Others say...
"Sunbeam Hot Shot" This is a great time and energy saver when you need a cup or 2 of boiling water. Only 1 negative but it comes into play every time I use it: Unlike the older model, the cup area is too short for very tall mugs, and when dispensing, you can't tell when a mug is full because the top of the mug is too close to the dispenser. If you need that functionality, try to find the older model... it's taller and white. "Additional point" I came here to write essentially what Elliot wrote below -- the Hot Shot product description does not seem to indicate vertical space for your mug, and the photos do not really show scale. So if you have a tall mug or thermos and do not feel comfortable modifying your Hot Shot, you might want to consider other options. (However, it does come apart with a screwdriver so all you really have to do is mount it to something taller). The point about not plugging it in before pressing the power switch is correct -- for the first use, that is. The device shuts itself off when it finishes, and you can actually leave it plugged in at that point. At least, this is what I've been doing for the past week since I first got it and I'm still happy. One final comment: If you're in a hurry, be sure to contact the third-party seller if you can before ordering this product. Amazon showed it in stock when I had placed my order a while back, and it took the third-party (Polsteins Home & Beyond) over a week to inform me that they did actually not have any in stock. "This replaced my old Hot Shot" Great product! I've owned one of these for probably 5 years, and I go through 10-15 cups of tea a day (at least!) I have no complaints about my old one wearing out- it still heated water just fine, but had slowed a bit over the years, and the plastic grommet at the dispenser hole developed a leak. Bought a second one for our summer home too! "Quick and convenient" My wife and I have used the Sunbeam "Hot Shot" for quite a few years now. It's just the two of us, and my wife cannot drink regular coffee. This makes the Hot Shot a very handy item to have. You can heat anywhere from a regular coffee cup sized portion up to a travel mug sized portion in less than a minute, making "instant" coffee truly instant. It's a great little product, and we'd recommend it to any one. "2nd time owner. Disappointed because of the plastic taste" I owned one 10 years ago and it was great. I decided to get one again because I am a big tea drinker of expensive Taiwanese high mountain tea. I am so disappointed with the new model because the plastic taste is so strong that it completely changed the taste of my tea. I have been cleaning the unit with vinegar and baking soda and now the odor is about 50-60% less, but I can't accept any weird taste in my expensive tea!. If I can't fix this in a week then it is going back to Amazon. This product will heat up water fast but don't get it if you can't tolerate weird taste in water.

Sunbeam 6131 Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser
Why I buy this one ? - Sunbeam Hot Shot Hot Water Dispenser In Black - Hot Pot - 6131 What our customer's say! "Sunbeam Hot Shot", Great item for heating small amounts of water in a hurry. The hot pot takes up very little room on the counter. It heats a cup of water in about 60 seconds. Does a excellant job for cups of soup, tea, or any instant hot beverage. Also a good way to pre-heat water that will be used for cooking a small amount of pasta. Good Value. "Excellent product", Works even better than stated. Heats in approximayely 25 seconds (faster than the 90 seconds claimed). This my thrid Hot Shot. I now have one in three different houses. I highly recommend this product. "Love this product", I love this product and couldn't survive without it. I bought one for my mom and she feels the same way. We have one in the kitchen, 5th wheeler, mini-camper, office and my husband has one at work. All of mine are still working, I just move the oldest unit to a not as popular place. The last unit I purchased because I needed a black one because of the changes made in my kitchen....but could never find one locally....small town until it showed up on Amazon. Thank you!! "Great!!", This product is excellent. Just what I was looking for and the auto shut off is one of the best features. "Outstanding gift for college bound student...", Can't boil water? The Sunbeam Hot Shot will ensure the survival of even the most inept young adult - yes, all it does is boil about 2 cups of water, but that is what the kids need. Make your coffee, tea, hot cocoa, ramen, mac & cheese...without the size and complication of a microwave and without the danger of the traditional hot pot. I've given these as gifts to graduating high school seniors for several years now; throw in a few bucks for the ramen and now the kids will eat for a month! Also, I've checked many college websites for prohibited items, and have never found the Hot Shot on any list. You should of course do your own checking before sending any item off to college. For the $, this is an excellent appliance; it lasts a long time if used as recommended. I've had mine for 5 years, no problems. Coffee, made fresh every time with a Melitta cone filter - delicious! Buy one now!! ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "in hot water", with as much tea as my sister and I drink it saves a tremendous amount of eletric. it does not take much counter space and is quick. it is also wonderfull for things like cup o noodles and hot coco. "Great even for the Valley of the sun.", This product heats quickly. It is also small enough to keep on the counter in the cooler months and easy to store when it is 120. The button did snap off after a month of use but was snapped back on with a little effort. "It taste of plastic. Period.", I wished it didn't and I have come to realize it isn't just me because others (many) have said the same thing. Tonight I did a taste test with water from the unit, the microwave and heated in a pot. Of course, all things aren't equal; however, this unit definitely tasted of plastic. It was far worse when I first got it but I kept using it hoping it would stop. It smells of plastic and taste of plastic and doesn't seem to be going away. So, I'm looking for alternatives, which is a real shame because this thing heats 16 ounces of water faster than anything I have tried. "Simple is better", We've had one of these for years and used it almost daily. When it came time to replace it, we were glad to see it was still made. In fact, it actually has been improved by moving the power switch to the back of the top, rather than on the front, where it could get bumped and activated before water was added. We got two this time, one for the kitchen, one for the camper. We'll see if they last the 10+ years that the first one did. We'll probably get a few more to give as gifts. Great little product. "I love my Hot Shot", I had one while in college (many, many years ago) and it was a necessity of life. I now keep one in my office. I'm trying to ween myself off of coffee and am able to use it to brew tea in the morning. I also use it for instant oatmeal and cup of soup when i don't have time to take a lunch. The water is heated and ready to go within 1 minute. This little guy is a life saver for me. ![]() |
