"SmartBrew coffeemaker"
The SmartBrew coffeemaker recently purchased is our second one. The first one lasted 8 years. The programming is simple and convenient. Care must always be taken to seat the caraffe on the heating surface so as to disable the "sneak a cup" feature during brewing.
Overall...a very good product for the cost.

"not happy!"
If the pot isn't put EXACTLY into the center of the place, ther is coffee everywhere. The plate actually has a thin rim that the carafe sit into. Forget about it if you are in a hurryQ

"Black & Decker coffee maker"
We have had many different brands of coffee makers, but this has got to be the best! Fills easily, the water guide is so helpful, it's easy to clean, and the on/off is very clear. Love the clock, too! This is a well-made coffee maker and doesn't look like it came from outer space!

"OK while it lasted..."
I bought this unit because of its great recommendation from a leading consumer magazine. The coffee it made was pretty good. After only 2 months, or about 60 pots of coffee in our household, the warmer plate became rusty and imparted that rust on the bottom of the carafe. Not a big deal, but not a pretty sight either. Then at six months the coffeemaker started making popping noises when brewing and the brew process began taking up to 30 minutes. Within a few days after that it just stopped working completely. This, in my opinion, is way too short a life for a product no matter what the price. Never again will I buy a Black & Decker. There's no reason an appliance like this should fail at 6 months when used 5 or 6 times a week. I've switched back to a coffeemaker by that German sounding company that I've had good luck with in the past.

"Clock Trouble"
This is the second Black and Decker coffee pot I've had. The first one had problems with the clock going out so I had to send it back. After receiving a new one it worked fine for a couple of years until the base started to leak. I just ordered a new one and this one has a screwed up clock again. The time does not stay set so you can't set the clock for automatic brewing which is why I bought it in the first place. I'm still waiting for my replacement coffee pot to arrive but I won't trust Black and Decker again.

What our customer's say!

"Look out below", Poured water into the container and it immediately ran out the bottom of the coffee maker all over the floor.......Returned

"Clock is Cuckoo - Coffee ok", The clock on this coffee maker is for the birds. Ability to keep time is random. Easy to set but it doesn't work. It brews coffee but good luck on having that done automatically. I purchased on recommendation of Consumer Reprorts and I am very disappointed.

"Great for pouring and could double as morning alarm clock.", I have been using this appliance for just under 2 months. I bought it based on the reviews I read about how you can pour a cup of coffee without spilling. That is accurate. It does a much better job of pouring than my previous Mr Coffee machine.
However, the lid on the pot is already breaking at the hinge; typical cheap plastic molded "C" that clicks in over a plastic bar, the ends of the "C" have bent and will soon be useless.
Also, this is the loudest coffee maker I have ever owned! It makes a lot of noise from the moment it starts brewing, which continues through out the time it sits on the warming plate. It sounds like it keeps trying to brew, making loud clicking noises and sucking dry air. For me, the constant noise is quite annoying.

If you could combine the decanter from this unit with everything else from my old Mr Coffee, you'd have the perfect coffee maker.

"Clock impossible to program.", The machine looks and works fine. But it's annoying that the clock is impossible to program. I thought it was on a 24-hour basis, but it switches back to 12:00 after 14:00. Unless you are using the timer for morning coffee, etc., I would buy the similar model which is a few dollars cheaper and doesn't feature a timer.

"Timer problem", The clock did not work - random numbers, such as 13 and 14 appeared. This meant one could not set it to begin automatically and the automatic timer did not work. This was bought online to save time which meant we did not have time to deal with repairs and did not realize there was a problem until the coffee pot was unpacked and used.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"SmartBrew SmartChoice", Love it for the price. It's really all you need. I debated on getting the fancier pot but glad I didn't. My only complaint is the time display is flat so you can't read it from across the room but who cares. It brews good hot coffee. I haven't had any problem w/ leaking like I saw in other reviews of this coffee maker.

"Sorry Consumer Report, wrong on this one", Consumer reports rated this coffee maker at the top. First of all going to this coffee maker from my other model you notice the coffee is not hot. After 3 monthhs the brains in this thing went nuts, shutting off when ever it decided. When I called to return there was a $7.50 charge to return the product. When the new one arrived it is lopsided and dont sit on the counter correctly. Gets very hot on bottom and not worth having a fire, you get what you pay for!!!! Sorry Balck and Decker I cant even sell it at garage sale because I dont want somebody's home to burn down!

"Do not buy", While the carafe is of excellent design and does not leak when coffee is poured the clock on the programmable maker does not work. I have bought 3 coffee makers in the last month and ALL three had/have defective clocks. All three have different manufactures date codes. By the time you pay for shipping going and coming under the warranty it becomes a very expensive coffee maker--and the clock still does not work!!

"Great Coffee Maker, Major Flaw", I purchased this Coffeemaker on the recommendation of quite a few "Coffee Experts" as one of the best low-cost makers around.

While I totally agree after a few weeks of use, there was one major flaw: The clock.

The clock WILL NOT keep time, it doesn't know how to cycle past 12PM, and after reading many other Amazon reviews, I'm not the only one. The minutes stay accurate, but it jumps all over the place on the hour.

As for the positive stuff, there are many other 5star reviews that go over it all, which I fully agree with.

I decided to return the product for a replacement, and Amazon was prompt with shipping the new maker. I received it the next day, only to have the same thing happen with the new one.

So, if you don't mind being unable to program and set the coffee maker to start on a timer, then I highly recommend the coffeemaker. However, if that's a selling point for you, I'd recommend you look into another one.

I'm keeping this replacement as I just don't want to deal with the whole exchange process again and can overlook the missing "feature."

"The best of the brewers", I seriously don't understand the negative reviews for this machine. I've owned much more expensive brands, but none have worked better, or lasted longer than this one. This has a very nice and wide water reservoir, and it's much easier to pour water into, than trying to pour it into a tiny opening, like the more expensive brands. It's much easier to clean than most too.

It keeps coffee hot and even has a safety feature of shutting off after a few hours. As far as shutting off automatically, this could either be a benefit, or an inconvenience. I could say that an auto shut off should always be a benefit, since you never know when an emergency may arise, and it's not always a thought to turn off things like this.
