover down. I can't even think of any thing negative to comment on. OH and the stainless steel basket is a HUGE plus if you live with hard water. One of the BEST features is whe the clothes come out of the machine they are dryer then any full sized I have used! This is a wonderful product, some of the negative responces are from people that either try to overload it or put in too much soap. I have used regular soap, but using less than a 1/4 cap full. With the price of gas and the cost to go to the laundrymat, This machine will save you a lot of money in a short time. It's Quiet!, does a great job of washing clothes! If you fear your landlord might not like you using this, you take the box it comes in spraypaint it white make a nice cover to hide it under. Save the packing material and when you move it's covert moving into your next apartment..lol

"great little machine!", this little washer is excellent!
i checked reviews on several machines before buying this one. wanted the washer/dryer combo from thor, but there seem to be numerous mechanical problems. especially surprising considering the price. also looked at the little "wonder washer" mini portable washer and rejected it for the same reason. it's apparently cheaply made, doesn't work well and got more bad reviews than good.
the haier reviews made me a little nervous, too, until i noticed that all the bad ones said the same thing. it leaks if connections are not tight enough, it makes a horrible sound if the plate is put on upside down, and it mustn't be over-loaded or have too much detergent put in. all of this amounted to consumer error. i really needed the washer and decided to take a chance. it's one of the best decisions i ever made. the only problem i had was with installing the plate. as everyone has mentioned, the holes don't match and the screws are too large. i remedied this by very gently enlarging the holes on the bottom of the machine with an ice pick, being careful not to damage any working parts. got the machine running soon and i've been using it several times a week since it arrived two months ago.
one other thing. in reference to the metal plate being improperly installed, there were comments about instructions not being clear. something may have changed since those reviews were written because the instruction book i have is quite explicit, and the plate is clearly marked. the directions are actually pressed into the metal. there is no way i would have put it on wrong. either people were ignoring this or (more likely, i think)haier took note of the problem and did something about it.
anyway, if you're in need of a washer and short on space, do get one of these. it's well worth the money.
my sincere thanks to everone who wrote reviews, good and bad. you were all instrumental in helping me make this choice.

"Haier HLP21E portable washing machine", I live in a New York City apartment. Although there is a laundry room in our building there is nothing like having your own washer to do laundry at your own convenience. No waiting for the machine, no correct change/dollars, no wondering what was washed in the machine before your wash...in otherwords a real must have item.
This adapts to the kitchen sink faucet so easily. The drain hose never overflows the sink's capacity.
You can't wash many heavy items all at once. You do have to plan how you'll do laundry. I manage to get all my underwear, socks, t-shirts, night shirts (light items) all in one load. My bed sheets and pillow cases in another. Jeans, well, you have to be careful. I would recommend no more than four pairs at once, of course, I'm petite so a larger/taller person I would recommend no more than 2 pairs at once. Then the bath towels and I'm done!
I couldn't live without this machine now that I have it. It is a huge value for the money. Also, Haier is so easy to deal with regarding any service problems or questions.
I would recommend this machine, or a larger one if you have more space, to anyone living in a large city apartment building.
