CorningWare Corelle Coordinates 4-Piece Casserole Bake and Serve Set, Cafe Black
Why I buy this one ? - Large handles and rims allow for easy, safe handling - Casseroles and serving bowls nest for easy, convenient storage - Durable stoneware material designed for use in oven, microwave, refrigerator, and freezer - Designs coordinate with best selling Corelle dinnerware patterns for a beautiful table setting What our customer's say! "Super Heavy", Nice looking, but super heavy. Hard to get out of oven and over range microwave because of weight. Even the lids are heavy. "Handsome set but way heavy", My set arrived safely and quick, and a good deal on the super saver shipping in the past year. Was $24.95 then but made up for the $25 to get the free shipping by ordering another item. 12 lbs wow would have been high shipping. So don't plan to return it considering return costs. I too was amazed at the scant packaging, no protection and could hardly pull it out of the carton with both hands holding the carton with my feet, still didn't crack or chip it, a miracle. Gave a cheapo impression and couldn't believe it got here in one piece like that. 4 pieces I mean. Better you pay postage and they pay for adequate boxes and packing. I was going to order the matching bowls later until I saw how heavy these are for a small older person. I thought they would be like traditional Corning Ware, but very thick heavy stoneware and unlike Corelle dinnerware being so lightweight. Someone gave me some plain Corelle plates and boy do they get hotter in the microwave than normal dishes but feather weight. I must have no sense of size, quarts, liters etc because I thought I was upgrading an old Corning ware casserole but 2 1/2 qt looked like a HUGE Dutch oven to me, I never cook for that many people and have been trying to give it away. No storage space and never used it. I have a glass one as big I never use either but maybe to brown meat stovetop and do a stew, can't use these like that. Have to brown your meat and onions in a skillet then dump contents into this dish to bake or nuke. The smaller one is what I would call medium or large for me, and I've used it a few times for 4 large pieces of chicken or a small stew. It feels like it would be very breakable or chip easily so I tend to put bubble wrap around it to not chip the rim or lid in the cupboard. I am rather clumsy. I usually grab my old Corning one as this feels like too much work just getting it out, washing and storing it back on a shelf. Too bad one can't buy these separately for those who have small needs, the weight is a consideration if you have arthritis or feeble or have to lift it to an upper shelf or bend down to pick one up and that's when empty. My only other complaint is how hot it gets, black inside must absorb more heat, so you must use thick hot pads or oven mitts to take out of the micro, don't just wrap a towel around it to get it out of the microwave. That's when I'm afraid I'll drop it with the awkward hand protection. Nice to have the handles tho which was a plus for making a choice. So for one person I found a one and a half is sufficient for daily needs. In fact my old Corning is marked 1 3/4 but I swear this "smaller" size is much much bigger in overall size. Maybe just because it is thicker. All in all it is quite handsome for serving too, just be aware it is stoneware, not the same substance as the matching dinnerware I don't think. I don't believe it is meant for stovetop either like the old Corning is. Why they have to reinvent the wheel is beyond me. If you cook big portions and wear gloves in the kitchen and on the hefty side with strong hands and grip go for it. Pretty elegant in its classic black and white. And price is certainly fair for 2 casseroles if you can use them both. Oh, and if you don't mind chasing water spots on the black lid. A bit more work there shining it back up. "obviously not durable enough", Never got a chance to use this bake & serve set. The first time I ordered it was received smashed into many pieces. The packaging was barely there for a glass product. Amazon was nice enough to send me another replacement immediately. Although the shipping packaging was better, part of it arrived broken again. If this product can't handle even being shipped, how long will it last in the kitchen? I have sinced asked for my money back. Too heavy to keep returning damaged goods to the post office. "Sturdy, durable, smoothe", These are very nice and handle at least 375 degrees in the oven. They clean-up very nicely with dishwashig soep, the dishwasher, or use some Barkeeper's Friend on them. I am very pleased. they arrive in very good shape. ![]()
