Others say...

"Excellent Customer service and better coffee then Keurig"
I owned my Senseo HD7210 for a little over a year and a half (using it anywhere from 6-8 times a day I am an avid drinker!). I threw away the receipt after a few months since I figured i would never need it. When I called customer service to figure out why the motor was not working properly they asked me for the numbers on the bottom and said no problem we will send you a brand new Senseo in the mail today. Not only did I get a brand new Senseo (with tin cans this time!) but they sent prepaid shipping for me to return my old model and they also gave me a new 2 year warrenty. I honestly expected them to say throw it away and buy another but that was not the case.
As for the coffee. I tried the flavored varieties as soon as they came out and they leave a lot to be desired. But the medium and dark roasts are wonderful. I fill my travel mugs at least twice a day only using one pod (I use the 2 cup option and even add some milk and the taste is wonderful). The coffeeduck is a reusable filter that allows you to use what ever type of coffee you enjoy so if you do not like the senseo pods others are out there. I went through two Keurigs and hated both of them. The first arrived at my house with defects (vibrated my cup off the saucer and was extremely loud and had weak coffee while the second just had extremely weak coffee). The Keurig cost almost $150 and 18 pods are $9.99. Senseo's prices are better, the customer service is better, and I honestly believe the coffee is better.
I love my coffee as I brew an entire pot in my Mr. Coffee machine (just for me mind you) and then I snack on the Senseo for my evening coffee. If I can try four different pods of Keurig and say to all of them the Senseo is better and then read Keurigs reviews of their blotched customer service then I think I try and help people make that wonderful decision of what coffee maker to buy! Good luck in your research!
Oh and lastly you do not need to prime your machine every time you make a pod.....I prime my machine about once a month sometimes once every two months and the coffee always tastes pretty much the same. I turn it on when I wake up and put in a pod. Brush my teeth and when I come back the machine is ready for my first cup of the day. No real waiting to complain about. Some of these reviews seem like they need to stare at the pot for the 60-90 seconds it takes to warm up. Hope this helps!

"Overall very good for what it is."
If you want a quick copy of coffee this is a pretty good unit. The cost factor is quite high though.

"Nice Machine! Senseo pods awful!!"
First I must say that you do not have to use the Senseo pods in this machine. I used pods of my choice and it made a good cup of coffee. Of course you need to be sure the pods fit. I received the senseo pods, tried them, and the coffee was very bad! I'm giving them away! Plus they are more expensive than others. I do not recommend the senseo pods.

You do need to experiment at first with different amounts of water, etc.. But remember it's a new machine, a new experience. Everyone has different tastes. It only took me 2 tries to get the taste I prefer.

As far as prepping it before each brewing, I did not see that in the instructions! That is not necessary! You do need to prep before first time. Then I would prep it every few cycles.

In sum, I highly recommend this machine. I had a different brand before this one that was very cheaply made, and died in months. Enjoy!

"Senseo Coffee Maker"
This was a replacement purchase for an old Senseo that we used up. A must have item in our house.

"LOVE IT!!!"
My mother bought me a BUNN pot for home about 5 years ago, and I thought that was the BEST coffee pot ever....Until now. I also used to go to Starbucks every morning on my way into the office....Until now!

I love this pot. It brews quickly, which I loved about the BUNN, but makes the Yummy coffee like I enjoyed from Starbucks. Yes, it is a bit noisy, but only for a minute, and like someone else said...it could be much worse.

Enjoy!!

What our customer's say!

"Love It!", I love this Senseo coffeemaker, it's simple and easy to use. It makes a great cup of java, can't start my day without it.

"Great machine",
Love it - got it as a gift.

Might upgrade someday to the one with adjustable strength (water volume), but probably not.
I bought the Coffee Duck and can use my own espresso grind coffee in it (no more having to buy expensive pods and creating more unnecessary waste). At this point, the coffee duck does not work with the fancy senseos, just the plain one. I like the coffee duck way more than the fancy upgrades on the other machines, so I will keep this one until they do.

Sometimes it's hard to get the two parts of the spigot (? don't know what else to call it) apart to clean inside. No biggie.

Will probably get the big tank to make my life easier. That and the coffee duck may be the only improvements to the basic model you really need.

Cheers!

"Senseo coffee maker", This is a truly remarkable product; it is so easy to use! Only the pod is left to your taste. I love the 'foam 'it creates on the surface. It makes my coffee everyday and in a jiffy.

"The thrill is gone........look at a manual drip maker.", When I first bought this machine I thought it was convenient and gave a consistently good cup of coffee. (Along with some foam on top) True, the pod choice was limited, but the result was head and shoulders above my automatic drip machines. Then a had coffee made from a cheap manual drip maker. I can't believe it. These cheap cones that I used to see litter tag sales for pennies actually make a better brew. Why should I pay more for old coffee in pods and ignore the many fresh roasted brands. Somewhere on some coffee page dated around 2005 you will see a positive review from me about this machine......little did I know a better method was invented in 1909.

