"Don't waste your money on this "
I thought I was getting a powerful window fan. For the price of this fan I could have gotten about 5 larger box fans from any major outlet store. It is not as powerful as my cheaper $18.00 box fan.

"Does it's job."
Not sure why one reviewer felt that this fan didn't work well as an exhaust fan, as it works very well as either a intake or exhaust fan. I'll put it this way, the smoke detector in my house hasn't gone of once since I bought this fan! It always used to go off the minute we would fry food on the stove. I'm simply impressed with it's power, as it moves a lot of air. Installation is a piece of cake if you own a screw gun, and might be a bit more work if you use a screwdriver to install it. Of course you can also just place it in the window, but this fan is quite big and awkward to move in the event you don't install it in a permanent location. I mounted mine on the inner side of the kitchen window frame at the top, this way I could close the window without moving the fan, and the bottom of the window wouldn't be obstructed if I wanted to look outside. That's it's permanent home.

I bought this fan because it did have a rating of 2,470 CFM. There are similar cheaper options of window fans on Amazon, but they don't list a CFM rating. Notably the Lasko. Lasko's site makes no mention of the term CFM either. There is also another version of the Air King 9600(more expensive) on Amazon that has a rating 3560 CFM, but the AIR KING site indicates that the top speed for the 9600 is 2470 CFM. Only the 9166 model has the 3560 CFM capability. Be careful when considering the other version of the 9600 as the specs appear to be listed incorrectly by Amazon.

The reason this fan didn't get 5 stars is because the fan is made from cheap plastic. I'm not sure how long this fan will last, at least it's casing. I'd definitely avoid moving it around if you could as the fan is heavy for the casing they put it in. I'm convinced the plastic frame will crack easily if the fan is picked up in a careless fashion. In my opinion, the price of this fan is high for the cheap parts used to make it.

Also, the noise this fan makes it very loud and it's just about impossible to silence the cheap rattling plastic casing on the high or medium settings. The low setting is the main setting I use and it does the job without loud airplane noises.

"Extremely poor qualtiy and poor service"
When I opened the box the first thing I noticed is the extrememly low quality plastic. One of the expandable screens was cracked at the edge - even though there was no damage to the external packaging. Then I discovered the expandable screens don't glide, they grate, and don't stay is place. And the winning discovery was that the fan doesn't operate - at all. No lights, no spinning blades, not even a hint of movement from the motor.
To top it off I was charged $20 in shipping, a $15 re-stocking fee and $20 to return a defective piece of merchandise. I would absolutely recommend buying your fan from somewhere else. Support a local store that cares about your return business.

"Needs improvement"
This baby moves the air both intake and exhaust. It is louder than anticipated (64db on high) which means you should put it at least 2 rooms from where you are. Vibrates on medium and high even when installed properly as the plastic rubs on plastic. For the price I expected somewhat higher quality. One part was damaged on delivery but did not affect operation so I let it ride. Good plug/cord placement and easy to use controls. Didn't feel it lived up to the made in USA label. Quality I would have expected from a "make it cheaply" Chinese import.

"Air King 9600"
The unit is extremely quiet and installation is extremely easy. I'd recommend this fan without hesitation.
