"Very fast"
We've used this kettle for daily coffee brewing for a couple years, we love it: turn it on, grind the beans, prepare the filter, and the water is ready. It is fast, safe and has lasted. The kettle is separate from the heating element so you can take the kettle anywhere, just like you would a stove top kettle.

On the down side, the kettle lid has a tongue that covers the pouring spout, and it does not retract properly. It tends to pop back out when the lid is removed, making it difficult to replace the lid. So I fill the kettle through the spout. This worked well once I removed the filter screen in the spout (I'm not sure what it was for, anyhow).

Also, the brushed stainless finish is no longer beautiful---it lives by the stove and has grease spots even after the grease has been wiped away. But it has lived a hard life and still looks better than the yellowed-with-age white plastic version I had many years ago, and it has not accumulated ugly hard water stains.

Some folks have recommended the Breville kettle over this one. If you want your water boiled as fast as possible, however, the Krups is the better bet as it has 1750 watts of power while the Breville has only 1500 watts.

"electric tea kettle"
It works great and was a good value. I saw it a week later in an
outlet store for $20 more.

"poorly designed lid"
The lid was always difficult to get on. Now the lid is stuck & will not come off. I've used this pot for less than a year. I'll retrieve the Russell Hobbs pot that I used for 20 years prior to this one & put it back in use.

Like others have mentioned, the cord is very short. I've also had the auto shut-off not work a couple of times, so I never trusted that feature.

"Poorly made"
Works fine if you need a kettle that lasts a year and no more, the cheap "global" manufacturing (not German) has caused the spout opening mechanism to malfunction and I sometimes have to struggle for minutes before I can even get the ruddy thing open...buy at your own risk...The kettle is made in China.

"Excellent, hard-working Product!"
I bought this Krups kettle at Amazon.com over 3 years ago, and it is still functioning the same as the day I got it! I have used it every day, several times a day for the past 3 yrs. and I can't say enough about it. It is simply a workhorse!!! Never had any problems with the electrical components or water leakage anywhere or not heating correctly --- everything is working perfectly as day 1! Oh, I almost forgot --- this kettle has the most wattage available on the market today (1750 watts) and as such, heats up water to boiling (in full capacity) in about 3-4 minutes flat. I am extremely happy with my product and would HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who is contemplating purchasing it but hasn't yet. This product is absolutely phenomenal!!! I will purchase it again, if and when this kettle should one day fail me due to age, etc. and finally stop functioning.

What our customer's say!

"junk ... crappy junk", Nothing but trouble, faulty lid, faulty base ... I have spent two years tinkering, trying to keep it going but alas it has finally become the lame duck of tea kettles.

Our previous kettle T-fal lasted 3 times as long.

"Great design, poor quality", We have gone through three of these kettles in about four years. I like the design and the fact that it brings water to the boil much more quickly than any other kettle.

On the first one, the thermostat failed after a few months. Krups couldn't repair it and gave us a new kettle. On the replacement kettle, the switch (that's operated either manually or by the thermostat) failed after less than a year. Krups again gave us a new one. This third one had a broken lid after a few months. I bought a new lid earlier this year, which was available only in black, although the original one was white. It cost $20 including postage. Now this third kettle again has a broken thermostat and will not shut off automatically.

Overall, a very nicely designed product but very, very, very cheaply made.

"On / Off Switch Broke after 6 Months", I spent a good deal of money on this kettle, only to have the on / off toggle switch fail after six months. It's not easily accessible on the handle - so I am skeptical about it being repaired. I have not contacted Krups yet, but I feel like I have a $50 pencil can.

"Frustrating Design", Pros:
Heats very quickly
Cordless with convenient base station
Can be filled without removing the top

Cons:
Handle shape inconvenient to hold - pick up.
Too easy to touch hot areas by mistake when grasping handle
Somewhat complex top (cover) design that can be difficult to remove and
replace

I just received this pot and would probably not have chosen it as I think there is probably another one of equal or lower price that I now would have preferred. I bought in on line and don't have the energy to return it and try again. It heats water well, and I think I will like it well enough, but I definitely have mixed feelings. I plan to try to add some sort of insulation near the handle to reduce the frustration of touching hot areas when picking it up.

"Sick of junk", I purchased this kettle because it was stainless steel not plastic and, because of Krup's reputation for quality I was willing to spend more ---$70 vs $30. After only two and a half months of use it died. It simply would not function. I had to send it to a Krup's service center for repair. After one month it was replaced with a new unit [they were unable to repair the kettle] however I lost a month of my warranty time and it cost me $10 to ship it to the repair center. I complained to customer service about my warranty rights to no avail.

What ever happened to quality and reliability? I would certainly expect this item to last more than two and a half months! As far as I'm concerned this is just one more piece of Chinese junk! I would have been better off buying the inexpensive kettle.

Also, the lid on this kettle is extremely difficult to attach and remove. Although most of the kettle is made of stainless steel there are still some plastic components----why?

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Gets Really Hot!", I bought this to replace my beloved Phillips electric kettle that was simply wearing out and taking forever to heat. Granted, I had an incredible bias towards the Phillips and would have replaced it exactly if possible...Given that, the Krups does the job one purchases it to do. Caveats are that the stainless exterior gets extremely hot, so I would not want this near kids; it also has a lid that must be removed to fill the kettle, rather than one that can be lifted with one finger; Krups should work on that. It is a very attractive appliance.

"This item rusts!", This is great item, sure the outer shell gets hot, just don't touch it. My item still works great and I love it, but it has developed some rust on the sides of the spout where it meets the kettle.

I will not purchase a stainless steel kettle again, no matter what brand.

"great product", First, it isn't as green as it looks. Second, it works great and does exactly what it is supposed to do. My wife used to boil her water for her tea in the microwave but knowing how inneficient that is I bought this for her. She loves it as it boils water very quickly and shuts itself off when reaching the boiling point. So if she is in a different part of the house she doesn't have to worry about the water.

"Two years and going strong - buying another", My wife and I bought our first electric kettle (this one) shortly after discovering such a thing existed (OK, we're slow learners) during a trip overseas.

We have used this kettle at least twice daily since then, and it is still going strong. I'm online to buy a second for a vacation place right now, and see that I could have saved myself $10 if I bought it online rather than in a store - such is life.

Anyway, I love this thing. As expected, it heats water quickly - duh. I guess it is a comment on consumer goods in general when I say "I am pleased" that in our two years of ownership I have had no problems with it - no leaks, no problems with the bast power element, zippo. It just does what it is supposed to when I ask it to.

Without being rude, I'm not sure whether some of the negative reviews on this unit have been written by actual owners: I see several people criticizing its features, design, and potential for problems, but the same people don't clearly state if they actually own one and if they have HAD a problem. No worries one way or the other, but from personal experience, this was a good buy, and I'm about to put my money where my mouth is and do it again.

"Doesn't Last", The tea pot was great. That is while it lasted. I bought the Krups stainless steel pot because I wanted a good quality product that would last for years. It lasted one year, that is all. The switch in the pot is bad. A friend bought one at the same time, her kettle is the black style, after a year it is starting to leak.
A disposable item. For a year they are great but then they die.
