Others say...
"Powerhouse" I had purchased one of the first sharks, the one with the curved handle. I am a fanatic about cleanliness and since I have a cat, I am a slave to cleaning cat hair. The first one broke, the handle that is, so I decided to buy the more powerful shark. It is by far one of the best hand vacs I have ever seen. It is amazing to see how much hair and dander is removed each time I use it. It is a little heavy but worth the weight! If you clean it each time you use it, you will not have any problems. I consider this a great investment in my health. It was the Shark or my cat and I couldn't get rid of my cat!!!! It is an excellent product. "This Thing Really Sucks! (literally)" This is the best hand-held Shark vac so far. The suction is exceptional for a small vac and the retracting cord is a definite plus (although it needs a little "nudge" from time to time). I gave it only four stars because the air-powered Turbo Brush is too weak to be really effective. It comes with a good assortment of attachments. At $40, a great bargain. "Sometimes all ya need is a little pick me up." It has pretty good suction power. Good for small quick cleanups. It worked great on my stairs. I like how the cord retracts. Its gets heavy to carry after about 10 mins, and I would have liked a crevice attachment. But all in all, I like it a lot! "Good vac, poor build quality" Bought this vac to, among other things, clean out the window frames of a house. Had above-average suction, but after half an hour of work it got quite hot and suddenly quit functioning. After it cooled down for a few hours it spontaneously started working again, but the heat-up-then-quit-working scenario repeated after another half hour or so, and this time it stayed dead. I worked the thing fairly hard (those window frames were really dirty!) but not, I think, excessively hard---it was turned off at least 1/3 of the time I was working, and I cleared any clogs within a few seconds. This vac is a wimp -- all bark and no bite. I'm not the only one with this complaint, and I think it's fair to say there's too great a chance it will break before you break it in. (My mom has had a similar issue with a smaller Shark handvac as well.) Not recommended. "Greot little vacuum" We bought this vacuum as a replacement for a dirt devil. We use it on our boat and it does a much better job than the dirt devil. We have a puppy and it is really great on the dog hair. It's very easy to clean and it's nice to not have to bother with a bag.

What our customer's say! "Filters--a "fine print" issue", I've used this vacuum for two years and it is efficient. It does get hot (even when new) when the filter needs cleaning, which is often. Fine dirt accumulates in the HEPA filter and can't be removed by tapping so rinsing is necessary, with a 24-hr. drying time before reuse. Filters are available only from the manufacturer, so I called to order some and learned they are very expensive. I declined to purchase, and the customer service rep. was persistent. Only at the end of the conversation did she announce they were offering a special promotion of double quantity for the same price. That made me angry so I bought none. "Decent Vacuum for the Price but not perfect", Good suction power; accessory hose is too short; retractable power cord function fails after repetitive use; hepa filter is not rinsable (after i attempted this following the included instructions the hepa filter had mold growing on it) Replacement hepa filters are not cheap $25 for two at company website. "Excellent Hand Vac", Normally I have not had good luck with Shark products. This is an exception. For people like me with allergies, this is fantastic! The air coming out of the vac is sooo clean. The tap clean filter is a snap. I did not want a rechargeable, but one with a cord. This little machine gets it all up, smells fresh, cleans easily. I purchased this little machine in early 2007 and have had no problems. Love it! "If you want to buy a new vacuum in 2 weeks, this is for you.", This is the worst vacuum cleaner I've ever had. I wanted a handheld vac to get pet hair off my couches and carpeted stairs. It worked GREAT the first time I used it on the couches, though the fact that it got super hot after 5 minutes of use, and made as much noise as an airplane, did concern me somewhat. The second time we used it, about a week or so later, my husband was trying to vacuum our carpeted stairs to get pet hair out, and it kept getting clogged every 5 minutes, and after 20, it smelled like it was about to burst into flames from