"Wastes coffee and already broken"
I am not normally a complainer but this coffee maker was disappointing for the money. Next time it's whatever the local drug store has on sale. First the good things ... it's great looking out of the box and the small size is a real plus to save counter top space. Either cone shaped paper filters or the provided screen can be used. It makes 10 cups of good hot coffee very fast ... which changes me over to the bad points. I like deep flavorful coffee that can only be achieved by brewing slower than this unit allows. You must FILL the water or the coffee will be unbelieveably weak. I have to use twice the amount of coffee to achieve half the taste of the coffee made by my old Krups (rest in peace). No matter how much coffee I use over filling the filter half full, the flavor is the same. If I use what the directions tell me to of the same coffee I've been using for years, I can read a news paper through a full pot. The button and spring that makes the grounds door open stopped working within the first week. The grounds/filter holder somehow has a distroted shape now and the coffee maker looks to have an extended lower jaw. The swinging door and the top don't line up now and the door sometimes pops open ... weird. The The shiny black surface is now satin and has lost its new look after only two weeks of careful care. The chord is made of some cheap plastic crap that retains the factory wrapped up shape perfectly no matter how you try to straighten it out. Maybe someone will buy it in my garage sale coming up. Sincerely written.

"Very Nice Coffee Maker"
Edit: June 2, 2008
Finding a KWF2 replacement water filter for this coffee maker at a reasonable price has turned out to be impossible. It's almost like Braun has decided to go another way and won't be supporting these coffee makers. If I could lower my 5 star review rating, I would. Anyway, it looks like I will start using the supplied adapter and water from my Brita filtered water pitcher when the original filter expires.

Original review:
These are my first impressions as I've only made 3 pots so far.

This coffee maker is easy to program, easy to operate, makes coffee very quickly. The carafe is a little smaller than most. It brews it hot and keeps it hot which helps maintain a drinkable temperature when chilled half and half is added. The coffee is very smooth and tasty.

It comes with a Braun KWF2 water filter that should be replaced every 70 brews. I believe they are priced around $5 apiece. The coffee maker comes with an adapter so it can operate without the water filter, but I think it makes better tasting coffee with it and also helps keep the lines ungunked. If these filters get too expensive or are hard to find, I have a Brita filtered pitcher and may just use water from that.

It comes with a reusable screen wire cone filter so that paper filters are not required. I plan on emptying the grounds immediately after brewing and rinsing the filter. This might not be required but I just don't thing all those wet grounds sitting in that fine mesh filter would be good for long term use. If the filter eventually becomes unusable, it can be replaced or paper filters can be used.

I'm very happy with this coffee maker. It blows my old Mr. Coffee away!

"Had to return this!!!"
Was excited to brew my first cup....Filter door would not stay shut...plastic got too hot on side and door kept swinging open during the brew...was a complete mess!

"Broken Already.."
With the exception of the filter basket mechanism being flimsy and fragile (already had to buy a replacement w/in 3 months use); this coffee maker made good and FAST coffee. I was satisfied with my purchase...until now. With little more than a year of usage, it no longer brews coffee. Don't think I be buying another Braun product; I'm going back to Krups, which had lasted years and years.

"Braun KF590 SL"
Excellent coffee maker. A few drawbacks....I have used a Braun coffee maker for approx. 20 years and love them, the only problem with this one is that you tend to spill if you pour to fast. It drips, like most do but I don't recall my old Braun's having this problem. The coffee is very hot and has great flavor as usual. Looks great and buttons are much improved and it is very easy to program. Other than getting used to pouring slower, I love this machine and will stick with Braun.

What our customer's say!

"Good coffee pot", Arrived quickly, as usual. The coffee maker is solidly built and easy to clean. I'd give it five stars, but I have two complaints: I'd prefer a 12 cup carafe and I'm not sure that I can find the special Brita filter it needs for water filtration locally.

"Braun KF590 better than most", Unfortunately, ours leaks when pouring, as did our previous coffeemaker which was a different brand. !!! I didn't expect that, based on reviews. Have to say the coffee is nice and hot, stays that way with the heating pad (we programmed to turn off after two hours) and it's easy to use. I only wish we could figure out why it drips when pouring. Also, we don't use the water filter since we have on in our sink.

I would give this another half star if it were available.

"Great Coffemaker!!!!", I purchased the Braun, with some skepticism, because all my other coffeemaker experiences have not beeen good ones, but I have to say this one was a pleasant surprise!! The Braun has been easy to use and clean, while making a hot, delicious and speedy cup of coffee. The filter takes a second to place, and I really enjoy the feature of being able pick a shutoff time, from 20 minutes to two hours. All in all I would recommend this coffeemaker to everyone.

"The Braun KF590 - Standard Design, Quality Control Issues, Silly Price", I was lucky enough to get this Braun KF590 Impressions Digital 10-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker on sale or else I might not have tried it. I actually am trying to replace my Braun KF510-BK AromaDeluxe 10-Cup Coffeemaker, Black. It's also just a basic drip coffee maker but has performed well. The bottom line was that I needed a timer, and this one has it while the 510 doesn't.

Well for starters, I was shocked to see how similar the two are. In fact all the design elements are identical except for the front panel with the clock and buttons. The 510 just has an red on/off switch there. Clearly, Braun is saving their research and development dollars for other products. Looking at all their coffeemakers in this family makes it clear they are sticking to the "if it aint broke, don't fix it" approach.

