"Mostly happy, but not thrilled with inconsistent product & price"
I paid $133 for the 1st of these that I bought, and was very satisfied with the purchase, so I looked into getting another one. I put off my search because within the 2 weeks since my 1st purchase the price had gone over $150. The price came down again to $142, and I really needed the 2nd one so I bought it. Once assembled, it looked fine, but this one was not delivered in good shape as the 1st one was. There were scratches in the surface veneer(looks like it is paper wood?), and a number of the particle board pieces were chipped. Nothing really major worth sending back because of the weight, and not overly visible once everything was assembled, but not as happy with the second, MORE EXPENSIVE, item because of its condition. Assembly was fairly simple, just take your time, follow the directions, and don't try to do this in cramped quarters. 1st purchase was a 5 star for price and quality, 2nd was a 3 star, average it out to a 4 star overall.

"GREAT PIECE OF CD FURNITURE"
IT TOOK 3 OF US ALL OF A DAY TO PUT TOGETHER AND INSTALL. THIS IS WAY BETTER THAN THE $40.00 PUT TOGETHERS YOU FIND IN BEST BUY AND CD MUSIC STORES! NOT ONLY DID EVERY SINGLE CD AND CD BOXED SET FIT IN THIS CABINET BUT THERE WAS ROOM FOR BOOKS, JEWELRY BOXES AND OTHER KNICK KNACKS IN MY ROOM. THE SHELVES ARE FOR THE MOST PART ADJUSTABLE AND CAN BE MADE SMALL ENOUGH FOR KNICK KNACKS. IT LOOKS GREAT AGAINST A TELEVISION SET AND MAKES A NICE "SCONCE" AGAINST A 72 INCH BOOK CASE. EVERYONE WHO LOVES MUSIC AS MUCH AS I DO NEEDS ONE OF THESE. YES IT IS PRICEY BUT WELL WORTH IT!!!!!

"Great value for the capacity."
This shelf is quite worth the price if you are looking for a high-volume storage solution on a budget. Don't expect the world's greatest shelving unit, and if you can afford a high-quality unit in the three to seven hundred dollar range, you should go with that. But if you are an individual who, such as myself, allocates most of your personal spending budget on multimedia, and need an affordable way to keep it all together, then do not hesitate on the Oskar shelf. I've owned one for my CDs for nearly a year now, and it's been such a useful setup that I recently purchased a second Oskar unit for my DVDs, as they've outgrown my older case.

"Organized...."
Neat and clean looking cabinet....had to purchase another one for our collection....easily put together, has enough shelves and able to vary shelve placement.....glad we purchased these....

"Multi Media storage cabinets"
The storage units serve their purpose BUT for what we paid, the contruction isn't that good. we had to be real careful when we moved them they bowed in th middle. as long as they stay put they are ok and look nice.

What our customer's say!

"Excellent purchase", This is a great product. I was very pleased with the purchase. It suited my needs just right. It takes up less room with more storage than the last shelf I had in the same place.

"Worth every penny!", I just bought this cabinet here in Amazon Prime and it only took me two hours to assemble all by myself. It is easy to assemble as it comes with an easy to follow instruction sheet. The cabinet does satisfy my DVD/HDDVD/BD needs. I just need another one so I can consolidate my racks in to two of these cabinets. It is definitely a space saver. I do have almost a thousand DVD/HDDVD/BDs (and growing) and this cabinet does the job. I cannot wait for my second one to arrive. I highly recommend this item for those of you who have a huge collection of DVDs or CDs.

UPDATE (08/09/08):

Per my previous review of this item, I have bought and assembled a second one of this cabinet two days ago and now all my 900+ (and still groing) DVD/HDDVD/BD collection still has a 2-1/2 shelves to fill. Soon I'll be needing a third one to combo my CDs and future HD/DVD media collection. This consolidates two Atlantic Penguins, two Atlantic Elfs and two Atlantic slim DVD towers. This cabinet, as I have already mentioned, is worth every penny. A must for hardcore movie collectors.

Now I just have to disassemble the Penguins, Elfs and slim towers to put away in storage, just in case I ever need those again. You cannot go wrong with Atlantic products. I've been using them for 10 years and counting and never had any issues with them. So far, this Oskar has been a true space-saver for me.

