"Cast iron rocks!!" I've been slowly and methodically accumulating high $, big-name cookware through Amazon. I recently saw a Food Network program which featured a cast iron recipe and I was intrigued. I ordered this item because you get a skillet, dutch oven and deep skillet all in one purchase. I also bought a few cast iron recipe books. WOW.... I didn't realize what I'd been missing. The food is great, the clean-up is easy and the stuff wears like.... well, like cast iron!!! It's nice not to have to baby this stuff. I've resurrected a few of my old metal spatulas and the cast iron couldn't care less. This is a great combo purchase but be prepared to buy a larger dutch oven and skillet later on to round out your set. All my purchases have been the LODGE brand and I'm very happy with them. Ready to use right out of the box!! Buy this... you won't be sorry "4-In-1 Combo Cooker" This is the new version of a time-honored dutch oven. I think that I like the old style better but the jury is still out on this new style. Besides, the old style is no longer available. I love the combo cooker overall because of its convenience and the fact that it now comes pre-seasoned. I use it practically everyday for everything from fried potatoes to corn bread, all on the stove top. It saves from heating the oven. To be frank, these cast iron dutch ovens are the best cooking utensils ever devised once one learns how to keep the cure on them. Why people don't use them more is beyond me. "Good cookware" This is a very good product for cooking in the oven. The cleanup is easy too. I really enjoy cooking with it. "cast iron " Thanks to COOKS magazine (sept/oct 2007) we wanted to try some cast iron cookware... I purchased several pieces from Lodge...and gave them as Christmas presents. They were all pre-seasoned...and we have been having a blast trying recipes especially written for cast iron.. I believe most (if not all) Lodge cast iron cookware is pre-seasoned thus eliminating a time consuming process..The cookware IS heavy and with proper care, should last several lifetimes. I will definately be purchasing many more items from Lodge "Make this your first cast iron purchase" Simply put, this is the best-designed piece of cookware you will ever use. Chicken fryer, dutch oven, skillet... use your imagination. The 'bottom' half is an excellent deep sauce pan in which you can make a decent sized batch of spaghetti sauce or chili, the 'top' half is a perfectly proportioned skillet. The sides are high enough and have a slight curve so that you can use it as a saute pan and low enough to serve as a griddle. I only have a small hot-plate in my apartment and I use this combo as a stove-top oven. Skillet-side down, it makes great baked chicken, deep side down it makes pot-roast. I couldn't be happier.

What our customer's say! "Great, versatile cooker. ", Got this a couple weeks ago and have used it a few times. Like the deep pan, and the fact that the lid doubles as a shallow skillet. Well made. Couple little complaints. 1. Lid is awkward to use as a lid. Just doesn't "feel right". An actual lid would be more useful, as opposed to an inverted frypan. Works well, covers the bottom pot and fits nicely, just personally would like a lid with a center handle better. No deduction as this is just personal preference. 2. "Pre-seasoning" was a little weak. Got the 12" frypan at the same time and they'd done a much better job on it. Given that it's sort of a gimmick, I scrubbed and sanded both to remove "pebbly" finish from the cooking surface and reseasoned. The 12" pan came out perfectly, while this one is still pebbly (actually the texture of the iron) and for some reason doesn't seem to want to season correctly. The 12" pan came out black and glossy, while this one came out brown and sticky. They were both done at the exact time, both in the oven together for the same amount of time. I'll give it another try and post an update. Despite these 2 complaints, this is a great pan and I'm sure I'll enjoy it for years to come. "I just bought mine 2 weeks ago", It looks discolored and as if its painted and the paint it coming off when I clean it or cook. If I wanted some China junk I would have bought some! I normally love this company and LOVE cast iron cooking. I just cant believe how much America has changed and how sad it is, we are stuck with this made out side of good old USA because its cheaper else where. Yet I paid about the same maybe 10 dollars more for my old set and it lasted yrs tell it fell and broke. "Combo Cooker", Excelent Product, frying pan, dutch oven, chicken fryer. This thing does it all. I will probably be passing this thing on to my grand children when I have any. "Perfect ... almost", First of all, I bought this for myself, and also one for my daughter for her kitchen. We both use them at least weekly if not more. It's the ideal size for a stew or tagine for a small family or couple. Before buying this, my only cast iron was skillets that have been handed down to me from 3 generations, so I was hesitant about the "pre-seasoned" claim. I am used to being able to wipe my skillets with a towel and maybe give them a little salt rub before rinsing in super-hot water and that's that. The first time I used this I made a beef stew, and was able to clean it just as I do my heirlooms. Bravo Lodge! I would say this is perfect, except I have a very minor complaint about the lid. It's a nice idea to be able to use the lid as a skillet, but it doesn't really function very well as a lid. When I cook something for a long time and I need to check and stir, it's inconvenient to use 2 hands and 2 hotpads to lift this lid, find a place to set it, and only then be able to pick up a spoon and stir. A small complaint -- but now I need to buy a standard lid with a center handle. If I need to buy something else to make this perfectly functional, why not just sell it with an optional standard lid, and I'll buy another skillet if I want one? That's the ONLY reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. Wish there was a 4.5 "Good set of pans", We have been very happy with these pans. I really appreciate Lodge's preseasoning. We don't typically use the two pans together (I have a glass lid from another set of pans that fits on top of these that I use instead), but it's been great to have the two different sizes of pans. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Great product made in USA", This is a great pan which is actually two pans. It is made in the USA. "Cast Iron Cookware - Great Value", My niece and daughter are great cooks and have a variety of cookware - All Clad, Calphalon, etc. However overtime - their cookware has not worn as well -- they both have children and do not have time to "baby" the pots and pans. I purchased a number of cast iron cookware pieces for them -- they are raving about this cookware. Heavy, great heat distribution, easy to clean and care for. So far the cast iron cookware is beating out the competition in value and function. We are purchasing sets for ourselves and also for our other children. "Nothing better!", My mom always used an iron skillet - I finally got one and don't know why I've waited so long. Everything tastes better from bacon to cornbread to stew. "Logic cast iron combo", This is a great product. I use it as often as I can. I made chili for dinner tonight and i browned the ground turkey in the lid then used the lid to cover it while it baked for an hour. This combo works great as a stock pot, dutch oven, skillet, ect. It can go from range to oven with no problems. "Great pan for basic kitchen", if you are just outfitting your kitchen, start with this pan. Especially if you are cooking for 2 or 3. The 10" deep skillet is one of the least expensive, decent fry pans available. You can do a dutch apple pie with the lid on in the oven, you can cook eggs, pancakes, french toast on the lid. If you are cooking for 4, and want just one fry pan, get the 12". Otherwise this pan does it all. Roast, fry, oven and stove top. The pans are tough, mine is going on 20+ years. Downside, takes a bit more oil or grease than a Teflon pan, but then if you own a parrot you already know you can't cook on Teflon. Makes you wonder how good it is for the rest of us. ![]() |
