Others say...

"This sucks, really."
Like me, you might be thinking that this is the perfect solution to your problem and maybe, just maybe, it will work for you. I thought the same thing just praying that it would work.

No.

Its a great concept. The problem is that it just doesn't work. I sat with this thing the better part of 8 hours just tweaking and retweaking. According to my digital thermometer in that room I never gained more than 2 tenths of a degree.

One problem is that this is just a small fan that conveniently fits over your register. When you take warm air and run it through the fan...you guessed it, you are now blowing cool air.

Another problem is that its nearly impossible to sync to your furnace. It has one swith that you can adjust increment by increment so that it hopefully will turn on when your furnace does and turn off similarly. After 8 hours I came close. But there is still a solid 60 seconds after the furnace shuts off that the fan is still going. So rather then now turning warm air to cool it now blows COLD air...defeating the entire purpose.

I am going to do what I should have done to begin with and thats install an inline duct booster. The only problem I see with that is that they are all made by Suncourt and after this Register Booster debacle, I'm not sure I trust the Suncourt name.

"Works great with wood heat!"
I have a Charmaster furnace at my cabin. It burns propane or has a wood box. When burning wood, you need to manually turn the blower on the main furnace on(and off) to circulate the hot air in the plenum. Once the hot air is started the Register Booster will continue to "pull" heated air for as long as the plenum and ducts have hot air - can be for hours! It's much cheaper to run than the furnace blower and I can leave the EQ2 on when when I'm not around which you can't do with the furnace. I put the EQ2 in rooms with poor circulation and have even heat through out the cabin (the cabin is an older two story five bedroom structure). Definitely worth the investment in this situation.

"Luke Warm"
I purchased this item when we were having 110 degree F. air temp. in Arkansas and our A/C just couldn't cool our living room below 78 degrees F. The room has a cathedral ceiling and about 25 ft X 15 ft. Our general impression was that it helped somewhat - but did not make a remarkable difference. This could be b/c the heat was so extreme that nothing would have helped. Our A/C is practically new and works well, so I'm not inclined to blame it. I would predict that the smaller the room and probably one w/o a cathedral ceiling would be ideal for this product - it definitely brings the air up and out better. Also, if you live in an area with desert or tropical conditions where temps are extreme, you'll likely feel 'luke warm' about this Register Booster. For the money, I'd do it again. We'll continue to experiment with it - maybe putting it in different rooms to gauge it's effectiveness. But, I'd say that if you have a large area to cool (and you know you're A/C is working properly), you may wish to invest in a air flow booster that technicians place in your duct work.

"it works for me"
Based on the other reviews, it sounds as though the EQ2 works for some people and doesn't for others depending on their individual room and HVAC configurations. I have an upstairs room with a vaulted ceiling that is 10 degrees Fahrenheit hotter or colder than the rest of the house. The room is more than 200 sq. ft., has only one vent, and is the farthest from the blower. I've had my EQ2 now for 3 years and it is still working fine. The EQ2 brings the temperature difference down to about 4 degrees, which is livable. I tried out the AirFlow Breeze that has 2 DC fans in it but it didn't work as well as the EQ2.

"Works great when you know your problem"
Like everyone else I have a room that doesn't get the benefit of enough heat. Is is fed by a side duct off the main furnace duct - really a bad design because the heat on its way up three flights races past this duct and even a scoop doesn't cure the 5 degree deficit. I put this fan over one of the two outlets for this side duct, AND BLOCKED THE OTHER to prevent the fan from just pulling air from the other vent. It now has to pull from the furnace and the 5 degree difference disappeared. It is also on a thermostatic control.

What our customer's say!