"If I hadn't bought all those CD's I'd be able to afford real furniture.", Yes, that's the ironic thought that popped into my head as I finished building this massive monolithic altar to twenty years of misallocated cash. Here I am putting together furniture that could just have well been presto logs that I paid a little over a hundred dollars for in order to hold a collection of 1080 CD's which if bought new at $12.00 each would be almost $13,000 or enough to fill the entire room where this thing now resides with fine furniture made of real wood, with a real finish of real varnish, etc.

Anyway, it took my wife and I about two hours to put this CD shelf together. It wasn't difficult; there are just a lot of shelves and things that need to be put together with a piece of furniture this size. (I really would like to see someone put this together in fifteen minutes!)

There are a couple of "gotchas" that the instructions don't tell you about. First, the eight screws that go in from the bottom don't screw in flush with the wood; they stick out. Bad news if you're not putting this on top of a carpet. I had to improvise a bit (with a large drill bit, as a matter of fact) and take off just a bit of the sawdust, er, wood at each screwhole so that bottom screws would screw in all the way and the bottom would be flat.

Second, there's the nailing on of the back piece where you flip the unit over with it not laying flat on the floor and start pounding nails. As at least one other reviewer has pointed out, this is a great way to break the middle shelf. Thankfully I saw this coming and put some books under the middle shelves befor I nailed on the back pieces.

And now that it's completed I can't wait to gather up all the CDs from where they're squirreled away and put them on this storage cabinet. I'll have them all in one place, and they'll cover up all the obvious clues that this is a really cheap piece of furniture.

Well, I got what I paid for, and for sheer clutterbusting alone it's a pretty good deal. So far so good.

"Media Storage", I love my storage cabinet. One board, the top one, did not have the proper holes to build the shelves as they should have been built, but since it was on top and we did not want to wait for another one, we simply nailed it on. Except for that problem I found the product as advertised and fairly easy to build.

"I can buy more dvds", I was running out of room for all my dvds and wanted somewhere to put them that looked halfway decent and didn't take up too much room. I did some research and this looked like it would do the trick. When I ordered it came in 2 days with free shipping. My daughter put it together for me and it didn't take too long. It was alot easier than another rack I had before. The only bad thing was that it is so heavy. But that can be a good thing too. I don't think I have to worry about it falling apart. Also don't find out the hard way like my daughter did. Read the whole directions through before you start. They back track alittle so it is easy to put together upside down or backwards. As long as you pre read the directions you should be fine. Now I can fit many more movies in my rack.

"Great storage for DVDs and/or CDs", I have bought three of these puppies, one for DVDs and two for CDs and they give you the maximum storage with the minimum space for a reasonable cost. Takes about 40 min to assemble.

"Great Storage for DVD, CD, VHS, & Video Games", I own a slightly smaller version of this cabinet. We found it easy to assemble, sturdy, & of great quality. The shelves are all able to be individually placed at a variety of heights except for the on in the middle of the cabinet; this shelf & the verticle supports stabalize the cabiner. The cabinet is the perfect depth for CDs & DVDs as well as VHS tapes (including the ones in in the big plastic cases, like the Disney ones). While this look may not fit in with some decor, this cabinet is quite versitle & is a great storage solution, especially if you have several different types of media you want to store on one location.

"Mr. Organized", This storage cabinet arrived well-packed in a heavy box. It went together in 15 minutes quite easily. Since the base extends out further than the rest, I would suggest laying the unit flat across a workbench or table with the lip hanging over so you can easily nail the 2 backing pieces on. Started with 2 and am sure I'll be adding more.

"Oskar Multimedia Wood Storage Cabinet", These storage cabniets are attractive, versatile and very easy to build. The compact design provides maximun storage without taking up a lot of space. I use mine (six of them so far) for dvd's, vhs tapes, and books.
Amazon partner Ritz Camera has the best price online and offers free shipping if you order two units.

"Atlantic Oskar Multimedia Storage Unit", This high capacity DVD/CD-ROM unit is well-suited to your personal library. It assembles easily and fits well into any decor! Particle board shelves have a maple veneer that matched my library's requirements.
