Others say...
"Nice Espresso make - Service Issues though" The Aroma line appears to be a solid, basic, decently designed espresso maker that, as a newbie shot puller, I have found to make it very easy to pull a decent shot right out of the gate. Everything I wanted was there; solid pump pressure to allow finer grinds, generous water reservoir, basic but solid construction (for the most part), a pressurized portafilter that lets the steam pressure build to a good level before allowing the shot to start pouring, a heated top for keeping those shot glasses warm, and an easy to use steaming wand. Just enough controls to give you the basics (power, pump, steam boost) but no bling to speak of (if you're into that look elsewhere). Some construction in surprising areas is flimsy, like the portafilter. The handle is hollow brittle plastic, compared to others that use a solid handle where the steel of the filter body goes through the handle. Customer support is where I had my issue. Very knowledgeable and quickly offered to send me another portafilter handle when mine broke, but it took three months, 3 emails, and 3 phone calls to get the replacement. I hope I'm just the exception. "a great cup o' joe" I saw this first on an episode of Alton Brown's show (brand blinded, but I'm pretty sure this was the machine). I had used a Gaggia in the past which worked pretty well, but this one had met if not exceeded my hopes. I make espresso/cappuccino almost daily and in the three months I've had this unit it has performed beautifully. It's fairly quiet, heats up quickly, and consistently makes good espresso. It is critical to have a good grinder for the consistency of the coffee you're using, so understand there is more to good espresso than the machine. Overall, great machine at a good price. No complaints. "top notch machine" Absolute fantastic product. Had this for about a year now and it still works perfect. Heats up very quickly and brews an excellent shot with excellent crema. The steam wand also works very well. Tip: do not open wand completely as you will end up with enormous amounts of foam before it's hot enough. The pressure it puts out is intense. Between my family and I it makes about 8-10 shots daily and lots of steaming and it has handled it amazingly. Can't say enough good things about this product. Also, very solid construction. "Most Excellent" I am a relatively new coffee drinker, and this is my very first espresso machine. So far, I have not had a single problem with it, and could not be happier with the espresso it makes. The steam wand is a little low, as other reviewers have mentioned, but aside from that it creates a generous amount of foam, and is fairly easy to clean. The tank on the back holds enough water to keep you going for a few days, and can be filled from a pitcher or removed for filling at the sink. Overall, I would recommend this machine to anyone who desires coffee-shop quality espresso for a decent price. As for acessories, I would also recommend a small brewing pitcher and frothing pitcher. A 53mm tamper is nice too, but is not required, as the coffee gets packed into the portafilter when you lock it in place. So far, I have found from experience that a grind between medium and fine works best for this machine. Experiment a bit and find the grind that suits your tastes, and leaves a compacted "puck" in the portafilter after brewing. "I like it just fine" After having been disappointed with other espresso makers, we thought to give the Saeco a try, and so far (we've had it about three weeks now), so good. The machine makes excellent espresso, with a nice thick crema and good body. You get to control the amount of water that is used, so you can poor single or double shots, and poor them short or long. Of course, this means that you have to tinker around and see how much coffee is good for what size shot, and so on. Aside from a case of the jitters from drinking your mistakes, however, this is a fun process. One important thing is to get good coffee - an espresso grind is important. We grind our own from espresso beans, but Italian espresso already ground is available in specialty shops or coffee bars. Don't blame the machine if you use supermarket coffee and are disappointed with the outcome. The milk frothing and steam feature works well, and seems easier to clean than any other machine we've used. It takes a minute for the water to heat up before pouring the first shot, but that's to be expected with any machine that isn't constantly on. Once you get going, you can work this machine relatively quickly for a home machine. This product is good right out of the box, and we had our first shots on day one. But like anything really worthwhile, it takes a little time to learn how to use it to get the best results. That's not a negative - after a week or so it becomes a point of pride!

