"Krups KP1010 - Bad choice" I recently purchase this machine and have used it several times over the past few weeks. I have found that it leaks from around where the lid closes and the water does not flow through the coffee evenly. Frequently, the coffee package is pushed down in the holder which causes the water to flow around the coffee. The result is weak coffee. Frequently water/coffee spatters over the counter. I tried several different brands of coffee.. all suposedly compatible with the machine. I did the research and thought I had made a good choice but I was wrong. I'm tempted to just toss it in the garbage and try something else. "Makes great coffee but breaks almost immediately" I got my Krups KP1010 from a garage sale, new in the box. The owner had received it as a gift and didn't want it. I had been using a Melita pod coffee maker. The Krups was light years ahead and I just loved it, especially the cappuchino. I used it every day for about two weeks, and then, just as has happened to so many others, the slide lever got stuck in the closed position. It will NOT open no matter what we do, so is now virtually useless. I wrote Krups customer service, immediately got back an auto-reply stating I would hear from them in 1-2 days. That was 7 days and 3 emails ago, and still nothing. Their customer service is non-existant. I really didn't expect much since I bought the machine "used" and don't have a receipt, but its a darn shame that something that really does the job would have this one area that seems to be defective an unacceptable percentage of time. I like it enough to buy one new, but I'm afraid to. Now I'm only out $10, but if I bought a new one, it could be $100. Wouldn't you think they could work out the lever problem? So many complaints and yet they do nothing. So, buy at your own risk! "Bad design" I purchased my first Krups KP1010 in March, 2006. Within just 8 months the lever to close the top became very hard to move. Someone with weak hands would find it impossible to move the lever. I then replaced the broken Krups with a BUNN "MY CAFE", an excellent machine, but expensive, which also makes tea, but no Cappuccino. Then I sent the broken Krups to the recommended repair facility. That whole process took several months. The replaced machine (apparently a new one) sat for awhile unopened, and when I tried it out yesterday for Cappuccino, all I got was an immediate rapid flashing blue light, regardless of how carefully I tried to prime the machine. New and defective right out of the box! The one year warranty is measured from the original purchase date! So now I can throw a $100+ Krups into the trash can where it belongs. Avoid this machine, and consider that it costs over $11.00 to mail a defective Krups back to be repaired. Also the lever on the new replacement machine was hard to move right away, which suggests that the lever design is poor. "Don't give up on pod coffee, this one does the trick!" I have nothing bad to say about this coffee maker. We had just gone through TWO of the much cheaper Black&Decker units. Which made cold coffee with a bad plastic taste. Eventually both failed. Not much more than six months. We were giving up on the idea of pod coffee. I had Adult ADD and coffee before bed can sometimes help me sleep. My partner must have decaf in the evening or not sleep. We used to waste a lot of coffee making multiple pots. Or forgoing it all together. Then I saw the Krups. It was expensive enough to make me pause. But, the brand and obvious good construction made me take the risk. It is a GREAT coffee maker. the time from when you hit the power button to it being ready to hit brew is about the same time it takes to grab a couple of mugs and put the pods in. The brewing itself takes about as much time as it takes to go to the fridge and pull out the creamer. The coffee is hot. Tastes good. Stronger than the B&D which always seemed weak. The water resevior is easy to fill. Either by pouring water directly into it, or removing it to the sink. The water filter is a GREAT touch. The folgers coffee is good. We've tried the maxwell house, but, we seem to have trouble finding it not VERY past its expiration date at Safeway. I have used the deeper cup for hand made "pods" to make tea and some imported coffee I get. If the price is stopping you. Or you're giving up on pods. Take the risk and buy this machine! "Ultimate Coffee Convienence" This machine makes great tasting coffee. It is the Homecafe brand but I use the Senseo and other pods as well. I also have a Senseo and this machine makes a much, much better cup of coffee and the reservoir is about twice the size. It doesn't have that bitter layer of foam that Senseo thinks is so great for some odd reason. Including the warm up time this machine has a cup of coffee waiting faster. Plus it doesn't heat the water prior to brewing only an element inside and once the element is ready (which is quicker than the Senseo heats the water) your good to go until the reservoir is dry. I'll bet you could make coffee 3 cups to one (nice when you have guests) compared to the Senseo. If you can find one of these machines buy it.

