"leak resolved"
thought the coffee pot was great until we found the water leaking from the back of the machine. emailed customer service. here is the response:

There is a small rubber tube that goes into the back of your coffee maker. Please carefully remove that rubber piece, by gently pulling it out of the back of the coffee maker.

Look very carefully at that rubber tube. There is a hole in the end that was inside the coffee maker.

That hole is supposed to be facing down. If you replace the tube, by carefully pushing it in, making sure
that the hole is facing down, it should correct the issue with it leaking.

Silly that we have to do this but I thought it might help some of you.

"Not a Dud... Lucky?"
I've owned this very same Mr. Coffee coffee pot and have had absolutely zero problems with leaking, burning coffee, defective hot plates, clocks stopping or turning black, etc etc. All it's ever done is make a good pot of coffee. Lucky? I don't know but I purchased this at Target about 3 years ago and it's still running great. I make sure to use the cleaning cycle with vinegar about every month or so.

If you use a grind that is too fine, there's a chance that this will overflow. This is true of any coffee maker that isn't made to deal with a very fine grind. Make sure you use a grind specifically used/rated for drip coffee pots. A medium to coarse grind is best and allows for the best water flow.

Pros:
1. Makes a good cup of coffee
2. Has an automatic mode that can be set using the clock timer.
3. Able to set the heating plate temperature. (I like to set this low to avoid burning coffee)
4. Cleaning mode: I use this every month. Keeps our coffee tasting fresh.
5. Able to pour while still brewing. Good if you have an impatient husband who can't wait for the entire pot to brew. ;) Don't remove the decanter for TOO long otherwise the water will build up in the basket and it WILL overflow.
6. Has brew strength buttons. For a stronger cup of coffee just hit the button until "Strong" lights up.
7. Easy to figure out and operate. Never even needed the manual.
8. It's modern and looks great on my counter.
9. Easy to clean. The filter basket can be removed and the water reservoir grating pulls out to remove any deposits if needed.

Cons:
1.Flip tops are a little inconvenient for both the water and the filter basket. The machine is tall enough as it is so if you want to fill this on your counter make sure you have ample space for it to open. If you have shallow counters this probably isn't a good idea if you have cabinets above them.
2. You have to make sure you pour your water into the reservoir in a slow steady stream otherwise you WILL get water all over your counter. While the area is fairly large, the grill prevents you from being able to just dump your water in.

All in all, I would recommend this coffee pot to anyone as the pros far outweigh the cons in my opinion. I'm pretty satisfied with it.

"Excellent Looks, Excellent Performance"
This machine has worked well for us. The only time it leaked was user error because I hadn't put the pot in correctly, and this only happened one time. The pot pours very well with no dripping, I typically pour a cup as soon as there is enough in the pot and the auto shut off works flawlessly. Have had this for over a year now and love it.

"Terrible coffee maker"
Mr. Coffee FTX21 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker

It broke and started leaking within a few short months of purchase. Also I couldn't get strongly brewed coffee out of it.
Don't buy it!

"Mr. Garbage"
This coffee maker is the pits. I received it as a gift, and loved it at first. I've had it 4 months, though, and already it is malfunctioning. (Yes, I clean it regularly to remove mineral deposits.) Coffee leaks all over the place when it brews, just like other users describe. It's still under warranty (I hope) so I'll see about getting it fixed or replaced, but once the warranty has expired I'm pitching this piece of junk and will never buy another Mr. Coffee product again.

What our customer's say!

"looks nice but leaks...", coffeemaker leaks...bought it for its looks(red) but it leaked and started to blister on body...trashed it. my friend bought me another one (identical red)... leaking again.... it has turned my beige grout lines brown now.

"Not all it is cracked up to be", We purchased this maker at Cosco around 5 months ago. Liked the machine, coffee was hot and tasted good. My wife was telling me she was finding water under the pot after a few months, not always but now and then. All the sudden a week ago wanted to make coffee and nothing happened. No power to the pot. Called Mr. Coffee and gave them required info and they sent a new one at no charge. My complaint is in the last few years we have gone through 4 Mr. Coffee pots. They may have been good at one time, but these China made pots are a waste of money. Anyone know of a good coffee pot that is actually made in USA or Europe. I am done with Chinese garbage. Will use a cheap percolator if need be.

"Quality Coffee Brewer (FTX33GTF -- not FTX25)", The FTX25 is the old version of this model.
Most of the negative reviews here are for that model.
What is out now is the FTX33GTF, and as a previous review points out, most of the flaws in the old design have been addressed. For the price, this coffee maker brews a great pot of coffee, looks good doing it and has some nice features as well.

