I use these for microwave cooking various pasta dishes like the Lipton sides. They can be used to cook, serve and then store the leftovers. I got these after I read an article on health risks of microwave cooking in plastic containers and have been completely satisfied.

This bowl gets alot of use more than one might think. Mixing large batches of cookies, making any salad even fruit salad, popcorn. I've cut up whole watermelon and store it in this bowl. Absolutely a must when it comes to gatherings. It is endless to what you could use this size for. I bought it mainly to put the watermelon in it but I'm finding that I grab this bowl more frequently than I had anticipated. It is a good quality bowl. Not as heavy as one would think but it does have weight which I considered to be a plus. It is easy to grab and hold as the shape is wide. You can easily carry this bowl anywhere. I love that it comes with a cover. The design on the outside of the bowl are ridges that is very attractive to the eye. I highly recommend this bowl.

I've had my 4 1/2-quart pyrex bowl for a few years now and I really enjoy it. It's great for mixing up larger batches of things like cookie dough, salads, or snacks, such as trail mix or cereal bars. Being microwave safe, you can soften or melt your ingredients without difficulty and avoid the use of multiple pans or bowls. Another advantage of Pyrex is that you don't have to worry about it staining or retaining strong flavors. This bowl is also attractive enough for serving, with a nice plus, a convenient, secure lid for transporting or storing the contents while keeping them fresh.

The only thing some might consider a drawback is the weight, but this can also be an asset in my mind, as it is more stable when stirring stiffer mixtures than lighter plastics or metals.