What our customer's say! "design flaw", When I opened the box and put my coffee maker together I noticed that the double pod holder could not be used. When I tried to close the lid to seal the coffee pods for brewing, the lid did not cover the pods, so I was unable to latch and seal for brewing. I kept the coffee maker and only use it for single pod making because I paid very little for the unit and really that is all I need for right now. "Great Brewer at the Right Price", The Krups Home Cafe brewer is one big leap in quality from the Black and Decker version. The B & D was the first pod machine I bought. Though easy to use and producing a nice brew, the cheaply made B & D was dead in the water almost a year to the date I bought it. Krups has long been known for making fine products. I bought mine new for $100 but if you look on Amazon, E-Bay, Bizrate, etc, you can sometimes get it cheaper and even with low or free shipping. The Krups is much sturdier that the B & D. It isn't cool looking like the Senseo, but that doesn't matter to me. What I like about it is that it has passed its first year with flying colors. It produces a fine brew and just before the end of the cycle, it froths the coffee which produces a great taste and aroma, just like in your favorite coffee house. This is a wonderful product for its price and I am glad each morning when I sip my coffee that I made the right choice. "Not bad, but not good either", I'm not a coffee snob...I just like what I like. I hate Starbucks (bitter), but I'll tolerate McDonalds coffee (not bitter). My coffees of choice...Seattle's Best(SB)...Peet's...Deidrich's...to bad Starbucks owns 2 of them now. Anyway, this unit isn't bad. It is big. I really didn't need the ability to make 2 cups at one time, but I did want to make more than a thimble sized cup of coffee for my So. Cal commute. I had the Black and Decker GT300. I was using the Presto MyPod with SB or Peets coffee in it. Not as good as my Cuisinart Drip coffee maker, but strong enough. The GT300 had the ability to make a 14 oz cup (acutally about 10oz with a ton of steam). The MyPod held about 12-14 grams of coffee. The one thing that I liked was the coffee was hot...real hot. Even after some half and half, I still had to be careful on that first sip. The the GT300 stopped making coffee (after 2 years) and I only paid $15 at Target on clearance so no complaints. So I read the reviews on this unit and got one at Tuesday Mornings for $50. So, finally, my impressions. 1) As for the lever being tight...people, please...work out a little. So it is a little tight, it's holding back hot water under pressure. It really isn't that tough. As for splattering coffee...get the mug closer to the spout. If you are using 3" tall cups, go get a Senseo and enjoy the tiny cups it makes. Keep things in persective. 2) My first 12 oz cup was with Melitta Filterpads with SB, These things only hold about 5 grams and are a pain to fill. I used a pod in each holder and made a 12 oz cup. That means each pod got 6 oz of water. Weak...Weak...Weak. I also noticed that the temperature of the coffee wasn't that hot. 3) I descaled my brand new unit to see if it would help my temp problem. I ran the machine and the next cup of coffee was only 150F (same as before). After some cream, I had to dump my coffee back into a measuring cup and then into the microwave (my travel mug is metal on the outside). 4) I just received my new Perfect Pod Maker. I made a few 10oz pods. This thing is cool to play with and super easy to use. 5) Made a 12oz cup and the flavor was much improved. But the temperature is still only 150F. I think the GT300 coffee was Actually stronger in flavor and it was hot. I'll keep trying...maybe I'm just not seating the pods well enough. I really wanted to like the Krups, but I just can't. I am using almost 2 times the coffee, pods that are more expensive than the Presto Pod filters and get luke warm coffee...well you get the message. Does anyone know if you can increase the temperature on this unit??? Hope this helps "Excellent Value", Single-serve coffee is the way to go in home coffee making. The Krups1010 does a good job and at the price paid ($50) is an excellent value. Coffee temperature is just a bit less than I prefer and the lock-down lever is somewhat annoying, but certainly not a deal-buster. Can use Home Cafe and Senseo coffee pods that are available at many stores selling grocery items--Amazon coffee subscription service offers best deal. Overall, this is a good buy when compared with the quality/cost ratio for other single-serve coffee makers, including the excellent Keurig, and I recommend it to intersted buyers. "Nice machine, even better when on sale!", I picked up one of these cheap from a Tuesday Morning store: $49. Mainly to give my wife the choice of making her own decaf for the next nine months! It's