What our customer's say! "Excellent machine - quality for years (from user of previous model)", I actually own the previous model (Saeco Classico, now replaced by the Aroma), but I am so happy with it that I came back to write this review. I have had it and used it heavily for five years. Never once have I had a problem with it, with an occasional descaling it runs as new. The brewing routine is obviously a little more elaborate than for automatic machine, but you get to keep control over all the parameters. The machine itself is quite heavy and rugged, but it lends it a solid, professional look. And the espresso is fantastic - I do not recall having a better cup at any restaurant or coffee shop, nor have I come across an equally good home machine. "The espresso machine I have been dreaming of...", I have had my machine for a little over a month and couldn't be happier. It is simple to use, easy to clean and makes great espresso very quickly. It's worth every penny! "awesome", I'm not much of a reviewer, but more of a rater only. But, I give this 5 stars because it is simple to use, it has a great price, and produces amazingly good espresso! Definitely get this model if you want a good machine that won't break your bank! P.S. Illy espresso pods work great with this machine. "dangerous compression", After making a cup of coffee it is normal to be able to remove the Portafilter. With this machine the pressure stayed on and would not let up. When turning the filter handle to open hot coffee grounds sprayed 4' to 5' away, accompanied of hot steam and water, causing a mess and risk. The customer service department was not very helpful. I returned the unit to Amazon granting me a complete reimbursement. I am done with this brand. "great machine for the price", This is my 3rd espresso machine and I like it the best. It is well built, easy to use and make great espresso. I love it! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Absolutely Wonderful", Having only used a steam powered machine prior to this purchase, I am very happy with this machine. I have no complaints as I've not used a better machine. That said, using an electric blade grinder and fair trade beans from a local shop, I am very much enjoying my drinks. One note, unless your machine is going to be on the edge of a counter or some surface, the steam wand is too long to easily use a 20 oz frothing pitcher. The machine has to be lifted up first. Effectively making it impossible to properly steam milk. Solution, buy a smaller frothing pitcher. "Good machine "MAYBE" Customer service stinks", I received my my wifes machine from Amazon and was excited to open it. I brewed the first batches with failure until I got the knack of it. A big problem was the steamer. It was made so low that the machine had to be pulled to the edge of the counter so that a small coffee cup could be tilted under neigh. The valve for the steamer would leak water/steam even when turned off. I didn't know if it was the bad valve or the machine was just not capable of heating the milk. I called the manufacturer to give them a try. They had large notes everywhere that said "DO NOT RETURN TO SELLER". The manufacturers said that it was indeed a bad valve and that they would repair it and have my wife's Christmas gift back by mid March. I asked if there was something else they could do since I would have a "repaired" machine back just in time for my wife's birthday. Their only response was that I could not return to the seller. I sent it back to Amazon for free the next day with a full refund. Amazon customer service was great. "Good Manual Espresso Machine", This machine is solidly built with a metal casing. It produces great espresso, but this is to some extent dependent on your technique, so you need to look on it as something to be learned and a technique to be mastered. I admit to having some difficulty getting the right amount of espresso without the annoying problem of having water and pressure remain in the device after you switch off the pump. Sometimes I need to turn off the pump to keep the cup from overflowing, and on these occasions water is left above the filter basket and you can get a spray of hot water and coffee grounds on your hand and around the kitchen, if you do not release it very slowly. It does not appear to have a valve that turns off the water supply after enough water for a single or double shot has been supplied. This would be a great feature. As it is, you seem to need to switch off the pump when you have enough volume of espresso in your coffee cup. On some other occasions the water stopped flowing while the pump was still engaged and I got a nice dry brick of coffee grounds when I removed the basket. I do not yet understand why I get both results and how to consistently get the brick, if this is indeed possible. We did put the tube into the water tank improperly once and had to prime the pump again, but the directions tell you how to solve this problem. Read the book. The steamer for latte works great. All in all our first day with the Saeco Aroma was fun and we made some good coffee. I can definitely see why the fully automatic espresso machines are popular, as manual machines like this one require a lot of love and cleaning. But you can make great espresso with this machine for about one tenth the cost of a good quality automatic one, so I highly recommend this machine for the technically inclined who will enjoy getting more intimately involved with the making of espresso. If there is a machine with a switch to control the water supply and get dry bricks consistently for a modest additional investment of cash, I would buy that. "Mmmmm Saeco", I love this machine . No problems priming it as some have mentioned although I am getting 'liquidy' grinds post brew . Might be my grind ? I used to have a Gaggia 14101 ,listed at $600.00 , and the Saeco works better, cleans up easier and just feels more robust and sturdy If you don't want to waste a bunch of money on a machine that does everything short of drink the coffee for you but still want a really great espresso this is the machine for you. Grazie, Saeco !! "Saeco Aroma is my new friend.", After much research (similar to many fellow reviewers) I chose the Saeco Aroma because of its good reviews, quality construction and simplicity of use. It seems that Saeco has added an additional quick set up guide to the package contents which made the first use flawless. Still trying to find the right beans, grind and amount of grounds for my perefect cup but during this experimentation I have had many yummy cups of great espresso. My only complaint is that the steam nozzle only provides three inches of clearance from the countertop where I keep my Aroma, which does not provide enough clearance for a frothing pitcher large enough for one cup of milk. My solution was to raise it off the counter by placing it on a platform. I tried several solutions and have settled on an "Ikea-Hack". I bought two Ikea Ordning food warmers, tie wrapped them together and now my black Aroma sits on a cool stainless platform that also serves as a storage space for coffee scoops. Bought my Aroma on sale at Bloomingdales for a steal at $180. ![]() |
