"Decent coffee maker if you know how to fix it"
First off, contrary to some other reviews, this coffee maker looks great, the clock and timer are perfectly adequate, it does get hot enough (and has a hot-plate temperature control that actually works - I keep it hot in the winter and slightly less hot in the summer), and it brews a great pot of coffee.

Now for the bad. This model has a nasty habit of getting its outgoing tube (from the water reservoir to the heater under the hot plate) disconnected. I can think of at least three times (the third being earlier tonight when I filled the reservoir with a full carafe of water) when the brew cycle inexplicably leaks water all over the counter and the pot gets only partially full. To fix this, all you have to do is drain all the water, remove the carafe and basket, tip the unit on its side, unscrew the base, and reach in a reattach the plastic tube to the bottom of the reservoir. Granted, this is a real pain but it works. From the reviews of the Kitchen-Aid 12-cup maker, sounds like that unit has the same problem.

Oh, and don't even bother using the water filter on top. It only gets in the way if you have a full basket of coffee and the filters are pointless. I began to use the one that came in the box and then laughed when the instructions said to replace the water filter every thirty days!! At 3-4 dollars each, you'll break the bank before you know it.

"Best Caraf design, ever"
Mr. Coffee FTX21 12-Cup Programmable CoffeemakerI thought that there was no better coffee maker than a BUNN. I was wrong. The Mr.Coffee FTX21 12-cup programmable coffeemaker has all the features that I've been looking for and some I didn't know were available. The clock/timer is easy to set, the auto-shutoff after 2 hours is great for peace of mind. It doesn't constantly use power keeping unnecessary water hot. But the best feature of all is the caraf. It is the ONLY one I have ever seen that won't drip when you pour your coffee. The only problem that I have with it is the frequency of the signal I broadcasts when it is done brewing that perfect coffee and also when it is shutting off. But that is just in the range of hearing lost that is normal for folks my age and that's not their fault. Too much loud music, I guess. Anyway, I love it and thank Mr.Coffee for making it half as expensive as a Bunn, too.

"Wish it were better"
This product looks good and has some thoughtful features like the brew strength switch, temperature dial, and timer. But after having it for barely a year, I'm very disappointed with how it's holding up. A critical spring part of the filter basket broke (they were kind enough to send a replacement), I can't remove the carafe during brewing, it seems to leak at times, and the finish on the heating element has already burned away revealing ugly bare metal. Prior to this, I had a Krups that was still going strong after 20 years.

When I replace this -- and that may be soon -- it won't be with a Mr. Coffee.

"Not Bad for the $$-- a few annoyances"
Our last coffeepot didn't warm the coffee at all so I had to microwave my coffee after it finished brewing. So when I purchased this coffeepot my standards were pretty low. Overall it does the trick, I've had no issues with it leaking so far (have owned for over a year now). I don't like the auto-shut off after 2 hours and there is no way to turn that off. If I want to keep the coffee warm for longer I have to basically push the Brew Now button again. Which brings me to the second annoying thing about this coffee maker...the 5 long loud beeps telling me it's ready. Again...there is no way to turn this off.

What our customer's say!

"Stay Far Away", I guess if I had to sum up one phrase for this series of cofffee makers from Mr. C is "Abysmal".

Why the FTC hasn't brought them to court over this design is beyong me. All one needs to do is look on Amazon at the reviews and the only good ones you'll see are people who reviewed them after a handful of pots. Had reviews come from those who owned for a year or more (IF they lasted that long) you'd see a far different story.

First, the thing is a fire hazard. I realize thats a strong accusation and I don't make it lightly. Of the 3 (yes, three...I'm a sucker) all had an issue where the water leaked into the switch and/or element area causing it to short out. It will also leak through the hotplate seams into the lower area where the electrical components are. While Mr. Coffee claims the warranty their product, the hoops you have to jump through make it not worth the effort.

Keep in mind this applies to this series of coffee makers only (you can tell by the similar designs). I've owned other M.C. products that were fine. unfortunately corporate suits care more about losing money on short term warranty issues than keeping satisfied customers or making a quality product. This product shows exactly why we in the US are losing all our business to china. We SUCK at making hard-goods. Period.

"Bought it as a Gift", I bought this for my mom and she loves it. It not only makes 12 cups (she is an avid coffee drinker) is is very stylish. It is a great product for the cost.

"15 months of coffee", I had an original Mr coffee maker for almost 15 years and never had a problem until with age it just wore out; bought this new Mr. Coffee 12 cup with all the bells and whistles and woke up this morning to no timed coffee. It just plain didn't work, and only after 15 months, one tenth the time; seems to me that I should have been able to expect to have the same Quality of that first old machine in the new one. I will never buy a Mr. coffee maker again and if you heed the warnings, neither will you!!