The only difference between this and the others in terms of looks is the stainless steel cover over the grinds area. It looks nice enough I guess.

The timer did work as expected. It's pretty intuitive, I believe that anybody could time it if they have used others. Still, I read the whole manual, as I always do, to make sure I got everything right. Nice features include the ability to change the auto-shutoff time.

But despite this tested design, there were some downsides. For starters, the plastic tab that holds the grinds reservoir closed seemed to be made from a slightly cheaper plastic than my old Braun. The result? This guy flung open at night, and I woke up to spilled hot water and no coffee. Very annoying. I tried taping it closed, but this didn't instill confidence in me for Braun's quality control.

Ok, I can give them the benefit of the doubt and say not every unit will have that defect. Needless to say, I had to return mine.

But after realizing this is basically a replica of the 510 with a clock and timer added, I had to wonder why the list price was $90? This is just too much for a basic coffee maker with a timer. The 510 is listed at $50 and sells for $40, which also seems high. Still, did they think adding a timer justified $40 or $50 more? Even the 590's prevailing price of $60 seems borderline high to me, but I could accept it if this unit was without flaws.

There are some minor flaws that seem the same as my old Braun. The reservoir does leak water if you move it at all after brewing, which is a minor annoyance. The steam does seem to escape from the top during brewing. And the carafe is designed so you have to pour very slowly or it will spill. Another minor issue, not a huge knock.

Still, after dealing with this first hand, I think there are better values to be had. For the price of this unit, I can get a low end grind and brew unit that will make fresher coffee.

For the black and steel look, it looks nice enough. As long as you know what you are getting, this might fit your needs.

Once again not a bad unit, but perhaps a little overpriced. And check yours well to make sure it's not defective.

Enjoy.

"This Braun make a strong, hot, cup of coffee", Have been using the Braun KF590 for two weeks now and have been very pleased. The coffeemaker looks sleek, takes up very little counter space and is easy to program. The cup markings on the side of the water tank are easy to read and are helpful when adding water to the tank. As with most coffee pots, this one does not really make ten cups of coffee since the average coffee mug is larger than four ounces. When making a pot for two people (two large mugs per person), I typically use nine scoops of dark roast ground coffee and add nine cups of water. It takes about ten minutes to brew and the coffee comes out strong and very hot. The filter basket is easy to open and remove for filling and/or cleaning. I am currently using the water filter that came with the pot but really don't notice any difference in the coffee flavor with the filter. Also, I prefer to use the #4 paper filter instead of the reusable mesh filter. I have not experienced any problem with spillage during pouring although you may want to pour a little slower when you are down to the last cup. This Braun so far is performing perfectly and hopefully will continue to do so for several more years.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Miss the Beep", Our old 12 cup Braun lasted for years, beeped when brewing was complete (a welcome sound while laying in bed) which was a nice touch. This machine works well, easy to program, brews good coffee quickly, and looks good. No Beep, and only makes 10 cups. Sounds trivial but it does make a difference. And if you pour at a slower rate, there is no drip, as other reveiws have stated. If this machine lasts 2-3 years, it will have been a good investment. And I have no reason to doubt it will.

"Braun digital 10-cup coffeemaker", Love the coffeemaker. However, Braun needs to redesign the decanter. It spills too easily when you pour a cup.

"Nothing ever stays the same.....", I am so unhappy with the dripping carafe, the over-fill hole in the back of the storage tank and lukewarm coffee. I needed to replace my Braun KF185 FlavorSelect 12 cup coffeemaker and thought since it lasted forever, I would continue with a new Braun KF590 and even bought 12 extra water filters and a replacement carafe (just in case). What a disappointment! Brand spanking new out of the box and I needed to use it immediately for weekend guests. After getting everything washed & ready with a new water filter I thought maybe I had poured the water into the reservoir too quickly from the carafe as it splashed all over the counter. No, it did the same thing when I poured freshly brewed coffee into the cup. Unless you pour it very slowly, the carafe dribbles all over the place. What a way to ruin beautiful table linens! I had already tossed the box or I would have returned it. I even went so far as to email Braun directly and I received the following reply....."Thank you for sharing your disappointment with our product. Our goal is to produce high quality products that consistently delight our consumers and I'm sorry this wasn't your experience. Please be assured I'm sharing your comments with the rest of our team. Please do try to pour slowly and evenly with the carafe as this will help with the spillage. Thanks again for writing. P&G Team". Bummer! Braun won't miss me as a customer.

"Braun #2", I bought this product as a replacement for the same coffee maker that lasted at least 9 years. It makes hot and great tasting coffee each time and it's fast. The carafe is sturdy with a very comfortable handle and the lid comes off for easy cleaning. I give this a 'thumbs up' all the way!

"Best Coffee Maker ", I spent a month reviewing different drip coffee makers and ordered this model from Amazon. Works great. I realised after reading dozens of reviews that the people who have over flow problems with their makers, regardless of models, are using fine coffee grounds. Doye!

A drip maker needed coarse grounds, not super fine grounds, or else it will clog your drip valve and spill hot water all over your counter. I would recommend people to grind their own beans if possible, this will help with optimum freshness.

So after 8 months of consistent use, here are my observations:

The programmable feature is fabulous. The flavor is good and the water comes out nice and hot. There's the filter that I rinse and put right back. All the parts that you want to wash are removable, quickly and without any fuss. I'm thinking about getting a better flavor by using a paper filter in addition to the regular metal filter. I highly recommend this item.