If you only care about the convience, look at a k-cup machine. You have a better selection of coffees.

"I love it, but it leaks!", I have owned two Senseo machines and for the most part love them. I only drink one cup of coffee as I get ready for work, and this machine is perfect! I usually drink a mild brew (before this machine I was the average Yuban, Folgers type coffee drinker) but to get a decent sized cup of coffee you need to use two pods, so what I do is buy the dark roast, use one pod and make the "two" cup size. The only drawback to the machine is waking up in the morning and finding the tank empty and the maker sitting in a puddle of water! I got rid of my first machine due to this issue. When my second one did the same thing I called the manufacturer. They told me that there is a small gasket at the base of the machine that can lose it's seal when the machine is pushed or jarred. Since I love this machine, I just deal with it and NEVER slide my machine across the counter. Overall, if you are a one cup average joe coffee drinker I highly recommend, but can't give 5 stars due to the leaking.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"If You Really Enjoy Your Coffee Don't Waste Your Time", I received this machine free through a promo with Sara Lee. The only up front cost was the freight. The coffee that comes with the machine is called "dark roast". I would rather drink hot water and lemon, that would be tastier. I was still curious so I purchased the Senseo Espresso pods and espresso pod holder. If you follow instructions and flush the machine with hot water first, you can get a cup of soso espresso, but I would never pay full price for this machine to drink their grades of coffee. If you are a coffee aficionado or espresso lover, save up and buy the "Lavazza Espresso Point", yes it is expensive but you cannot get a better cup of coffee. You really do get what you pay for.

"Meh", I was excited about this at first - nice crema, reduced cleaning, convenience of pods. After using it exclusively for several weeks, there was something missing but I couldn't figure out what it was. The coffee wasn't bad, but it wasn't better than my auto drip, and it was nowhere near coffee house standards. Not sure if my unit is broken but I finally figured out today that the heating of the water is less than optimal. This may explain the need for priming... My temp, even after priming, only reached about 170 degrees. For proper coffee extraction temps should be in the 190-200 range. So, due to this, I say pass on this model.

"fabulous!!!", I love this coffee maker...I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. But I have to say the coffee is hot(I Burned my lip and tongue a little), easy breasy clean up, the senseo barista blends are perfect for this, the caramel tastes just like star.....s which is what i was looking for. Now I can save money and not go to the coffee shop all the time for a latte. havent tried the tea yet but i do have the tpod holder. will let you know about that. I have ordered the coffee duck permanent pod filter for this machine. will let you know about that as well. Highly recommend to purchase if u are a latte or cappucino junkie!!!!

"Very nice machine.", Very nice. Makes a great cup of coffee and is a breeze to clean up. Now that everyone is getting into the pods the variety is out there. It is perfect for my cup of coffee to take on the road...now I do not have to waste 1/2 a pot.

"A different machine.", I reviewed the Senseo Model HD7810 several months ago (I mistakingly placed my review under the HD7890 model). In that review I gave the Senseo a 3-star rating and stated: "...this machine 'can' make a pretty good cup of coffee, but I'd hardly call it great". Well, things have changed since I wrote that review. I ended up purchasing the 'Perfect Pod Maker' and it gave my Senseo a new lease on life. Matter-of-fact, I can honestly say that my Senseo could actually brew a very good mug of coffee (not great, but very close ... and I drink my coffee black). That's because I started using much better grades / grinds of coffee. The Pod Maker allows me to do all the experimenting that I want (I wasn't thrilled with Senseo coffee pods, so now I make my own). For those who haven't used the Pod Maker, check it out. It's surprisingly easy and gives good results every time. Don't like Senseo coffee? No problem, use or grind whatever you like.

So all is right with the world now? Not quite. Shortly after purchasing the Pod Maker (and finally enjoying really good tasting coffee), my Senseo went belly up (my fault ... I should have taken better care of it). Yep, it bit the dust about two months after its two-year warrantee expired. Figures. I suddenly found myself in a quandary. Since I was finally getting very good results, do I buy another Senseo? Or should I spend a lot of money and go for the beautiful Breville BKC600XL? I also considered the very attractive Keuring B60 (or B70). And since I can still use the Pod Maker for these K-cup machines (by adding a K-cup "holster"), I was leaning toward trying something new and different.

A trip to the store (Target) solved my quandary (usually I shop online at Amazon, but hey, we're talking emergency here!). Target didn't have the Breville or either Keurig machines, but did have the Keurig B40 (it is the same size as the B60 and B70 if one can believe the dimensions given in the write ups ... and one shouldn't). Interestingly enough, the Keurig B40 was sitting on the shelf right next to the Senseo. Wow! The B40 was huge! It looked massive compared to the little, unobtrusive Senseo. And since the Breville is a lot bigger than the Keurig, I immediately grabbed the tiny Senseo, checked out and brought it home. Quandary solved and money saved ... and I don't really drink that much coffee anyway. For a family, the Breville or Keurig might make a lot of sense and would be a great choice (for one person, it's a bit of an overkill). They are, after all, very elegant looking coffee makers (especially the Breville).

