Others say...

"Do not hold up over time!!"
My husband and I registered for these dishes for our wedding. We used them for about six months before they started to chip. Since then, they have chipped like crazy and several pieces have broken. we are not particularly rough with the dishes. We have glued lots of chipped pieces back into the bowls, plates, coffee mugs and canisters. Several pieces have been too small to glue back in. They also take up a lot of room in the cabinets. Also, the canisters have this plastic ring that seals, but it pops off every time you open the canisters. To make things worse, it pops and sends a puff of air out which spreads flour all over the counter. We've had them for two and a half years and I am replacing them now.

I would not buy these again and do not recommend them.

"They chip very easily!"
I have this set in black. I really like the look of this set, and I especially like the shape and size of the bowls and the mugs. The dinner plates are ridiculously huge, however, and while they'd be great for Thanksgiving dinner, everyday meals look silly on such a huge plate with all that empty space.

Anyway, my husband bought 2 sets for me for Christmas in 2007, and as of 2 months ago, they started chipping. At this point, the set is little over 6 months old, and more than half of the two sets are chipped. I had replaced a Pfaltzgraff set that had lasted 6 years without a chip, and these couldn't make it six months. I am extremely disappointed, and am now looking for a new set of dishes. There goes one hundred and twenty dollars in the trash.

"Great for a little while - then terrible!"
I received a complete set of the Sango Nova Brown dishware as a wedding present three years ago. Our first couple of years with the product were great, but year three I have lost numerous plates & mugs to breaking. I think the first thing was the plate that just split down the middle while I was hand-washing it! I don't know if heat has something to do with the issue, but I've had two mug handles just snap off during the course of normal use. Actually after the most recent incident I had to take a trip to the urgent care to make sure I didn't need stitches after the mug broke in my hands and I got cut.

So, not only does this product not stand the test of time, it can also be quite dangerous! Even if this hadn't happened I was going to buy new dinnerware since I was running low on everything (owing to breakage!), but now it absolutely won't be another Sango product.

If you're only going to keep your dishes for 2 years then go for it! Otherwise, beware.

"Not durable for everyday use"
We bought these dishes in the blue and green colors; a set of 4 in each color. Of that original 8 place setting, we have 3 dinner plates, 2 salad plates, and 2 bowls left. There are several chips and cracks in the remaining pieces to let us know that the total will dwindle further soon. The dishes are very pretty, but are not durable and do not stand up to routine everyday use. Although they are marked as dishwasher and microwave safe, the dishes have broken apart in both. A couple of times the dish broke while in a hand after removing it from the microwave. They are also HOT after a minuter or two in the microwave. I have to use oven mitts when removing them from a heat source. They do not stand up for use outside of microwaving. Bowls and plates have chipped when tapped - even gently - against any hard surface; sometimes stacking them in the cabinet caused them to chip.

We bought a new set of dishes this weekend. After our experience with this set, my husband wanted to find dishes sold by item rather than the set. There are good deals out there and much more durable than these dishes!

"Looks good, lasts little"
It looks nice, but within a year the plates started cracking in the middle and two of them broke in half in the microwave. They also chip easily. Not recommended.

What our customer's say!

"In shock...", I like one of the other reviewers am shocked to hear of the complications some buyers have had. I do admit the dishes put out in 2003 are a little more fragile than more recent ones (2005-on). I tend to be a klutz and have hit the dishes on counters, sinks, each other and have not had any problems with breakage or chips. When I moved I unpacked my ice cream bowls and 12 place settings out on the table. The table was bumped very hard and all of the dishes came crashing down to the floor. I only lost eight pieces. I have had my set going on six years now and have not had a problem with them. I have used them in the microwave and dishwasher. I own almost the complete set of Nova Blue except the bake ware, pitcher and dipping set. A friend of mine also owns the set and has not had problems either.

"Am I satisfied with my dishes?", Sango Nova Brown 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4
You better believe that I am very happy with my dishes! At first, I was a little anxious about breakage. I had ordered two sets. Received one box with the dishes in perfect condition. Few days later, the other in perfect condition! I'm very pleased with the service and care that Amazon gaved me with this order and past orders. I highly recommend Amazon.