The FTX33GTF is a 12 cup brewer, a must in my household. Most of the time we only brew about 8 cups though and it takes about 5-10 minutes. It has a beep alarm that can be turned on or off to let you know when the brewing is done and the adjustable warmer is a nice touch. I always keep the setting on "strong" so don't know how a "normal" cup of coffee from this brewer would be any different. I like having a timer, but normally end up cleaing the coffee maker before using it each mornign so I don't use that feature much. It is easy to clean and the carbon disc that filters the chlorine out of tap water is nice to have. If you use bottled or filtered water, you won't need them though.

Though not enough to keep me from recommending this appliance, there are a few niggles. The clock light is very bright and cannot be adjusted. The "coffee done" beep is loud and some find it annoying. You need to pour the water in fairly slowly so that it doesn't splatter and a lot of moisture is retained in the top layers of the machine. The Decanter that comes with the coffee maker seems rather cheap and flimsy, though mine has held up so far. The lid comes off a little too easily and water gets trapped between the glass and plastic part...leading to drips when pouring. It also leaks a little bit of water from the reservoir when it is filled, but not that much.

All in all, I am quite happy with this coffee maker. It is low maintenance, fairly easy to use and brews a good cup 'o joe. And in the end, that is the most important thing.

"Another leaker........", I've had this coffee maker for over a couple years (bought it for its good looks and the name). In the beginning it was fine. Then it started to leak out the bottom....sometimes water, sometimes coffee. When pulling it out to clean or fill I never knew which one I'd be wiping up. It still makes good coffee but I'm tired of the mess...especially for a $50 machine. I just might go back to a cheaper model (another brand).

"Joe DiMaggio Was Right About Mr. Coffee", February 12, 2008

My family has always owned a Mr. Coffee coffeemaker since the Yankee Clipper was their exclusive pitchman. The 12 cup programmable since it hit the market has always been an accurate and reliable unit, providing great tasting coffee on a consistent basis. One minor problem we have with our machine is that the right and left water level windows are somehow obscured, compelling us to measure the water input level with a measuring cup or the carafe itself, both methods creating a negligible amount of inconvenience. I notified Mr. Coffee customer service and while not agreeing to resolve this, I credit them with creating a file on the issue. This apparent defect notwithstanding, I still recommend Mr. Coffee as a preferred vendor of this class of coffeemaker.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Great looks and great coffee", I have had my Mr. Coffee coffeemaker for about 6 months now. It works as well as the day I opened it up. I make coffee almost everyday and have not had a problem. I like the fact that I can program it to brew in the morning before I get up. Also, the fact that I can set my own brew strength is a plus. The water filtration that came with it is also great. Buying replacements for that is easy, cheap and makes my coffee taste even better.

Thanks Mr. Coffee!

"Horrible coffee maker!", We have had this coffee maker for 1 year and 9 months. The first year it seemed to work fine and I loved the look. However, it has the leaking problem that other users have described. It is horrible. Coffee constantly is leaking onto the burner and then all onto the counter and staining my tile grout. I have resorted to keeping a paper towel under the coffee maker and then standing there while the coffee brews to wipe up the mess. It use to only happen once in awhile but now it is happening daily. Now it is time to shop for a new machine. Everything else was great with this machine before this started happening.

"Loud", It makes coffee ok. At the end there is a very loud beeping that will wake up others that are still sleeping. I can get around it by momentarily unplugging it at the end of the cycle. I'll probably take it apart to stick a fork in the beeper at some point.

"Bring it back before you use it!!!", This Coffe pot was very disappointing to me. I recieved it as a gift, it worked great the first time it was used. After that it was game on, it overflowed constantly, not to mention the fact that coffee and water ended up in the electronics part. The best use for this Mr. Coffee Coffee Pot is for target practice. I am surprised that no one has had a fire due to this pot or had a decent cup of coffee for that matter. Mr. Coffee, really needs to pull it off of the shelf.

"Fire Hazard!!", I purchased the 12-cup Mr. Coffeemaker even after reading all the reviews here. I solved the overflow problem out the back and could even live with a few drips of water on the counter due to the condensation on the interior of the lid. Loved the brew strength feature and the design of the carafe. However, what I simply WILL NOT live with is a fire hazard. Twice now, I've shut the machine off and either the warming plate didn't disengage itself or it came back on. I'm also old enough to remember that Mr. Coffee was the appliance that caused many a housefire and was under a huge recall in the mid 70s for just that reason.

Item will be returned and a different brand purchased!
