Others say...

"Drains great..."
This colander drains extremely fast, but still keeps thin items like angel hair pasta from catching in the holes. It's stainless, so it cleans up nicely. I'd give it a 5, but I was a bit disappointed that it had welded rather than riveted handles. I thought I'd get riveted at that price, but maybe I'm out of touch with reality. 5 stars for drainability, one star reduction for the handles.

"Best Colander Ever"
Right after I placed my order I saw a set of 3 colanders for $10 @ an outlet center & thought I was getting ripped off if the one from Amazon turned out to be the same as one of them @ 3x the price. Well, a few days later I got mine & I'm glad to say it's not the same. The set was nothing more than cheap mesh strainers with a base & handles that felt like they would fall off after a few uses.

This feels as solid as anything with this many holes can. Sure, it won't be as tough as my old one. It was solid, had the normal amount of holes, and after shaking, tilting, and jumping the contents, always seemed to have a cup of liquid left. That's only a little better than just tilting it over the sing with a lid on the pot. The holes are small enough that nothing goes through & within seconds (and just a shale or two) everything is almost bone dry.

I love Alton Brown, but I never liked the plastic Oxo colander he uses because the slots are too big & I'm just not a fan of plastic if the same job can be done by steel as it's easier to clean & won't stain.

"A very good product"
This product is well made, has a good solid feel, and drains food of any kind quickly and efficiently. Foods with a fine consistency, such as rice, won't slip through the small openings. It's worth the slightly higher cost compared to other colanders.

"A simple piece of equipment with an elegant design that does its job right every time"
I have owned several metal or plastic colanders before, but this one beats them all. Put simply, it just works. You can even drain boiled rice in this colander without losing a good portion of your grains down the drain, and without having to wait for the water to slowly drip out of tiny holes. The holes are small enough to trap even the smallest items, but there are so many of them that water literally rushes right out the bottom and sides. I love it.

"Best Colander"
My twenty something son moved to his own place recently and surprised me by asking about our colander! He said the one his roommate had "wasn't as good as ours!" Imagine a young man even noticing! So here I am ordering one for him!

What our customer's say!

"Drains the water not the spaghetti", After suffering with a cheap plastic colander for years that let spaghetti escape along with the water, I tossed it and bought this. WOW what a difference, no pasta escapes and it drains out the water instantly. I read the recommendation for this colander in Cook's Illustrated and boy were they right!

"THE BEST!!!", Short and sweet...this has got to be the best colander on Earth! Drains almost instantly, extremely well-made, and beautiful. Buy it, period!

"The Best Colander I have ", This is one beautiful colander. It's nice and sturdy and easy to clean but, I would strongly recommend drying it completely after washing to keep it looking good. I really like those handles too." I'm seriously thinking about ordering another one. This is the best colander I have. It sure beats those plastic ones and the food does not get caught in the holes like it does on some other ones. Cook's Illustrated was right on about this one and even though it is rather expensive, it's worth the money in quality and looks. I hope they decide to make a larger one.

"WHat more could you ask for?", ... as the title suggests, this is the end-all of colanders. Very speedy in draining, which when you are blanching and cold shocking vegetables, or draining a delicate pasta, speed is of the essence. The number of holes in this colander rapidly drains any liquid and it's also perfect for straining a slurry or other thicker-than-water concoction.

"Endurance pierced colander", I am pleased with the drainage without small pieces of foods escaping and with the very stable base. The handles are OK, but I would have preferred more secure attachment of the handles than what look like small spot welds.

"A colander that drains", This is a fairly sturdy colander. The best part is that water drains very well from it.

"Cook's Illustrated was right!", This colander is everything one could want. Sturdy and the holes are the right size for many purposes. Highly recommended!

"Precision stainless steel colander", This colander has about 50% open space, compared with about 5% for a typical aluminum one. It therefore drains quickly, and because the holes are small spaghetti will not try to escape. Despite what Emeril says this colander is a better bet than a boiler/strainer pasta cooker, unless you are cooking a huge amount.

"Love it, but... it's a "dammed" thing.", Even though it drains quickly and stuff doesn't get caught in the perforations, there's one thing I wish they would change on this colander. The base is a solid piece of circular metal, so the water that flows out of most of the holes ends up accumulating in the sink instead of going down the drain. (I hope that makes sense the way I've described it.) If you've got a giant sink that lets you place this NEXT to the sink drain instead of on top of it, maybe this won't be a problem for you. But I've got a double sink and the colander pretty much has to perch right above the drain because there's not a lot of room. Not fun when you're pouring out a bunch of hot pasta water! I wish the base had four sturdy FEET instead of a solid circle. When they make it that way, I'll give it five stars. :)

"Perfect for small pastas", You get a clean, quick drain with this colander
because there are a lot of small holes. So small
pasta sizes like orzo and pastina don't fall through.
You also get a fast drain-especially handy when
you want to drain the pasta and return it
immediately to the pot to be finished in a sauce.

The handle attachments do seem flimsy and at this
price, they ought not to be. But as long as it stays
in one piece, it'll be hanging near my sink.
