"good buy" I got this for my husband who is a coffee drinker. He loves using it - it's simple to use, cleans easily, and makes excellent coffee and espresso! "Less than 1 STAR" I have had this machine for 9 months. The knob never worked all settings only the top or bottom. The case cracked on the espresso side, the black handle broke off the glass carafe on the expresso side. The steam no longer works that just happened. I hate this machine and would never buy another KRUPS product, what a piece of JUNKKKK. "REAL PIECE OF KRUP!" We replaced a Krup coffee/espresso combo which we purchased about 12 years ago. What a wonderful machine! Unfortunately, this model was no longer available. The model #985 was the recommended replacement. However, it doesn't even come close. 1) The basket for the coffee filter is too small in diameter for the filter, causeing grounds to fall into the brew. The basket also leaks, giving you a countertop lake to start your morning. 2) The espresso is okay provided you don't want a cappuccino. The froth attachment is so low and it is difficult to get the milk pitcher under the spigot. The milk froths very quickly, and your container is overflowing with foam while the milk is still cold. It's okay only if you froth enough milk for 1, maybe 2 shots, but if you need milk for the full pot (4 shots), you'll need to froth milk one-half at a time. The pot is will soon be available for sale at our local Goodwill. "Krups XP1599 Coffee and Espresso" Purchased a refurbished Krups XP1500 Coffee and Expresso Combination Machine, Black as a wedding gift for a neice. The packaging box was crushed as was the interior manufacturers packaging. "Krups XP1500 Coffee and Espresso Combination Machine" Normally the machine is good. However, the one I purchased leaked badly. It had to be sent back for repair, and Krups does not pay for the shipping. It has not yet returned, so whether or not it has been repaired properly is not known.

What our customer's say! "Residue unacceptable, BAD design", The holes in the sieve for the espresso are too large. Using espresso grind, there is a nasty, unacceptable residue that mixes with the coffee. I called Krups customer service. Rep said my grind was too fine! If the machine can't use espresso grind for expresso, it is designed wrong. As others mentioned, the froth doesn't work correctly. There is no steam left for froth after the espresso it made. If you want froth, you have to reload more water in the machine and wait for it to heat up again! I have a previous generation Krups 985 machine. Holding the sieves to a light, it is obvious that the new sieve's holes are larger which is the reason that coffee grind passes through the sieve. The only reason I bought a new one is that the on/off switches were broken on the old machine, and I used it by plugging and unplugging it for each use. I'm using the old machine once again. Pass this model up, or try it and return it. "Makes a good cup of coffee and espresso", I've had this machine for about two weeks and it works great. Granted it's not a high-end machine, but it gets the job done. After reading other reviews about the handle breaking off the espresso pitcher I've been gentle with mine and haven't run into a problem. I'd recommend this machine if you want a combo unit and don't want to pay $100s more. It makes a great cup of coffee and an awesome latte. I might have given it a higher rating if it had a thermal caffe. "Another disappointed customer!", My wife doesn't drink coffee, so it is appropriate to say "I" received the XP1500 as a wedding gift. Like others, the SECOND TIME I made espresso, the handle cracked on the espresso grounds holder from the normal pressure of turning it into place. Customer service assured me that they could do nothing unless I had the receipt. This was two years ago, and the machine was a brand new item, so there should have been no question to the age of the machine for warranty purposes, but I had no receipt since it was a wedding gift. They wouldn't even pay the shipping for a new holder. In short, they wouldn't budge, and if I wanted a new grounds holder, I would have to pay full cost to do so. So I kept it, being very careful over the last couple of years to not turn it too hard. Today, it broke further, rendering it useless. To be fair, I have tried to make espresso and cappucino many times, but I have never been able to get a truly good cup from this machine. Other problems: the frother is too low. You need to angle the milk cup too much to be useful. A half cup of cold milk will turn into a counter full of frothed milk when it's done. You're better off researching all products and choosing one that is made with better materials, has better reveiws for the quality of the resultant coffee, and going with a company that has BETTER CUSTOMER SUPPORT. There's a reason that "customers who purchased this product also purchased..." "...REPLACEMENT ITEMS!!!" "Good coffee, disappointing machine", We've been through two of these machines in five years. That may be good for some people but for $100 we thought it would work longer. Even with constant cleaning, after awhile it takes forever to brew a pot and most of the water/coffee is lost in steam. The handle also broke off of the espresso ground holder the first or second time we used it. We're going for another brand this time around. "Not a good coffee maker", This is my second espresso machine. Unlike my first one, I didn't do any research before buying and have regretted it. The frother doesn't stick out all that well and makes it difficult to get a cup to froth the milk. It also stopped working after about third or fourth month. You have to use the glass contain for espresso because it is difficult to put a coffee mug under the spout. Finally, you have to buy coffee filters and is a pain. 
Read this reviews before You buy... "Stay away from this one!", I've had Krups before, but this one will insure that I never buy another. It makes fair coffee, but luke warm expresso (if you can call that expresso). The handle on the espresso pot broke off after approximately 12 uses. Also, note that his unit does not have an automatic shut off. "Started out good, but did not last long", I'm new to making espresso and lattes, so lots of trial and error was required. Out of the box, the machine performed well and true to other feedback, the frother worked extremely well. The steam control knob was required to throttle steam flow to achieve micro-froth. After using every day for 2 months, it now takes 20 minutes to make a latte and there is barely enough steam to froth. If you're serious about making espresso, pay a little more and get a more robust unit. "Glad we bought the Krups XP1500", I tried buying this item on line from a major dept store 3 days before Christmas. After they processed the order (which included tax) they told me it would ship on February 8th. I cancelled the order and went to Amazon.com. I had the item the day after Christmas and we have used it daily ever since. We are very happy with the purchase and are very glad to have it in our home. We are also very glad that we bought it through Amazon.com. "best buy", I looked at lots of machines because I wanted quality but didn't feel like paying for balls and whistles. This coffee maker does what it is supposed to. It makes great espresso and great coffee. If you can live without chromes and brass and all that jazz, this is a great buy. "not like they use to be", My mom has has Krups products for year and has been very happy. This latest purchase was very disapointing. Case is more plastic and cheaply made. Frothing tip is on the left side which makes it harder to froth. And the coffee basket would not open without using a knife. (defective) She returned it for credit and went back to her old combo coffee/expesee maker. I think Krups should be advised of this review also. |
