Others say...
"Absolutely Wonderful Items" I purchased these knives after seeing them at a friends home. They are by far the best knives I have ever owned. I also purchased the wall magnet that goes with them so there is never any damage to the blades when hanging. I would recommend these to anyone. Especially like the way they are marked for veggies, meat, etc. "Good Knives for the price" These are the best knifes i have ever owned. I did not realize how bad my current knifes were until i recieved these. Even the bread knife is sharp. I use these everyday(vegetable knife mostly) and they are holding up pretty well. Well.... It has been over a year now. They are definitely not as sharp as they were, even w/ sharpening. I would still recommend these, especially if you are buying them as someones first "good knife" set. I still have them, but use my wusthof knives most of the time. But you cant beat the quality you get for the price. "oustanding knives" i own a full set of wusthof knives, plus the furi santoku knife. one year ago i bought a full set of the komachi, and now i mainly use those. they are outstanding and fun to look at!!!! "So cute! & So Sharp too!" I have had these knives for a few months now. I personally really love it. I don't use it that regularly though, since we do not cook too often at our house, so I'm not sure if it's the right set for people who always cook at home or not. I love them. They are so sharp and they're super cute! " Pure Komachi 4-Piece Knife Set" When I first got these knives I thought they were great, for about 2 weeks. After that they became so dull that I rarely use them any longer. It was a very disappointing purchase. I expected them to be much better. I've seen them advertized as staying sharp forever and never having to be sharpened. In fact you are not supposed to sharpen them because of the non-stick surface on the knives. These "sharp forever" claims are simply not true if you use them on a daily basis, like you would use any other good kitchen knife. We cook in our house every day and having good kitchen knives is essential. What a let down!! They are certainly not worth the money we paid for them.

Chefs Corner Store offers this stuff with condition New, new for:
What our customer's say! "Have stayed sharp for years! Love 'em!", These knives are perfect for small hands. I've never been comfortable with a chef's knife-- too big and too heavy and have usually done all my routine cutting with a paring knife! These were the first "big" knives I've ever used on a regular basis and I love them. I've never cut myself and never been afraid that I'd hurt myself. They're still charp and doing well after over 2 years of use. Get the tomato knife, too-- the serration really makes a difference for cutting soft, skinned produce. "Great ice breaker.", I really like these knives. It helps me slice and cut eat type of food without washing it between the meat and the veggies. It really does helps me from using the meat knife to cut my veggies. Also, the blades cut very very well. Well worth the money. "sharp", These knives are very sharp and are color coded so the best one for each function is used such as pink for veggies. It eliminates the "jack-of-all-knives" which results in repeated replacements. "Good for smaller hands, attractive, and razor sharp", I'm a bit confused. I was cutting a roll with the bread knife, and it went right through the roll and on through my finger, causing me to get four stitches at the emergency room--but I'm made of meat! This is an uncommonly sharp knife set, and my wife--who is from Japan--tells me that it's because the company that makes it is most famous for making razor blades. As a man who shaves regularly, and has recently sliced his finger with the bread knife, I can attest to the fact that these knives are indeed razor sharp. This is a great knife set particularly for people with small hands who put real craftspersonship into their cooking. Conversely, it is not a knife set made for heavy duty, professional cooking. None of these knives would be used for cutting through chicken bones for instance--so it's a good idea to keep a cheaper, stronger knife on hand as well for this reason. I could definitely recommend this for someone with a lot of mouths to feed at home and real attention to detail though. Since getting my wife this knife set, we no longer have the butcher cut our meat for us, but rather buy a portion of meat and she cuts it herself. Since she's from Japan and is a real genius in the kitchen, this has been a great improvement in our meals. It's amazing how the meat is the same and the cut makes such a difference in taste, but it truly does. We have the best butcher near our home here in New York City, but it's just not the same as when my wife makes those beautiful, itsy-bitsy slices with this knife set that is made for detail. As your typical American sandwich making husband--a big buffalo I am--I love the bread knife, and the vegetable knife slices even the most delecate fruits and vegetables with--again--razor sharp precision. Obviously the fish knife is equally excellent. The florinated resin--which is that colored coating--allows all those smells that imbed themselves into steel to be easily washed off with a plain sponge, so the flavor of one thing doesn't contaminate the flavor of the next. CON: If you're insistant that your knives should be able to do tough work and take a good scrubbing, don't buy these. You don't want to slice though chicken bones then throw these knives in a sink full of boiling soapy water along with every pot and pan you own because they'll be trash in no time. While I'm sure a professional chef will know this instinctively, using and treating these knives differently, even very good cooks likely will not and therefore will have wasted their money. BOTTOM LINE: Great knife set for detailed cutting and very attractive. The fashion is also quite functional here, so you're not just getting a knife set that looks unique but which fulfills a unique niche in your arsenel of utensils in the war on hunger for fine dining at home. "sharp, light, and cute and a nice price but no substitute for the real thing (in my case a shun)", I have the Shun Classic lines Santoku which cuts like a dream 20 months since I bought it. That knife's weight helps it glide effortlessly through piles of vegetables. We are vegetarian & love our veg, I prep and cook literally lbs of veg a day, bought this to try since the price was right and so many reviews were positive, and I wanted an extra one when I did not want to wash up between the onions and the apples or whatever. So first off, I will say that after that knife I bought all of the Alton Brown Shun knives and have not been disappointed after nearly a year of using them. With these knives, I have lots of family stopping by and cooking also at my house, and I bought the Komachi tomato knife first and then this set -- even though I'm disappointed. It IS sharp, and works, but the very weightlessness prevents it from working like a good Santoku should -- you can just set down and rock(on the shun santoku tho some others are not curved as much) to effortlessly slice. Also slicing plantain bananas stained the Komachi blade badly, am afraid to scrub heavily since the resin coating looks delicate. So I bit the bullet and picked up a great set of Shun knives, because with THESE, my hands ache after a couple of handfuls of beans from the effort and I still have 10 handfuls to get thro... Might be an option for an older person who cant hold a heavy knife. So yes you would add an extra digit to the price by going for the real thing, but a good knife is SO worth it. It was also more sticky than my un scalloped shun, so the scallops on this don't seem to be working either. I am not returning it since my M-I-L can't hold a heavy knife, and still likes a big knife so that might be a situation in which you buy this. Which is why I bought a few more of these light but sharp knives for her and other transient users. I would also recommend that you pass on the henckels, wusthof, sabatier etc since I've spent literally thousands of $ on them and have not been as happy with them as with my first single shun knife. BTW, a year on, I have not had an issue with the knives getting blunt, just with them getting ugly stains. ![]()