overheating. We're returning it and checking out a Eureka vac. I suggest you skip this one if you need a vac to do any real work for longer than 5 minutes, as one reviewer has already pointed out. "Not much bang for the buck.", This little handheld vacuum is okay . . . I like it better than the cordless hand vac that I was using, but am somewhat underwhelmed by the wimpy suction power. I thought it would do a better job. I do like the turbo brush attachment, though, but find it much more useful when I attach it to the hose of my regular vacuum cleaner! :-) The Shark needs more power, bottom line. ![]() Read this reviews before You buy... "loved my Shark... until it quit a week later", This is a wonderful vacuum - easy to use, and with many useful attachments. I especially like the crevice tool with the attached brush - you just swivel the brush forward and hold it with a finger as you clean, if you want a softer-ended tool to avoid scratched. The included turbo brush is great on small area rugs that would stick to a regular push vacuum. I'd had my Shark for a week, cleaning the filter after each use. One night I turned it on and nothing happened. We checked the online troubleshooting guide, and called customer support. We were instructed to send it in for free repair, but at our own expense for shipping. Later into the warranty period I might not mind paying for shipping, but after only one week? We complained, but the representative would not reimburse the shipping. We asked about returning it to the local store where I bought it for a refund, but Shark said the store would instruct us to call the company instead. Now I'll be waiting 4-6 weeks for my replacement. I'm hoping the motor blowout was a fluke, because it's truly a great appliance. I'd suggest the company reconsider their warranty policy - at least provide a 30-day grace period for repair without shipping charges. (I also own a Shark steam cleaner - I've actually used the vacuum more in a week than the steam cleaner in 5!) "Best little hand held vacum around.", I purchased this little "Shark" to use in our camper this summer. I am thoroughly impressed. The suction is amazing, it truly will pick up any thing. It's atachments make it extremely useful for all types of cleanup, and the little carry case that it comes with is great. Keeps everythng together and handy. I also like the fact that it comes with washable filter, not one that needs to be constantly replaced. I would highly recommend this little machine to anyone wanting good quality in a small package. "Needs a longer hose.", I wanted a lightweight easy to carry vac for couches, baseboards, etc.. I have found the suction and weight of this vac o.k., but the hoses and attachments are lacking. My main complaint is that the hose is too short and there is no longer stiff barrel attachment. Since the hose is flexible it must be held at the end, So I have to be constantly bent over or crawling on the ground. It can only reach as far as my arm can reach. It is actually easier to get my big heavy regular vac out that has a longer stiffer hose and lug it around the house. "love it!!! 5 stars!!!", MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THIS FOR ME AS PART OF MY CHRISTMAS AND I LOVE IT...GREAT FOR THE STAIRS AND PERFECT FOR AROUND THE EDGES OF THE WALLS!!! JUST GREAT WHEN YOU DON'T WANT TO CARRY THE BIG VACUUM UP THE STAIRS.HAS DIFFERENT ATTACHMENTS FOR ALL DIFFERENT PLACES... THIS IS A GREAT LITTLE VAC AT A WONDERFUL PRICE!!! "Almost Perfect", I just used this on my carpeted 13 step stairway and I am very pleased. Using the air driven turbo brush attachment it picked up all the pet hair with no problem at all. The 7.1 amp motor is very strong and the unit comes with a whole slew of attachments such as a 2ft hose, crevice tool, brush attachment, and a nice black bag to store the entire works in. It also has a carrying strap which you sling over your shoulder to hold it while you clean up. Emptying out the roomy collection chamber is a snap, and I was particularly thankful for the special mesh like cover protecting the Hepa filter which made removing the pet hair very easy. AND it's retractable cord is the cat's meow. My only complaint is the placement of one of the carrying strap ends which I feel should be placed further towards the front of the unit. The way the design is now the unit tends to tip forward too much which is annoying but I am sure I can rig something up to remedy this. All said I am very happy with this unit and it sure beats dragging my regular vac up the flight of steps. ![]() |
