Others say...
"Shiver - Sweat Cycles" I bought this AC because of its power and energy efficiency, but those two qualities are exactly what make me hate it now. When it's on a cooling cycle, it noisily blasts arctic air until it hits the targeted temperature, then it completely shuts off! No fan, no blower, just off. Silence. Until the room warms up and the unit roars back to life. And it is LOUD! I'm not sure what the actual temperature spread is between cycles, but, as this unit is in my bedroom, I spend the night alternately sweating when it's off, and shivering when it's on. Add in the huge noise differential between when it's running and when it's not, and it adds up to a very unpleasant night. I despise this AC. "Loud!!!" Installation for this AC unit is easy. It's a beautiful unit that works great. Very strong cool breeze even at the lowest setting. However!!! This unit is extremely loud. I have been turning the volume on my TV up because I just couldn't hear at the regular volume. "Good in-window A/C" This is a great in-window A/C unit. The electronic controls are spot-on, the remote has a built-in thermometer and works exceptionally well, and it blows ice-cold air. I live in a 2BR apartment in Alabama with no central A/C system, and it works perfectly for my needs. It's also not an electricity monster: I installed it, thinking that my electricity bill would skyrocket...but a month after extensive and extended use, my bill's gone up a grand total of $1.12. I got the unit installed right before it got really hot here (perfect timing), but I don't worry about sweating it out in my own place. It's a workhorse, that's certain. Gripes: it does not automatically shut down when a given temp is reached. I may set its thermostat for 70degF, but it will not turn itself off when that temperature is reached. It's entirely possible that I missed that part when I read the (admittedly well-written) manual, but it ought to be intuitive enough to not require such research. The other gripe I have is with the quality of the unit I first received: like other reviewers, I had to send it back. I'm not sure if it's Frigidaire's fault or Amazon's shipping fault, but the first unit I received had a cracked interior fan head (so it was REALLY loud, as the fan whacked the fan head on each revolution) and the grill on the back looked like it'd been dropped. Like I said...not sure if it's Amazon or Frigidaire Q/A, but I had to send it back to exchange it for another. The unit is loud enough that you'll have to turn up the volume on your TV in order to understand dialog, but I've definitely seen/heard louder units. Overall, though, this is a good unit that offers plenty of cooling power for the price. Now that I've got one installed and working well, I'd give it a 4.(something) rating out of 5! "Frigidaire FAC106P1A 10K BTU" Gets the job done but it is definitely loud. Not louder than other window mount ACs, but it is much louder than the wall mount ones with the cooling unit on the outside. I did not have the latter option and therefore, it was easy to choose this baby from the available options given also its energy efficiency. It is also very easy to install and very easy to remove during winters. The remote helps a lot and also has a display with current temperature and other useful settings. "Summer relief" We purchased the Frigidaire Compact 10,000-BTU air conditioner to use in the garage. Our son makes carts for handicapped dogs and his workshop is in the garage. We tried a portable unit before buying the window unit. It was a waste of time and money. We did have to hire someone to make a "window" in the garage wall, but it's been worth the effort. The unit cools and dehumidifies the space where he works and it's not noisy. We picked it because it was rated well by Consumer Reports and had an Energy Star rating.

