"Toastess TJK-28W Electric Kettle Jug"
The electric kettle works well & fast. When it's not filled to capacity, the self turn-off takes a little longer (i.e. the water in the kettle boils longer before the kettle turns itself off). The lid does not open very easily.

"Kettle"
Kettle works ok, but I got what I paid for. It is not the same quality as say the T-Fal unit I have, but Toastess was cheaper. Not as easy to use as T-Fal because electrical connection is an offset rectangular block rather than a central round post, so there is only one position where kettle sits on base and makes the electrical connection. Biggest drawback is that the on/off switch only turns on, will not turn off manually, so I have to wait for kettle to boil and then turn off automatically. Not a big deal, just sometimes inconvenient.
All things considered, just an ok unit.

"Just what I was looking for"
After several trips abroad, and most recently a trip to England, I decided to shop for an electric kettle. This was the second one that I ordered, (the first was terrible,...sent it back!)and so far, after only a few months, I'm very happy with it. It heats up very quickly, and is very much like the ones I used while in the UK.

"This Toastess is everything is says it is and more!"

this is an excellent electric kettle. It's safety features are great and work as they should, giving one the sense of security other kettles have not. The water heats exceptionally quickly, shuts off the second it's reach the boiling point. The safety lid does not fall off as you're pouring the water. I bought this one for work, I shall be buying another for my home.

"Well kept secret"
These are seen throughout Europe and Canada, especially at bed and breakfasts, but Americans are unfamiliar with it. It's user friendly and heats water up extremely fast, no waiting around. I'm glad to have found this and now my daughter wants one too!

What our customer's say!

"A toast to Toastess.......", I specifically ordered this product because I can't find this brand in Hawaii. I bought this same brand before but a different and bigger style water kettle heater. I loved It! I've gone through a couple of water kettle heaters and Toastess is hard to beat. But it broke due to we accidently heated without water in it. So I found the same brand but smaller version on Amazon.com and we love it. It is so lightweight and heats water in an instant. The best feature on it is, if you turn it on without water in it...it will turn off automatically. I only wish it had a larger water capacity.

"fast boiling", I drink lots of tea, and after spending a couple weeks in Paris this summer in a friend's apartment, and using the electric kettle there, I decided I'd like one for my house back home. This Toastess model is big for making a cup of tea at a time (the one I used in Europe was much smaller) but I couldn't find one I liked in a smaller size, so I went ahead and got this one. It works like a champ; I fill it just to cover the element inside, so as to make my cup of tea. Boils very quickly, and I like the fact that the pitcher is plastic because it keeps it lightweight.

In reading other reviews of kettles I noticed that some people seem to take issue with an exposed heating element (ie you can see the heating coil on the inside of the pitcher). I'm not sure why this is considered a problem by some; the kettle I used in Europe had an exposed heating element, and this one does too, but I don't have a problem with that.

The fact that it shuts off automatically as soon as the water starts boiling is great, and I also appreciate the cordless pitcher.

I can see this kettle coming in handy during soup season, when sometimes I need to add a bit of hot water to a soup or stew that is cooking on the stove.

I am well pleased with this kettle and don't hesitate to recommend it.

"Great way to heat water quickly", My wife and I enjoy tea quite often, and this electric kettle works very well. Don't know how long it will last, so far we're very happy.

"toastess cordless electric kettle", This cordless electric kettle has turned out to be very practical in design, a pleasure to use, easy to keep clean, and boils water "bird speed". Definitely a good buy. j. price

"poor performance", I regret i decided to save $$ and bought this kettle.
Problems:
- the unit feels cheap
- the heating element is not concealed, as the description leads you to believe. Instead it is a big coil, and you must pour enough water to coat it every time.
- after a few month of use the top opens only with some straggle
- Autoshut off does not work. So many times i found red hot coil inside an empty unit, who know how much electricity this waists!

My grandfather used to say "I am not rich enough to buy cheap things", I'll try to remember it better next time.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Problems", I initially purchased this one, a plastic kettle, as that is what I'm used to in Hotel rooms when I travel, especially in Asia. The first one came cracked (the plastic on the bottom is very thin and appears to crack easily, even in transit in the box) and I returned it to Amazon and they sent me another one. The second one they sent didn't sit right on the base, and ended up not making electrical contact unless I held it down! So I returned that one and was not about to try for a third time. didn't want another plastic one, especially this model, and ordered a stainless steel one from Chef's Choice.

"Toastess TJK-28W", We didn't have the problem of smell others reported, and it's very fast and safe (at least so far).

"Returned it", Couldn't be more agreed with Tony T' review below. I purchased it last Christmas and when I open the package, the heating element was right there in front of my eyes, it is NOT CONCEALED. I thought it was just a defective one since the Amazon description clearly stated that it is "concealed". Amazon allowed me to return it for free. Now I realized that it was not the kettle that was defective, it was just an incorrect description. I am glad that I bought Braun kettle instead, for only $5 more it got top quality and a 360 rotatable base, much better.

"Good for the money", I bought this kettle for my grand mother, and she seems very happy with it. It is fast and has a good volume capacity.

"Unsatisfied and disappointed", I purchased the Toastess TJK-28W 1500-Watt on March, 11, 2007. Around 2 weeks ago, I started to notice that the heating element, which is asserted that "concealed stainless-steel heating element resists corrosion", is slightly peeling with mental-like small parcales.

I think the possible reason for the peeling of heating element is that the heating element is only coated with stainless steel.

I stop using it to boil my drinking water.