a study machine and relatively easy to use. It heats up from cold in around a minute and brews a cup in about another minute more. The water tank is easy to fill, either in the machine via a hose or by pulling the tank. The charcoal filter is a nice feature but you'd probably be filtering your water anyway if you're that worried about it. My only complaint thus far is the latch that clamps the lid closed is VERY stiff. When you slide the lever it's spinning a clamp that closes on the pods. I'm hoping it'll loosen up a bit over time. Most pod machines don't make as strong a cup of coffee as I'd like and this one's no exception. It's a little weak compared to the rocket fuel I've been making in my drip machine. But I'm guessing that has more to do with how I make my coffee and not really the drip machine. I'm going to try a few different brands of pods to see how they compare on strength. Given the amount of coffee used I'm reasonably certain the 1010 is making it appropriately strong. If I used the same small amount of coffee in a drip machine I'm guessing it would be weaker than I'd like. I'm not making this as an excuse for the pod machines just an explanation. I think some of us have really been overdoing how strong we make our coffee! Fortunately this machine makes another cup quite easily! I'm guessing my coffee consumption is going to go up a bit... So, it's a nice machine that does a good job and can be found on sale for a terrific price. See if your local TM has one and give it a try. 
Read this reviews before You buy... "Single cup server #2", This is my second single cup server. My first was an ok Black and Decker that died - multiple plastic failure after a year of use. But that year convinced me I REALLY like getting the coffee in the amount offered by a single cup server. This unit is GREAT. I've had it 11 months already - an not a bit of problms with it. The coffee is great - and I can easily adjust the strength. I have tried the Tea pods - they are all right, but abit weak. I dislike the taste of the cappacino pods - but they act like they were advertised. I would recommend this unit to anyone who wants the convenience of low mess of a single cup server. "Damaged", This item was sent to us damaged and missing pieces. It looked like it had been used prior to them sending it to us. I dont feel the company made it easy for us to return it and it was a gift which was very embarassing. I will never order this way again! "Now I drink coffee, too!", I like the a previous reviewer, bought ours at Lowes, where they are on clearance for 39.95. It came with five packages of goodies to brew: Two types of Lipton tea - vanilla hazelnut (20 pods), English Breakfast Tea (20 pods) Two types of coffee - Millstone Columbian Supremo (18 ct.) and Millstone Hazelnut Cream (20 ct.) And one 10 ct. Folgers Cappucino pods. SOOooo good! AND it came w/ 2 coupons for FREE Folgers or Millstone coffee. Nothing to buy w/ the coupon. I have used it to brew regular tea bags, made my own pods using a small coffee filter, put coffee in it, fold it over 4 times and brew just like a pod. I have brewed VERY hot water in our cast iron teapot and made loose green tea, etc. ... the list goes on. I have never been a coffee drinker, but I am a total "foodie" and a sucker for a good kitchen gadget. It was so good for that price that we went and bought another one at Lowe's just in case anything ever happens to it. We got all the coffee and teas over again. Good deal. Amazon sells the same $30 value coffee pack that we got for $14.95. "Better Bargain", I picked up mine at Lowes for 39.95. I have made coffee, latte, and tea for both single and dual cups. Great flavor, fast and easy "Great coffee maker!", My husband brought this home from our local home improvement store. It was the floor sample and marked down considerably. I don't know that we would have spent $120 for this machine, but we are both really pleased with it. 1. Brews one OR two cups simultaneously in about 60 seconds. 2. No hassle of cleaning a carafe and filter basket found in a traditional coffee maker. 3. Eliminates wasted coffee AND saves us time. This I think is the biggest impact for us. My husband leaves for work at 5AM and I leave at 8AM. So every morning he would brew 4 cups for himself and I would have to wash everything and brew another 4 cups for myself (that was the smallest amount that could be made with our regular pot.) We both wasted about half of each pot. 4. The coffee and cappuccino that come with this machine are quite good. The Hazelnut Cream coffee has great flavor to it, and the cappuccino was good but could have been more frothy. The refill pods are pretty inexpensive too, about $.14 (yes, fourteen cents) per serving. This is much cheaper than some of the packs I have seen for the Tassimo machine, which are around $.40 per serving. Great buy! |
