"Sunbeam Black 4 Slice Toaster"
Makes great bagels, but is a tricky machine. The toast and bagel settings are completely different. I still can't get toast to the right degree of doneness. The right and left pairs of slots don't toast the same, making it even harder to learn this toaster. Also, it is really dumb of Sunbeam to only make this in one color, black. This toaster is OK if you are patient and have a sense of humor.

"To Burn or Not to Burn the Toast"
When I first open the box, I realized this was a monster. When I placed it on my small counter area, I knew it was a monster. Giving it a couple of inches on the sides and back to keep it away from the walls and other counter top utensils and considering that I had to remove the clean out trays from the front, I lost a 14 X 16 inch chunk of valuable counter top. This was more than twice the space my previous four slot toaster had occupied, before someone did surgery with a butter knife on a broken piece of pound cake. Right from the start I found that I had to use a setting of 5 out of 7 just to get light toast - anything under 4 left one with just dried out bread and the slide seemed to move if one was breathing a bit heavy (no way to lock a desired setting.) OK, I could live with this, but after a couple of months the right side kept popping up and required resetting and manual control to prevent burning. Operation seemed the same to me for bagel or regular toast. I am currently searching for a replacement, when I find one, I will consign this Monster to the deep.

"Even and Consistent Toasting"
Sunbeam model 6278 is an excellent toasting device from the popular appliance maker. Several things make this toaster unique and one of them is the Bagel setting. By pushing this button, the chrome bread holders on the inside of each slot adjust themselves wider to accommodate the wider piece of food. There are two Bagel buttons (one for each pair of slots) and a small light glows when the button has been pressed. This option is good for more than just bagels. I also use it for hamburger buns and other things that are wider than a standard piece of bread.

The other buttons include a cancel button to stop the toasting process instantly and the light/dark levers to adjust and control the amount of time the toasting cycle runs, with settings that range from one (light) to seven (dark). Like with the Bagel button, there is one button or lever for each of pair of slots, giving this toaster the appearance of two identical toasters that have been joined together.

With the toasting process, I have noticed that this toaster is much better at delivering even toasting. With older toasters, the toasted areas of the bread were usually defined by dark vertical "stripes" on each slice of bread. These lines formed, of course, because of the location of the heating coils. Whatever part of the bread was facing directly across from the vertical heating coils would show the toasted marks. With this Sunbeam toaster, the bread is toasted much more evenly. There are some marks on the bread so I can't say it's perfect. But the toasting is much more even than with old toasters. I no longer see the vertical lines like before.

Cleanup is a breeze with this Sunbeam toaster. Crumb trays exist underneath each pair of slots and they pull straight out for easy cleaning. There is nothing to unfasten- you just pull them out and wipe them off. The top of the toaster features a non- stick surface so it is also very easy to clean. The fact that toasters usually accumulate nothing but dried crumbs makes them easy to clean in the first place. But Sunbeam has certainly helped the process with the trays and the non- stick surface. It's a huge improvement over the old days when people would unplug their toaster, turn it upside down, and shake out the crumbs.

Overall, Sunbeam Model 6278 is an excellent device for toasting bread, bagels, pastries, waffles, and other food items. It lets you control the process and toasts evenly and consistently. It costs a little more than the average toaster but the added cost is worth it for what you get.

I love this can opener. It matches the toaster that I purchased and it works great. It had some features that I didn't even notice it had when I ordered it, i.e., the knife sharpener and the bottle opener. I purchased it based on the product name brand and the looks, it matches my major appliances.
