"My Mother Loves It. " Bought this percolator after my mother had asked for it for Christmas. She saw it in a catalog for $90, and I bought it on Amazon for $60. She's used it almost everyday since Christmas, and she loves it. "bad product" After 3 months of use, the perculator is dead. The electrical function of the pot stopped working. Of course, I no longer have the box and the receipt is filed away somewhere. As a result, I cannnot give this a positive review. PS- we did get a few light brown water days that the other reveiwers wrote about. I thought it was my wife making bad coffee, but I guess the problem is common. "Just as good as Mom's coffee" After decades of putting up with lukewarm results from drip coffee makers, I decided to try a percolator. I've had the Cusinart PRC-12 for over a year and am very pleased with the coffee it produces. I love the wonderful smell of fresh perked coffee in the morning and the temperature and strength is excellent. Other plusses are that it is doesn't take up much counter space and it looks great. Some other reviewers have said that their coffee is "weak and watery". I've learned to adjust the amount of ground coffee to use and have had no problems making a strong cup of 'wake-up' coffee. "Great coffee!" This makes a great cup of coffee. As long as I use a measuring cup, I can even make just 2 cups. Using a paper filter will keep most grounds out of the coffee, since most grinds are set for auto drip which is a finer grind than is needed for percolated coffee. "Avoid the product and Cusinart Customer Service" I had written a glowing review for the PRC-12 Percolator because it produced a great cup of coffee and heavenly aroma. Now, months later, this product resides in a local landfill and I won't buy another Cusinart product ever again. It made great coffee right up to the day I found coffee all over the counter. The leak was tracked to the plastic bulb which broke off when I gave it a gentle twist. I contacted Cusinart Customer Service, emailed a copy of my Amazon receipt and was told they would be happy to provide a replacement lid w/bulb as soon as I could give them the serial number which I was told is on a sticker underneath the pot. Naturally, on my unit, the serial number sticker was missing. What was worse, when looking for the serial number, I found that the base had cracked and warped from the heat of brewing coffee. One more call to Cusinart Customer Service and they once again told me they would be happy to provide a replacement as soon as I provided the serial number which in this case was non-existant. Without that precious serial number Cusinart wouldn't lift a finger to help. The Amazon receipt was a worthless piece of paper when it came to dealing with Cusinart. Due to poor Customer service at Custinart, I've decided to continue to buy from Amazon but I will no longer buy any Cusinart products.

What our customer's say! "Great coffee pot - until you have to start your day with brown water!", I have had this pot for just under a year. Initally, I LOVED it - the style, the ease, and the piping hot, unburned coffee. Then, after about six months, it started presenting me with brown water, or at best, coffee much weaker than I had come to expect from this pot. Imagine this sad scene: sideling up half conscious to this cute percolator, mug in hand, anticipating, no REQUIRING, that first cup of coffee, and all you get is BROWN WATER! This scenario would stop me dead in my morning routine - I would be unable to process what the next step should be! (For those of you in a similar crunch, I have found that if I pour a small portion of the weak coffee back through the coffee basket with the basket lid on, it can improve the coffee enough to get you started on your day, but I wouldn't say it was tasty.) Like other reviewers, I have tried everything imagineable to fix this problem, with no luck. The worst part is that the pot is not consistent in making brown water - some times it still makes a good cup of coffee - so I am conflicted about throwing it out. But the time has come - I just can't face the uncertainty every single morning: will this be a good or a bad coffee day? Be warned - this pot will leave you in a lurch, and you will use at least twice as much coffee as normal - a very expensive problem in the long run. "nostalgia first, taste second, hopefully it works for five+ years - third", Here's my take on the whole coffee thing. If you are a coffee guru, then you are going to go through all the trouble it seems to take to make the perfect cup, and this review is a mute point, or you are going to go to Starbucks and pay for the perfect cup. Most people who make coffee at home and in the morning (time permitting) are like me. Here's my ideal coffee scenario: I believe that buying my favorite high quality whole beans (Kenya AA), grinding them myself (coarsely, so they don't fall through the metal filter), and using the method I believe is best (the nostalgic percolator), is the perfect way to brew. It's my own preference: 1/3 nostalgia, 1/3 good beans, 1/3 convenience. They say that percolating coffee is burning beans. I and many other would disagree. I wake up grind my beans fill them and some cold tap water into the percolator. I wait 10 minutes while listening to that wonderful sound and smelling that great aroma!!! PERFECT! For the GURUS, this may seem like heresy, but for me its the best of all worlds. This model has, so far been great, 4 stars. The "glass knob" is plastic, whatever! Liars!. I've been brewing at the 6 cup line (water and beans) for 5 months at 4 to 5 times a week. Still hot and still consistent. It brews the same every time. This consistency over time is what I think will make or break this product. If it cools down a bit I will clean it. If it gets worse then I will be less than satisfied. If it fails before five years then I will be less than satisfied. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes to make MY AMOUNT of coffee and how black I like it. I cannot set the heat or the brew time (it's all automatic), but the coffee comes out very hot (not burned) and very dark. The only thing I can control is the amount of both water and coffee. I have learned what amounts I like. Other times may vary because of the amount of water and coffee used. Don't go by what the instructions say - go by what is best for you. The amount of coffee you get and the amount it says is one cup WILL BE DIFFERENT. Who cares. Make it the way you like it. This will take time to learn, but it will be best in the end. Every brand percolator is different, to bad you can't have a trial test before buying. So far so good... "2 Thumbs Up For This Percolator", While this percolator is a little more expensive than I would have liked, it is easy to use, and keeps the coffee nice and hot. It has a measuring guide inside the pot as well as in the filter bin, so getting the right amount of water and grounds is not a task at all. Using regular ground coffee is not recommended if you don't want floaters in your fresh coffee, so you will need to either buy coffee ground special for percolators, or you can buy whole beans and grind them coarse for a nice clean pot of coffee. The clear knob at the top does show the coffee brewing and makes the popping sound, just like the percolators from days gone by, which was a nice blast from the past. The power cord is 36" as a safety precaution, so an outlet close to where you will be using this percolator is a must. You can purchase a longer cord for it, though I am not sure where. It's ease of use, and always hot coffee make it worth the price paid, and the shipping took only 3 days, so all in all I am pleased with this purchase. Cuisinart PRC-12 Classic 12-Cup Stainless-Steel Percolator "Cusinart Electric PRC-12", Like so many others, I have tried every other kind of coffee maker. For over 20 years, I used Chemex, drip filter coffee---the glass beaker with a paper filter. Excellent, dark espresso-grade coffee. BUT...first I had to grind the beans, boil the water and pour it in little, by little. It took me 20 minutes to make coffee! Fed up, I next tried a French press; then a Delonghia stove-top Espresso maker. Both are too much work. Now, I'm back to an electric percolator. So far, it's the best of all the above, although it does not make coffee as strong as my Chemex process did unless you use a ton of coffee. But, it's easy, quick and quite good. I should say, good enough. I have had it for only 4 months, so I hope it will last the test of time. My Mom's Farberware lasted 30 years. I inherited hers, so, when that died, I thought, let me try again, only with a more upscale make like Cuisinart. I hope I made the right, long term decision....Here's to drinking good coffee that's not a bear to make! "COMING FULL CIRCLE", Whne I was younger I used to use these type old fashion perculators. I used to enjoy the aroma that would fill the house, and the sound of the perculating. You would know it was ready when the sound stoped. I love the flavorful coffee it produces, it's different than my regular modern coffee maker. I just wish it had an on and off switch so I didn't have to plub and unplug everytime I use it. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Junk", I am sorely dissapointed in this coffee maker. It seems that not matter what I try, different grinds different brands, I cannot consistently get a good cup of coffee out of this pot. Many times I wind up with "brown water". Its hot brown water, but brown water neverless. "Cuisinart Percolator", We haved used the pot for about three months. We are very pleased with its' performance, style of the pot, and taste of the brewed coffee. We would purchase this product again. "Very Good", Cofffee makers either work, or they don't. This one does. It's easy to use (for a percolator) and it's easy to clean. The only drawback ... there's an ever-so-light taste of aluminum in the coffee for the first five potsful ... but that diminishes over time (this wouldn't happen with a stainless steel coffeemaker). "Cuisinart percolator - great coffee & great fun", The new percolator works great; the coffee is hot and flavorful. As an added bonus, the coffee pops up through the glass bubble on top (which is nice and large for viewing). And, it's just so much more energizing and fun watching this "perky" personality early in the morning. Highly recommended. "Excellent basic percolator w/ a great warranty.", This percolator is excellent. Piping hot; no bells and whistles; just an old fashion quality method of making gourmet coffee. ![]() |