"Do not buy this coffeemaker", Our daughter gave this coffeemaker to us for Christmas...lots of nice features and makes good coffee, but in less than 2 months it completely quit working. Evidently steam gets into the electronics - you would think they would take that into account when making a coffeemaker. It did start working again after it sat & dried out for a week, but it only works if you remove basket & open lid immediately after brewing. Now it won't process all the water through, so I followed instructions for cleaning & guess what?... electronics steamed up and quit working again. All in all - a worthless piece of xxxx!

"The best coffee maker I've had so far", I got this coffee maker for my birthday three years ago. i just threw it out yesterday because it stopped making the perfect cup of coffee, and the paint on the burner plate started peeling off. Up until about 6 months ago I could leave the coffee on for the full 2 hours and the coffee still tasted fresh. Now the coffee tastes burnt after 45 minutes, with the burner-plate dial on the lowest position(I think the dial might not work anymore). It's easy to use, easy to clean. My only complaint about the clean cycle is that I have to run another full pot of water through to get the vinegar taste out- you should probably spend the extra bucks to get the Mr.Coffee cleaner. This definitely makes better coffee than proctor-silex or other cheaper brands, but not as good as say cuisinart.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"They Gotta Do Better than This", I'm a coffee lover & spent years trying to find a way to make a perfect cup of java. My downfall is I'm also frugal. That came back to haunt me when, knowing which coffee makers do it right, I thought I would save $20.00 & buy the Mr. Coffee for my workplace thinking surely this manufacturer had gotten its act together by now. This does make an ok cup, but you have to use twice the amount of grounds as a Krupps & it still lacks the rich flavor that a Krupps is capable of. Why, you may ask, would that be? Mr. Coffee insists on sticking with a broad & flat-bottomed filter container, which runs less water over all the grounds than a Krupps, which has a V-shaped filter that forces all the water through a column of grounds. The result is a Krupps can make a perfectly flavored cup with half the amount of grounds and do it in 1/3 the time than a Mr. Coffee. I'm sorry I tried to save the $20.00. I will say this about the Mr. Coffee... At least they threw in the gold mesh filter for free, which used to come standard with a Krupps, but now they're too cheap to give you one & they're not all that easy to find as an after-market item. Krupps should make & sell their own like they used to. Secondly, this Mr. Coffee has some good features that other coffee makers should have come up with a long time ago: a large readable clock and a cleaning cycle.

"I concur--this coffee maker stinks", This is the worst coffee maker I have ever owned. We bought it less than a year ago, and have had every single problem listed in the other reviews.

1. Makes terrible coffee
2. Pause n serve broke
3. Leaks
4. Brew timer has never worked.

This is the last Mr. Coffee I will ever buy.

"Worst coffeepot ever ", I wish I had read the reviews here on Amazon before making this purchase (at a local Target). This coffeepot is the pits--it takes over an hour to brew, loses around 4 cups of water due to all of the steam, and oftentimes simply shuts itself off during the brew cycle. It also has quite a bit of a leaking problem. Very disappointing.

"Quit concurrent with the Warranty expiration", We bought the previous model, and only used it for two pots per week (one one sat and one on sunday, go figure) and while it worked fine for that purpose, thirteen months after purchase, it died. Turn it on, it comes on for a minute, then the lights fade out and "click"..... dead... The big dissapointment? A one year warranty, so it is off to buy a replacement.

If one were conspiracy minded one would have thought the clock was not only tracking daily time, but also counting down warranty balance....

Now the big question? Go cheap and plan to replace annually or go more expensive with hopes of more reliability.

"Attractive but Low Quality Product", I'm accustomed to the disposable state of things so the fact that this coffee maker lasted me nearly 3 years trouble free is acceptable. The unit has dropped in price substantially since it's first release making it an attractive low price alternative. I have no complaints about the features, the quality of the coffee it produced, or its durability. I have never known a Mr. Coffee pot that outperformed a Cuisinart or Krupps machine but this machine is adequate and easier to use with more controllable features. Mr. Coffee is usually the value option instead of the quality choice.

I replaced it with a Cuisinart grind and brew machine after it started developing leaks. The coffee is hotter on the Cuisinart, but beyond the grinding function, I miss this machine's ease of programming, cleaning simplicity, and backlit clock.

I have noticed that the newer units have lower quality materials, such as the fact that the stainless steel shower head is now replaced with a plastic system.

Overall, my only complaint is that the coffee wasn't hot enough. Otherwise it worked normally until small leaks developed a few months ago.
