Others say...
"Great Idea and Great Value" I don't normally review kitchenware, but this covered, portable dish is such a great idea. I use this to take my lunch to work, and heat up everything from leftover roast and mashed potatoes to soup. I like a hot lunch, and this thing keeps me from buying out several times a week.

CorningWare French White 24-Ounce Round Dish
Why I buy this one ? - Glass and plastic lids make cooking, serving, and storing easy and convenient - Durable stoneware material designed for use in oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer - Corningware material resists chipping and cracking - Non-porous surface does not absorb food odors, flavors, or stains It's better to buy this one too...
Special offer for you..find the cheapest! What our customer's say! "Lid is difficult to remove: burning/scalding potential", The lids are EXTREMELY difficult to remove. I ordered a few of these lidded dishes because I like to cook chili and don't want to keep a large pot and the refrigerator tied up with leftovers. The box arrived, I opened it, inspected one dish, and immediately returned the shipment. The lids were so difficult to remove that I couldn't imagine being able to remove one fresh out of the microwave without spilling some of the contents and risking burns. I ordered a dozen of the Grab-Its, instead. Even though the now China-made Grab-It is being criticized for not being as good as the earlier US made version, the portion of the lid that fits over the handle provides an easy way to peel the lid off no matter how hot the contents. I almost gave the Round Dish a few star based on how they might work with cold contents, but even then the lids are so tight and awkward to remove that while burns may no longer be an issue, spillage still remains a potential problem. "Almost too useful.", It is annoyingly rare to find porcelain or glass containers like this, with lids that fit tightly enough to reliably not dribble liquids out of them when tipped. These pop-ins are the only products Corningware makes, for example, that have this quality. I have been using a set of these for about 10 years now, for taking lunches to work, and sometimes holding leftovers. The thick rims of the lids also help to provide a degree of cushioning. And they stack very nicely in the fridge. I don't want to be microwaving meals in all-plastic containers, partly due to the possibility of trace amounts of plastic breaking down into its component monomers, and leaching into the food. More practically, things like spaghetti sauce get super-heated at tiny points, scarring and staining the plastic permanently. The ceramic dishes of these Pop-ins certainly don't have those problems. The lids can get stained, but the stain does fade to a degree, over time w/ repeated use and washing. And since the lid is above the food, the incidence of staining is lessened. But after 10 years, my lids are truly worn out -- they reek of stale oil, and have become brittle. The ceramic portions are fine. And now I am finding the main negative: the lids seem to be totally unavailable for purchase by themselves. In the past I have been able to buy replacements for the ceramic portions at a local Conringware outlet store. But I have never seen these lids for sale there, or anywhere; I would have to purchase an entirely new lid+container if I want to replace the lid. It seems that Corningware knows that this product is so good, and unique, that people will grudgingly buy the entire thing just to get a new lid. "Love the little casserole. . .", ...hate the lid! Okay, the tight fitting lid is great for freezing food, but twice now I have scalded myself while struggling to remove it after taking the casserole from the microwave. I open the vent, as instructed, before microwaving. Yesterday I heated Italian vegetable soup and I now have a permanently splotchy red stained lid. I own an entire set of French White with clear glass lids for cooking and flat plastic lids for refrigerator or freezer storage, and they are great. If CorningWare made a glass lid for this little casserole, I'd order 3 more because of the perfect size for small dishes. "love this storage container!", it's a great size for storing ~2 servings of leftovers, it also greatly reduces the amount of saran wrap i now have to use by using this container plus the actual container is oven/microwave/dishwasher safe...and since it's not plastic doesn't leach out any of those bad compounds which is great! "Correlle Ware", Great product for storing food in the refrigerator and heating in the microwave in one container ![]()
