Others say...
"Nearly perfect" Contrary to the previous review. As of April 2007 The V'Spresso is still available and featured on the Saeco web site. This is not my first Seaco product. I owned the Saeco Vienna Deluxe for about 6 years. We loved the ability to brew a great cup of espresso or a large cup of coffee in less than a minute with no waste. My Vienna deluxe has finally become unreliable (probably due to my lack of routine maintenance) so we have bought the V'spresso. So far I am pretty happy with it. One of the most welcome differences is the bypass doser. My wife likes to add chicory to her ground coffee. I suspect adding chicory to the beans added to the problems we had with our Vienna Deluxe. Now she can grind her own beans and add the ground beans and chicory to the bypass doser chute. Another welcome feature is the auto off timer. I use to get frustrated with the fact that our old machine was left on for hours sometimes. This new one turns off anywhere from 15 mins to 3 hours later. We also like the speed and sound level of this machine. It is much faster and less noisy than the Vienna. One thing I don't like is the orange/yellow display. It is as bright as the sun and stays full bright even when the machine is in "energy saving" mode. It is a heck of a night light. I have recently been concerned with how many devices in my house are electricity vampires and I wonder how much electricity this thing sucks down when it is "off." You can use the switch on the rear panel to completely turn it off however, if you want. I have not yet tested if there is a warm up difference in either case. I think I am going to like the V'spresso if it remains reliable. Saeco technical support was wonderful in helping us try to get our old machine back to it's old self. They sent us many parts free of charge. In the end however, we just decided to upgrade. I think you will be happy once you get over the fact that you spent so much for a coffee maker. "Now Only 1 Star" I have tried several automatic espresso machines and this is the best one yet. It is smaller and a more contemporary design than its competitors. The stainless steel boiler and removable frother (so you can still use the steam wand for lattes) are excellent features. I have compared the Delonghi and find this espresso tastes better. No problems at all and highly recommended. 2 WEEK UPDATE: The steam/froth knob stopped working today. Not acceptable on a $1000 machine. I returned it and went back to the DeLonghi Magnifica--so far, so good. I would only give it 1 star now. Also, this V'spresso model might be discontinued. I can no longer find it on the saeco site.

What our customer's say! "Very happy with my cappuccinos", I have been very happy with this espresso maker. I make cappuccinos regularly with it and the steamer/frother works great for this - I get nice, creamy froth. Making the coffee does take some adjusting, and this is specific to the beans you use - so you will want to keep track of your settings (grinder and quantity) for any different beans you use. I was concerned when it arrived because it would act like it was loading and grinding beans, but it would not make coffee - the message on the screen said there were no beans. I talked to customer service who gave me several suggestions that did not work and then they said I could send it in for repair. They did offer a pre-paid shipping label and said they have a 2-week turnaround - this seemed reasonable, but since it was my first day with the machine, I was disappointed. So, I noticed that there were bean grounds in the top bean dispenser in the hole to the grinder, so I poked around a bit and cleared those out and then the machine worked and it's been working for several months now. It has been very easy to clean and operate. I would suggest that you put a towel or something to the left of the machine as I do get a very small amount of grounds/powder that occasionally comes out the vents on the left near the dregs drawer. Originally I thought it would be complicated to prime the machine, but it's actually very simple to do. I would definitely buy this machine again - it was a good bargain for all the automated features. "Really enjoying this machine...", I've had the V'spresso for about 5 weeks now, and according to the digital display it has produced over 200 coffees already, so the machine is getting a lot of use! I've been very pleased with the performance thus far... I'd have to say that it has exceeded my expectations. Some reviewers have complained about the plastic construction, but in terms of the body, only the facia and water tank are actually plastic. The sides and back are stamped metal, and the warming plate on top is a heavy alloy. The brew group is alsmost entirely plastic, but seems to be very sturdy. I was concerned about the cleaning process being an arduous ordeal, but in fact it is quite simple. The instructions recommend rinsing the brew group each time you empty the dregs drawer, which is after every 15 or so coffees. This process takes all of 2 minutes, and the more thorough brew group cleaning, which requires you to remove and rinse a small screen with a speacial tool, adds another minute or so. Overall, the maintenance of the machine is very simple. I was surprised by the amount of water that is deposited in the drip tray after each shot is produced... I would estimate that the drip tray would overflow if you did not empty it for 20 shots. I called Saeco to enquire about this and was told that it was normal behavior for the machine, so I'm no longer concerned. Some have complained about their machines being "DOA", but I can't help but wonder if it had to do with the "ventilate" message, and the precise sequence of steps you have to follow in order to clear it. I did not follow the sequence initially, and could not get the "ventilate" error message to go away. Finally, when I read the instructions more thoroughly, turned the machine off and started over again, I had no problems. To be fair, the "quick start guide" did not offer the same level of information as the full instructions. I can see why someone unable to clear the error after following the quick start guide might think they had a bad unit. I'm sure that espresso purists would tell you that you can get a much better quality shot from a manual or semi-auto machine, and no doubt that is true. However, with good beans the V'spresso produces a better espresso than I can get at the local coffee house, and it will do so in about 30 seconds with the simple push of a button. I couldn't ask for much more. "love it", I have had this espresso machine for abou 1 month now. I love the coffee and it's ease of use. I would recommend viewing the video that comes with it. It gives some helpful tips that help you to best use the coffee maker. "V'Spresso review", This is our second machine...took the first to the cabin. There is a slight learning curve...took a while to figure out how to use the bypass filler. Will take a few runs to get your grind and dosage to your taste but once set up runs well. First unit bought over a year ago with no problems subsequent. I think everyone that goes to a coffee shop and spends 5 dollars a day on crappy beans (alothough its hot and strong) would be able to afford this unit in 6 months. "I wouldn't buy one", The first Saeco we bought was dead on arrival. We then got this one and it was okay had some temperamental issues. It doesn't always recognize the tray and you have to play with it until it does. But recently the LCD screen also went dead. Slowly half the letters have come back but the screen is still messed up. We contacted Saeco and they never replied to the email. For an expensive coffee maker this has been a real disappointment. ![]()