What our customer's say! "This is a "Must Buy" if on a tight budget!", We did a lot of comparison shopping and tested many models before buying The Frigidaire FAC106P1A Compact II 10,000-BTU Room Air Conditioner with Electronic Controls. We recently moved to an apartment that only allowed a thru the wall type not to exceed 10K BTU but we wanted a unit that if we ever left here could be used in a window. We also wanted this unit to be Energy Star Efficient, the highest output for recycling the air and a high level of removing moisture. We compared models that ranged from this ones low price up to $700.00. As we are only allowed 1-unit in our apartment and it is about 900 square feet, we knew this wouldn't cover the whole apartment, but we hoped that with its superior to most specs. It would at least make the whole place somewhat comfortable. Well, it does and does it well. We set it at one temperature and it cycles on and off and just by using a couple small fans, does keep out entire 2-bedroom apt. comfortable (though very chilly in the living room where it is). Some have said it is a bit loud, we find it about average considering it moves more air per hour than about every other model out there. To move that much air, the fan must be fast and so a little extra noise is expected. I would prefer it to be quieter, but I honestly think if they did, it would not do the great job it does. Bottom line, if a little extra fan noise will not bother you and you need the best bang for the buck, this unit is for you! "Great AC & the best deal I could find online", I was worried about buying this, because some reviews said it was noisy, but it's not bad at all. If you buy a window AC you can't expect it to be silent - I find it completely tolerable. I can even stand in front of it & talk to people on the phone without a problem. The fan is powerful, too. I never put it higher than low & it cools my apartment very well. I find the timer & other features very useful, especially remote sensing. I am really happy I bought this. My place is basically an M layout, with the AC in the farthest leg, & I can go in the other rooms without needing a fan. I'm still impressed by that. If you are shopping around because you're price-conscious, this is the best 10,000 btu deal you are going to get - everywhere else charges at least $50 of shipping & frequently more for the AC itself. You probably want a friend to help you install it, as it weighs 83 lbs. This AC has single-handedly made the hot, sticky, humid NYC summers totally bearable & I can't recommend it highly enough! "Very nice unit", Had It installed in about 20 minutes, ran it for about 10 minutes and had to turn it down cause it got too cold. The noise isnt much more than a swamp cooler going at full blast but its soooooo much nicer on the muggy monsoon nights. "You paid how much??", First of all, thank you to all reviewers, it helped me in my decision to purchase one, just bought it but havn't installed yet. I am a little confused at the cost of this unit through Amazon, 280.00? I thought they were very comparable in pricing, like I said I just bought one at Lowes for 208.00 (every day price, and in stock) Hmmm, the things that make you scratch your head huh? "outstanding 2 years still ice cold", I bought this two years ago. I love it. Doesn't raise my eletric bill one bit. I just put it on energy saver, auto cool 72 degrees and it keeps my den where i watch tv cold. Its on rite now. Its not whisper quiet but so what. I wouldn't say it real loud either. You will have to turn up the TV a little. The bottom line is this. Bought it 2 years ago and its still going strong and its 90 outside today i'm typing its set at 72 and its clicking on and off. Can be tricky getting the fins in but once you figure that out installation is a breeze. Oh it also has a light which lights up when filter needs to be clean. I have never ran it just on cool because i prefer auto cool, energy saver. Don't listen to other reviews. Well actually i haven't read them but i'm giving it to you straight. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Perfect to cool 450sqft garage", I needed a spot to do my wood working and race slot cars. So my 450sqft, 2 car garage got turned into manland here in the South. I buried the ceiling and covered the walls and sliding door with insulation, then put 3 coats of epoxy on the floor(the cement dust was coming into the house in drifts). I needed a A/C unit to cool the space. I did a bunch of research on window A/C units. I'm retired from GE, and get HUGE discounts on GE products. Most of the units I found(including the GE models) were only modestly energy efficient The description goes into most of the key points, so I won't repeat them here, but a nice touch not described is the negative ion generation...it aids the collection of dust and makes the air quite pleasant(Like after a rain storm...all the negative ions makes it nice to breath). Installation was easy except for one caveat. The installation assumes you have a wood window unit. How you get around that is up to you. At $259, Lowes, Home Depot or GE couldn't compete, even with inferior units. I've been quite happy with my purchase. "Happy camper", I am very happy with this product. Amazon shipping was just great. The unit is a little on the loud side , but works great for cooling. I am cooling around 900 sq ft room and it does a very good job. The thermostat is great as it shuts off when it reaches the correct temp you have it set for. I highly recommend this product "Brrrrrr. Chilly :-)", So far, I love this unit. I put it in a fairly large bedroom and it keeps the room as cold as we want it to be in the summer heat. Someone mentioned they wish there were only manual controls. At first I thought the remote control was a joke, until I wanted to stay under the covers and not have to get up in the freezing room to turn it off :-) It even has a built in digital thermometer. Nice touch. So far we love it! " WAY too noisy!!!", This unit was nice and compact and the controls and remote were good. It also cooled and dehumified well, but I am returning it now after less than a week because not only was it too noisy for me, my neighbors had begun to complain! I don't know how these other reviewers could think it was quiet, but I could hear its loud high pitched hum throughout all the rooms in my apartment! The unit was in a completely different part of my apartment than my bedroom, but it would wake me up every time it switched on. I even had Frigidaire repair people come out to look at it because I thought something must be wrong with it since it was so loud, but they said it was the normal level of noise for that unit - hey also agreed it was very loud and recommended a Gold Star unit. I would strongly recommend against this unit if noise is a concern for you. "A good Choice", I am satisfied with this airconditioner. It is easy to operate and runs quietly.. I specifically looked for a unit that has an energy star to save on electricity,This was important to me. ![]() |
