"Rowenta Iron"
Good product. Good price. Retractable cord is a good feature. Easy to use and reliable.

"Anything to make a buck"
I have previously owned a Rowenta iron, which was made in Germany and worked flawlessly every time. Unfortunately, after a couple years of heavy use, the unit would no longer power -- at all. I replaced it with the $60 Rowenta Effective DX1900, the item featured here. Because I thought highly of the brand, I never noticed until after I took the unit home that this one was made in China. I was disappointed. For the price, I could have saved some money with another cheap unit also made in China. Rather than return the unit, I decided to keep it to see how long it would last. After just a couple months, the iron is basically useless. The safety auto-off switch is faulty, so every five seconds I have to tap the unit in just the right place and with just the right amount of force to resume heating. Forget just a gentle tilt like my previous unit.

All in all, I am disappointed with Rowenta more than this specific product. I feel betrayed, as though the company has traded in quality to make an extra buck.

"Worst Iron I've Ever Purchased!"
I iron a LOT....Once a week I stand for 4 - 5 hrs. and do all of my ironing at once. Have done this for 30 years and really do like to iron. However, when it was time to replace my old iron, I decided to spend a little more and get the Rowenta because of all the great things I have heard about this brand. Well...I hate the stupid thing!!! When I first purchased it, I could iron for ten minutes before the thing would shut off. No amount of shaking, rattling, moving in any position would make it go back on. I would have to unplug it and then plug it back in. This happened EVERY ten minutes (I timed it). Now it's doing the same thing every 1 minute.
If you are thinking about purchasing this iron, I would suggest that you just save your money and buy something less expensive.
BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

"Love this iron!"
I'm not sure why some people seem to be having difficulty with this iron - I love it! Everything on it works as it's supposed to. I love that I can hold the iron vertically and have it produce steam. The cord retracts quite easily. If you are having issues with fabrics sticking to the iron plate, please lower the setting on your iron! This iron works exactly the way it is supposed to - a very high quality piece of equipment!!

"Piece of Junk"
I hate this iron. The steam button won't stay in place and keeps sliding to the "Off" position. Plus, after about three uses, the entire top cover came off. Gee, it's made in China, what a surprise. Don't buy this piece of junk.

What our customer's say!

"Ironing not a chore anymore!", After using the same iron I received as a shower gift over ten years ago I decided to upgrate. Wow, what a difference a better iron makes. Wrinkles disappear on the first swipe. Steam is everywhere. The iron just easily glides over the clothes. Cannot over-recommend Rowenta or this product, as it is just great. Worth the purchase.

"Great iron, if it only worked correctly", This iron was a great product, even though I already had to replace the one I bought in December with this newer one. Now this one is doing the exact same thing - the auto-shut off button engages. Even though the iron is not sitting more than 15-20 seconds, just long enough to adjust the shirt or other item on the ironing board to continue ironing. We lose heat. We unplug it, it heats up again and shuts off promptly with the red light flashing. Unfortunately, I am going to buy a Black and Decker, GE, or whatever gives me longer than 3 months of service. I tried.

"Effective iron...just like it's name!", I bought this iron (through Macy's) after using cheaper irons. This Rowenta iron is the best iron I've EVER used! It is worth paying a little extra for this iron. The steam works great and ironing is much quicker with it...I love it!

"Save your money ", The iron has several drawbacks. The first two involve the retractable cord. The snap back of the cord has injured me and my kitchen cabinets because of the speed and the whiplash effect. The cord attachment angle is such that the cord falls under the bottom of the iron when placing it upright on the board. Thus, after ironing a section, an awkward twirl of the wrist is required to set the iron firmly on the board. Therefore, the retractable cord is neither safe nor ergonomically sound.

The second area of drawbacks is the shutoff feature. The iron shuts off after about 30 seconds whether the iron is upright or in its slanted holder attached to my board. To heat it again, I have to tilt it up and tilt it down and then wait for it to reheat. A time waster and also not good ergonomics.

The third area of drawbacks is the steam function. The iron steams only at the highest temperature setting and does not steam for very long. In order to produce steam again, the iron must shutoff and then turn on again.

I'm in the market for a new iron. Anyone know of a good one?

"designed to malfunction?", I decided to spend a little more on an iron that would last. I thought Rowenta had a good reputation. At first, I loved ironing with this iron. It made the chore of ironing easier and more fun. I've had it about a year now, and it has gone from spotty to extremely aggravating and consistently malfunctioning. After a few weeks it would unpredictably stop maintaining temperature, and got worse and worse over the year. I realized that the automatic shut off was being activated spontaneously, and nothing I could do would keep it hot. I even read the manual. I gave up and bought a black and decker.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Was nice the first time", The handle is a bit tight and on the second use the cord retract broke. Other than that it has irons well. I'll stick with Panasonic which worked flawlessly for over eight years (along with the cord retract).

"Great Iron at a Great Price", I had read some great reviews of this iron and some not so great. I'm glad that so far this iron is all that the positive reviews suggested.

"so far so good, rowenta dx1900", it irons very well...a bit heavy. the steam is good. my daughter had one and had problems with the reel cord, but it was replaced and it is fine now. i hope to have to for a long time.

"water leak", We owned a Rowenta for almost 1.5 years then the heater that produces steam burned up and the iron quit working. We liked the Rowenta so we bought this iron. On the second day this iron started leaking water all over the place. The water was coming out of the cord retraction area. Poor craftsmanship or I got a lemon.

"I thought these were supposed to be good!", My 20 year old iron finally died six months ago. Does anyone even remember when things were made to last? Anyway, I did a little research, and read some good things about a Rowenta, so I bought one of these. The cord rewinder stopped working within 2 weeks. It would wind up half of the cord, and then stop. Then it started leaking. Water started dripping down the cord. Then it was water mixed with some sort of oil (it did a great job of getting black drips on white shirts). I learned NOT to rewind the cord at all, because the chamber that held the cord was coated in some oily mixture that got on the cord and then got whatever it touched black!

I bought this item in late September of 2006. Today, it won't even turn on. The light is on but it won't get hot or even warm. I've done everything, replug it in, switch outlets, leave it unplugged for awhile and re-plug it in...nothing works. It's not quite 6 months old!

I'm going out to buy a new iron, and it WON'T be a Rowenta!
