"Good Value and just what I wanted"
I saw this pan in a local department store for $30 more thank the price. I ordered with resverations, who puts a broken pan on the sales page, and received it jsut fine. It was seasoned as promised and makes the best home fries Ihave had in years.

"Great."
Get your iron needs met by cooking in this HEAVY, huge skillet. Avoid burning grilled food by using the skillet on your grill, with grill cover down. Non-toxic.

"HEAVY & STURDY & SUPERB"
Nothing lightweight about this cast-iron skillet. I use it primarily for frying and it maintains the heat perfectly for large batches of fish or chicken. I was happy when it came and I realized how wide this was; it almost needs two burners. I also own the 12 inch skillet which is great. Pre-seasoning makes this brand my favorite. It's priced right and comes with free shipping from Amazon.

"NOT MADE THE SAME ANYMORE!!!"
I own over a dozen Lodge Cast item pieces that I've happily used for many years and recently purchased this one to add to my collection. Immediately, I noticed this pan seemed thinner and "cheaper" made, than in the past. On the first use, I noticed the pan bottom was warped upward in the center allowing oil and food to run to the edge. After 3-4 uses, I noticed the bottom center seemed to be deteriorating. After 5 uses, I noticed what seems to be a crack forming. Now it will be thrown away. I've NEVER had a problem with Lodge cast iron until now. Wasted money and very disappointed!

"Good value for the price..."
This is huge and so it's best used for cooking a great quantity of food. It IS unwieldy and must be carried or moved with both (protected) hands. While you do want to rinse and brush it while still warm, you must be careful not to put a too-hot pan in a sink not meant for overly hot iron.My sink is a beautiful black, stone composite, and so I often end up trying to balance the pan on something that I've set into the sink to be the other "hand" while I brush. One hand on the handle, one hand holds the brush...you really need to think about how you plan to choreograph this before you bring it to the sink. One small complaint: After 3 uses I've noticed a very small area near the handle that seems to have lost it's black 'finish'. It's silver underneath, which really surprises me, as I assumed it was black cast all throughout. Maybe it hit something, but geez, I was a little disappointed. I would recommend this pan, however.

What our customer's say!

"get ready to fry baby", If you like cast iron this bad boy is for you.Great for home or outdoor use. heats evenly and nothing sticks. you will reach for it over and over again.

"Bad batch?", I ordered this skillet from Amazon and, when it arrived, I noticed that a small area around the handle seemed to be peeling. I'm not sure what it is that was peeling, but there is some black coating on this skillet and it was coming off. I requested a replacement through the website - a process which could not have been more enjoyable - and a replacement arrived 2 days later.

Unfortunately, not only did the second skillet have the same problem, it was worse! The peeling area had already started to rust, which was exactly what I was worried about and what prompted me to return the first skillet.

At this point, I called Amazon and a very nice customer service rep simply issued a refund and suggested that I buy the item locally to ensure it is free of defects. I'm not sure whether this was simply a bad batch or if Lodge's quality is slipping. I hope it is not the latter. I can't review the performance of the skillet itself, since I haven't used it yet, but I wanted to share my experience, for better or worse.

"great quality cast iron skillet", Lodge makes the BEST quality cast iron cookware. I own several other brands of cast iron and this is the skillet I use the most. I would buy this item again, I give it a AAA+++.

"Fantastic Skillet, but....", note that this skillet is not made for the average sized stove--it's simply too big to get even heat distribution. It's perfect for use in the oven or the grill. Clean-up is easy with a stiff brush and hot water, just add a light layer of oil afterwards to keep rust away.
Also, this skillet is quite heavy, so be careful--especially when it's superhot and full of food. Fortunately there's a grip on the opposite side of the handle for more stability.
Overall it's a great skillet and if taken care of correctly, it'll last a lifetime.

"Really really big", You'll never have to fry anything in batches again. You had better take out a ruler and peruse just how large this pan is before purchasing. The pre-seasoning is excellent. Only problem I see is that the interior has a roughness. It's definitely stick resistant but the surface roughness makes cleaning with paper towels difficult because the pan picks up fibers from the towel.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Love Cast Iron Cooking", I love this pan, I just need a larger burner on my stove! I bought this pan to make large quantities of one of my Babci's recipes and found that I am using it more frequently than I originally thought. My husband poked fun at the size of it at first but he has also found it to be a great pan. Because of its size food doesn't fall over the sides so there is less mess to clean. The only drawbacks are the pan is very heavy so it is not good for someone who has difficulty lifting and it takes longer for the heat to radiate to the sides of pan. Most of the heat stays in the center but I put that blame on the size of my burner. I will never go back to using stainless steel pans after using Lodge cast iron. This pan is easy to clean and the food doesn't stick when cooking in it. I love it.

"Great skillet!", This skillet is a must have for those who need a pan with lots of surface space for even frying - the one drawback is that it is quite heavy (I need two hands to lift it!) but it is worth the extra effort to produce perfectly browned hash browns every time! The frying pan comes pre-seasoned, too!

"15 inch, not 15 1/4", Too often, a 12" skillet is just not quite big enough. This one is perfect for cooking for a family. It makes a good griddle, is non-stick and holds a lot of food. No more ever-so-careful stirring to avoid spilling over the edge. It does heat up a bit hotter directly above the heat source, so the heat distribution is not perfect. But that is the nature of cast iron. Overall it is a must-have pan and the one I always reach for first.

Kitchen Collection (website and store often found in outlet malls) makes a lid called the "Extra Large Multi Cover" that fits this pan perfectly and makes the pan even more versatile.

The skillet is rather heavy, but with the helper handle, it has not been a problem moving the thing around even when full of food. It is impossible to pick it up and pour anything out of, but then, there are no pour spout indentations.

As some reviewers have noted, the bottom appears pebbly, but that is a complete non-issue. The pre-seasoning is a start, but I just lightly washed it and then reseasoned it first thing. It has been entirely non-stick for everything from eggs, to green beans to meats since.

The pan's actual measurements are 15" across the top and 12" across the interior bottom. Despite the written description and the pan's label (and Amazon's title when I bought it) that state the pan to be 15 1/4", it is and is supposed to be 15". I even contacted Lodge about the discrepency and was told 15" is the proper measurement. I took away a star for the mislabeling.

"Cast iron fry pan", I ordered Dec. 9th for Christmas. It was to be the gift my husband has wanted for a long time. I received the pan in three mailing days. Due to other reviews of damaged/cracked pans, I opened right away. It was packed loosely amongst brown paper and moved quite a bit when I shook it. But, THANKFULLY, the pan was in excellent shape! I left out the 5th star rating because I want a lid for the pan. Selfish, I know. I appreciate the fast service and the quality I expected. Well Done!

"A Big Disappointment", I bought this because I own and enjoy several Lodge Items. Unfortunately, while heating this one up over a gas burner, I heard a loud pop and was horrified to see it had cracked in half. An email to customer service at Lodge resulted in zero response. Unimpressed with this pan as well as Lodge's lack of response.