"Good Set of Plates", They are wonderful all purpose plates. I love them for what they are, I made sure I got extra copies for breakage and staining. Enjoy

"Surprised at bad reviews", When I was searching for something else here on Amazon, I stumbled across our Sango Nova dinnerware sets and was shocked at all the bad reviews. We have had these plates/bowls/mugs since 2003 (possibly 04) and have NEVER had a problem with them (ok, I probably just jinxed myself). The only two plates that have chipped are the two that we dropped on the tile floor! They, of course, broke. We, also, use them in the microwave all the time. I suppose they do get a bit hotter than they should in the micro, but we just make sure our hands are protected when we remove them (as you should when removing anything hot, anyway!). They look just as nice now as the day we bought them. 4 years perfect use, no complaints here.

"Striking appearance, great for us", I received three of the 16-piece sets as a wedding gift. We registered for the sets, and have been very pleased. The plates are large and heavy, bowls fit soup, cereal, etc. nicely without spilling, and I love the available completer pieces. However, I can see how people might have a problem with them chipping. I received the canister set as well, and one of the pieces was chipped inside the box. I took it back to Younkers where I got them, and it was replaced, no questions asked. We love the set, and are very happy with it. Some place settings have shallow bowls that are not good for soup, and these are deep and wide. They look great on a table, and I'll be buying the extra's like the lasagna pan, etc. to make everything match.

"durable", I bought a complete set in 2001. We got granite countertops last summer and I thought for sure I would break some plates getting use to the hard suface but even with some pretty good whacks I have not broken one piece. We always use the dishes in the microwave and dishwasher. This is a great durable and good looking set for the price!
****The new dinnerware has been updated and no longer matches my dinnerware purchased in '01; everything is larger and the color is much darker. Bummer, would still recommend dinnerware but will have to replace all dishes for a true match.****

"Not Microwave Safe", We got this dinnerware set in brown for our wedding gift four years ago. I noticed right away that the dishes got incredibly hot in the microwave but we just put up with it. We had to use pot holders every time we got the dishes out of the microwave and one hot plate actually damaged our dining room table, taking the finish off! But we still put up with it, just using the pot holders under the dish when we'd pull one out of the microwave and place it on the table.
Well, last week we had a small plate break in half in the microwave. We only had it in there for about a minute and BANG! And yesterday while I was microwaving, I heard a terrible noise, went in to check and one of our plates had exploded into a thousand razor sharp pieces in there. Can you imagine if you were carrying the plate when it exploded like that???
I'm scared to use any of the Sango set in the microwave now and am seriously considering buying a new set, NOT Sango.

To sum it up, this set is beautiful and might be good if you don't ever plan to microwave with it. It does seem to chip fairly easily. And they definitely should not be advertising them as microwave safe! Someone is going to get seriously injured with these plates!

"Terrible Dinnerware-DO NOT BUY!!!", These plates are beautiful to look at, but a big waste of money. Like other reviewers, I have had the problem with my dinner plates cracking down the middle slowly, until one day you open the dishwasher and you have two pieces of plate sitting there. I do not have time to hand wash dishes! These should stand up to normal dishwasher heat settings, but they do not! Mine have also got terrible scratches from the fork tines on the plates and the spoons in the cereal bowls. The finish seems to be wearing off! My Oneida silverware has never scratched my finest china, so it's not the utensils! Lastly, the plates are not symmetrical. Sitting on the shelf, they don't sit nicely on top of one another, but instead sit unevenly (like wobbly pieces of furniture you'd need to stick a matchbook under). The only reason they get even one star is that the customer service department sent another 8 piece dinnerplate set free of charge, but those have slowly started breaking too. You can't replace junk with more free junk!!

"Not long lasting", We registered for this set in brown for our wedding five years ago. We received eight place settings. I only have three dinner plates left as whenever they get to near heat (just sitting on the counter near the stove while it's on is enough) they start to crack. I have had handles come off the mugs, my bowls are chipped. It's crazy. I don't use them in the microwave and we haven't had a dishwasher until just last month. What I think is more disappointing is that you can not buy the pieces individually, only in sets. I got lucky once at a annual clearance sale at a store that was selling pieces from broken sets separately. Only get these if you just need dishes for a little while until you can afford the ones you really want.

"lovely set of dinnerware", This set of dinnerware is the first I've purchased on my own, usually this sort of thing arrives as a gift. I picked it out from the pictures and online description and am completely satisfied. The colors are lovely and rich, almost earthy tones. I'd recommend this set to anyone who likes these colors and shapes on their table.