"Waste of Money", Cons:
-First of all, it is too loud. You certainly do not want this in your bedroom.
-It does not look appealing at all. It looks like a huge brick on top of your register. I saw another product that is flushed on the floor, looks much better and yet even more expensive. (I can not review it as I do not own it).
-Cheap plastic and construction.
-The difference in temperature is almost negligible
-Expensive
-You need to have a power outlet close to your register

Pros:

"Solved Our Cooling Problem", Our master bedroom is on the top level of our house, two levels above the central A/C blower unit for that part of the house. Our master bedroom is also at the very end of the HVAC run, and has large windows that take up most of the east wall of the room. As a result of all of these factors, in the summer our master bedroom was about 5 - 10 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. We had tried everything we could think of to force more cold air up into the master bedroom, including shutting off the vents to the lower levels of the house. Nothing seemed to help in any noticable way.

Finally, I decided to try out the Suncourt Equalizer EQ2 register booster fan. I bought two, one for each register in our master bedroom. I do not bother with the automatic controls, so cannot speak for how well they work. I simply put them on manual mode and let them run constantly. The difference in the temperature of our master bedroom is amazing. During the hottest part of the day, it is now the same temperature as the rest of the upstairs rooms in our home (due to the open construction and high cathedral ceilings in the house, the upstairs rooms are almost always a couple of degrees warmer than the downstairs rooms), and in the morning the master bedroom is actually the coolest room in the house! The only downside is that the fans are not exactly quiet, but they're not so loud you don't get used to them pretty quickly, either.

All in all, this product worked as advertised, and better than I expected. I would certainly buy this product again.

"Worked until fan burned out", I used it for A/C in the summer, and it worked fine for about a year, then the fan burned out.

"It helps but don't expect miracles.", I have been using 3 units for many months. My upstairs temperature varies quite a bit from the main floor. I have 2 of these units in one room and one in another. The room used to be about 6-8 degrees different than the main floor. I am guessing it is now more like 3-5 off. That is in the winter. I haven't used them in the summer with the AC yet.

"Bought it based on a recommendation. Love it! Good Product", What a neat idea. Had a friend recommend it so I bought one to try and warm up my spare bedroom. Plug it in, turn the knob to set it, and it does a very good job. Keeps my bedroom about 5 degrees warmer than it was. I didn't really notice the fan noise, it just fades away for me. It's nice to run across products that work as advertised.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"p howell", This product does not do what it is advertised to do. I would never purchase again.

"A gem", I bought one three years ago, and it's beginning to suffer from heat prostration. No quibble with previous reviewers, but my heat source is an in-the-wall furnace with no blower. This jewel makes the house livable in about 30 minutes compared to several hours without it. For the right application, it is priceless.

Negative: They could have made the plastic a bit more heat resistant

"EQ2 Equalizer -- Register Booster", Yep, I gotta agree with the other reviewers that this is a waste of money. Great concept, poorly executed. It does turn on and off automatically, but that's it's only good point.

I have an upstairs bedroom that gets about 5-6 degrees warmer than the rest of the house. Warmer even than the adjacent bedroom. Put one of these over the vent, checked the temperature all day, and there was no difference. I think most computer fans are probably quieter and blow more air. All this seems to do is churn the air around a bit.

While I'm not a mechanical engineer, I think this product could have been designed better, without adding cost, and actually might have worked.

Save your money. If you have a vent that's not vlowing much air, try removing the grill. The grill restricts the airflow and removing it might be enough to help.

"Too Bad", I was all pumped when I saw this at Home Depot this weekend, as I have a room that is 6-7 degree lower or higher than the rest of the house. I went home and set it up and then set a thermometer in the room to monitor the change. The room stayed its usual 6-7 degrees even with the thing running over a 3 day period. Waste of time and money if you ask me. Great idea, but it does not work as promised.

"Not for Heating", This product might be good for air conditioning but it does not work for heating. I have two rooms on the north end of my house that are always cold. I closed 3 vents in other rooms and installed this booster and it didn't help at all. In fact, it may have made the room colder because it was blocking the air that normally comes out of the vent. The only reason I gave it two stars is because it arrived within 2 days, but now I am returning it.