Now, the reason I'm writing a second review on the Senseo HD7810 is because Philips has redesigned this machine. Oh, it looks the same, but it has two very important differences. First and foremost, the pouring spout has been raised 3/4 of an inch (allows sliding a cup of about 4-1/2 inches tall under the spout). I can now use almost all of my mugs (without needing to remove the seating tray). Second, this new model is a lot quieter than my old model. It's like night and day! Anyone who has a Senseo knows first-hand how loud it is (especially when flushing to clean or when priming -- it's a noisy, vibrating maniac). Even heating the water was loud. To tell you the truth, when I turned the new one on for the first time to prime it, I actually thought the unit was defective. The noise level difference is that great (I hope all the new Senseo's are this quiet, and that mine isn't some aberration). Not only is this thing reasonably quiet, it came with a bag of 16 Sumatra blend coffee pods and a free coupon for any bag of Senseo coffee pods (that's about $10 worth of coffee). It also came with two metal pod containers (looks like tennis ball containers). I'm not really sure what to do with those things. I doubt they will keep the pods fresh ... or fit tennis balls, and they look out of place on the counter. And for whatever reason, Senseo also supplied a small stoneware cup (you'll have to use the 4 oz setting) that I won't use.

Unfortunately, not everything came up roses. This unit seems to be a bit more fragile than my old unit (and I thought that one was too fragile). Operation is the same, although the controls do feel a little different to the touch. A plastic piece (the inside splash lip) to the water container fell off (it doesn't snap tightly onto the container, so I may have to glue it in place ... it may be a problem only on my unit). I was also disappointed in the taste of my coffee. This unit seems to brew coffee weaker, or flatter than my old one. However, this may be nothing more than the normal "breaking in" period. After the first few days my coffee began tasted a tad better (whatever the heck a tad is) and I'm a week into using this unit (either it's tasting better or I'm getting use to it -- I hope it's tasting better, but still not quite as good as my old unit).

So what do I rate it? Most of what I had commented on in my old review still applies. However, Philips redesigned the Senseo so it will actually fit a mug (they must have read all the complaints), and they made this unit surprisingly quiet (oh, you'll still hear it, but compared to my old unit, it's a pretty big deal to me ... but not as big as the raising of the spout). Because of those two solid improvements, I'd rate this model 2 points higher than my old model (upping the rating from a marginal 6 up to a marginal 8). But since it seems a little more fragile, I have to mark it down to a 7 rating (within a scale of 1 to 10), or barely 4 stars. I'm not taking anything off for the early taste problem (as I said, it's getting better). Granted, the taste of coffee depends upon the taster ... or tastee (and obviously the coffee one uses), but for me, a mug of "pretty good coffee" just won't cut it any longer (I guess I got spoiled in a hurry). I keep experimenting and I think this machine has the potential of brewing a very good to great tasting cup of coffee, but right now I consider it in the good range (I can thank the Pod Maker for this improvement -- so if you don't have one of these, all bets are off).

On a side note, there are a couple of problems with Senseo coffee makers in general that I didn't discuss in my earlier review. Unless one uses the Senseo coffee pods, the foaming mechanism (both my old unit and this new one) won't foam properly, or won't foam as completely or as nicely (I've tried using different coffee pods from other manufacturers, as well as the Perfect Pod Maker, and the results are the same --- it foams, but not as well as with the Senseo pods). Why this is, I don't have a clue. Also, for whatever reason, my old pot leaked (I've read where other users have had this same problem). It didn't leak all the time, nor did it leak that much, but enough that I had to check under the pot periodically. It could have been that the splash lip wasn't doing its job, or the interface between the coffee maker and the water container didn't seal on occasion. It's far too early to tell if this one will leak (so far, so good), but I suspect it might. I also suspect that by not filling the water container as high might prevent some of the spillage.

One more thing to mention. Even though my old unit locked up and refused to pour me any more coffee (payback for neglect), Philips does give their machines a two-year warrantee, which is twice as long as what one will get from Keurig or Breville (it sort of evens out the foaming and fragility shortcomings). All-in-all, some nice and very much needed improvements. But honestly, had I not purchased the Perfect Pod Maker, I would not have even considered another Senseo. I would have gone straight for the Breville or the Keurig (expensive, overkill, massive size and all). One could say the Pod Maker saved me a couple hundred bucks.

Note: I wasn't sure where to place this review. The model I purchased is the HD7810, however, it came with the goodies that come with the HD7890 model (except for the thermal travel mug -- I got a stoneware cup). Also the HD7890 gives you two bags of coffee -- I got one bag and a coupon for the second second bag (same difference). I still don't see or read any difference between the actual models, but obviously one is getting a better value with the HD7890 (as long as the HD7890 has the raised spout and quieter operation).
