Others say...
"Love it!" After searching high and low for an electric water kettle that wasn't made of plastic, I finally came across the Capresso. I was hesitant to buy it at first because of the few negative reviews I read here regarding bad tasting water, possible plastic, and a bad smell. I finally went ahead with the purchase after a fruitless search for an alternative. I'm glad I did! This kettle is wonderful. It heats the water up very quickly and I've had no problems with bad tasting water or a bad smell. Though the lid is plastic, the heating element at the bottom of the pot is clearly stainless steel, not plastic. I heartily recommend the Capresso. "Fool proof Capresso Tea Kettle" To prevent the repeat offense of turning on the kettle and walking away, I happily ordered the Glass Capresso Tea Kettle. It's terrific. The only thing one needs to be careful of is making sure you keep the water level above the 2 cup minimum. It's pretty and very quick. I highly recommend it. "Capresso Attractive, Safe and quick" The Capresso clear glass teakettle is one of my favorite purchases. It boils water quickly and safely by automatically shutting off. You can set it and forget it without worrying. It also makes an attractive addition to my counter. "I love it!" I use this several times every day to make tea, coffee, etc. It's faster than boiling water on the stove and I can see how much water is in the kettle, so I boil only what is needed. I have not had a problem with steam on my hand while pouring which was mentioned in reviews of the older version. Automatic shutoff is invaluable. "I love it" It's a pleasure to look at (especially as the water is bubbling), boils water at lightning speed, pours nicely and has room under the base to wrap extra cord. The measurement lines on the side of the handle are easy enough to see but don't distract from it's good looks. This is the first electric tea kettle that I have owned and I can't believe that I went so long without one. I have not noticed any odor at all as some other reviewers have reported and I am very sensitive to odors. I've owned this for about 6 months and I hope it lasts for a very long time!

What our customer's say! "FAST AND ATTRACTIVE IN THE KITCHEN", This kettle is great. 3 1/2 minutes for 5 cups of boiling water. Its also fun gazing at the liquid bubbles as they start to float off the metal dome in the bottom of the pot. I've had no problems with this pot including any smell or steam or pouring problems. A great high quality kettle. No electric kettle in the U.S. will boil water as fast as those in the U.K....they have a different electrical supply system which generates power at a higher rate (their kettles can boil water in about 1-2 minutes) Oh its also attractive on my counter. "my second one", After years and years of hard use, my initial Capresso kettle had problem with the thermostat. I'll play with it when i find tim but in the meantime, I had to have another. I miss the shiny chrome finish on the original, but this does what it's supposed to do...heat water and automatically shut off. The fact that it's so pretty was a big selling feature. "Yuck - Tastes like Plastic", The heating element of this kettle is covered with plastic. When the water is heated it tastes like plastic. It is one of only a few items I have ever bought that I returned. It does look cool when it boils, but it is not worth it. Save your time and money and buy a stainless steel water kettle. "Rubber/silicone washer around the heating element boils with water and emits foul smell: Dangerous Product!!!", This is, indeed, an awesomely designed kettle, unrivaled by any. A glass kettle is just a brilliant design. But it has a serious design flaw. The heating element is like half a metal ball that protrudes from the bottom of the kettle. In order to place the glass kettle around it and seal it, they use a silicone/rubber washer. This is what causes the foul smell. I cannot believe how people can simply fail to understand that even if the smell goes away, the chemicals emitted in the water do not! And I cannot understand why people are giving manufacturers such an easy time and not look after their own health. Saddest thing, this is the easiest flaw to fix. Instead of a glass bottom, they should have had a stainless steel bottom that could fuse seamlessly with the heating element. The bottom could form a short rim up the sides of the kettle, and the glass could be fitted into this metal base. This would still require some material to seal the glass into the metal, but at least it would not be so exposed to the boiling water. Anyway, they need to rethink this. Back to the store it goes--though it matched oh so well with my awesome Bodum Kona all glass coffee drip maker. What a pity.... The Hamilton Beach 10 cup is my next choice (available through the manufacturer, though not Amazon. "Beautiful but Slightly Disappointed", Almost all the electric kettles on the market have some sort of plastic attached much too close to the area where the water is boiled. I was extremely excited to find an electric kettle that didn't have a plastic interior or any obvious plastic attached to the spout. I bought one immediately. To my disappointment, there was a rubber ring for the base where the metal part boiled the water met the glass bottom. This wash is also used for on-the-go coffee mugs/decanters. Despite this character flaw, I boiled some water, I used reverse osmosis water and the water came out, tasting pretty good. I suggest the first 3 boils be tossed out. I'm still keeping it though, it's one of the better ones on the market and I've given up hunting. Perhaps I'll reconvert to an old fashioned kettle, if I can't stand my new toy's single flaw. Oh yeah, it looks gorgeous on my counter, next to my standing mixer. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Lovely kettle!", When I finally made the transition from a traditional kettle to an electric one, I reviewed several products before finally settling on this one. I've been using it for a few months now and I am amazed by the speed in which it heats water. What took several minutes now takes seconds (I only heat enough water for 1-2 cups of tea) and I love the look of this kettle. Definitely a keeper! "Exactly what I wanted", I visited a friend in England and came back wanting an electric tea kettle as nice a hers. This is the closest I could find and it's pretty close. The clear body is elegant and practical. The unit functions and powers down quietly. The water boils in just a few minutes. My favorite feature, though, is the 360 degree base so I can pick it up and set it down from any angle. I highly recommend the Capresso Glass Water Kettle. "Great", Holy Cow, I'm pleasantly, as in exetremely, pleased with this carafe. I use it for tea, my wife uses it for coffee or whenever she needs hot water in the kitchen. Being able to see the water through the glass body lets you judge the water temp and turn it off before it boils if you don't want water that hot. I highly recommend this item because, as I say.... mine works great. "excellent water kettle", I think this is a beautifully designed kettle, and it works just as fast as my all metal ones. It is easy to see how much water is in the pot and how fast it is boiling. I would buy this as a gift any time. "Pretty But Doesn't Work", I had bought one of these a few years ago, and it burned out pretty fast. Then Capresso took them off the market since there were so many problems. Now, I see it back on and think they must have solved the problems. It's such a beautiful kettle I tried it again. When you boil water, water leaks from the base, not the spout. That can't be good. Then I thought well that's not the worse thing. Then after about three weeks of using it, I started to smelling something burning and knew it was going to die. Lastly, if you have hard water, the metal heater turns white immediately. You have to use Durgol to clean it everyday to keep it shiny. Don't waste your money. ![]() |
