Others say...
"Not worth the money" I've had this unit for about a year and simply stated, it's been disappointing. The cafafe is cheaply made and the handle moves around at will. The coffee simply isn't hot enough when freshly brewed and it doesn't get hot enough. The water tank overflows if you don't pour slowly enough and I hated replacing the stupid charcoal water filters. I took the charcoal water filter out and it was easier to add water. Filter your water ahead of time and forget the charcoal filters in this coffee maker and you'll be better off. Having to move the filter basket from right to left in order for the unit to brew is a pain because the filter parts have to be perfectly in place and perfectly lined up or it won't move. Those parts can be really fussy and if you aren't patient or somewhat mechanically inclined, you'll be aggravated. Don't try it with a hang over!!The "fill and forget" coffee bean canister on the top is a nice feature but it's not a nice enough feature to make up for all the short comings and the long price on this unit. This unit works OK but it's cheaply made, overpriced at $200 and it has too many weird quirks to recommend it to anyone. "Great cup of coffee!" I was given this machine as a birthday gift, and am very pleased with it. It does what it's supposed to do, and that is make a great cup of coffee! Here are the pro's and con's as I see them: Pro's Nice grind, EASY TO CLEAN!, internal charcoal filter for water, bean storage, great cup of coffee Con's Difficult to see the settings emphasis (icons), took some time to program, really tall (doesn't fit on counter under cabinet), mechanical moving parts to wear out, pretty expensive I think it's a bit over priced, but hey, what the cost of going to Starbuck's every day? :-) "Makes the best coffee..." This coffee pot carries a hefty price tag, but for serious coffee drinkers it is well worth it. Before purchasing this pot, my husband and I were using a more cumbersome system of using a separate burr grinder and coffee pot - which included the mess of pouring the freshly ground coffee into a filter basket. Sometimes grounds spilled on the counter, but mostly, despite our efforts the quality of the coffee varied a great deal from pot to pot. This system allows you to select the number of cups and the strength of the coffee. Admittedly, we like very strong coffee. This pot did not disappoint - it consistently makes fabulous coffee. Grounds never spill out on the counter. Also, the system is very easy to program for pot size, strength, time, and timer. There are just two slightly negative points for this pot. The first is that the ginding chamber doesn't hold quite as much coffee beans as we would like, but does adequately make quite a few pots before needing to be refilled - oh, and by the way, it is very easy to refill. The other negative, is that if you have a full pot of coffee, you need to pour the first cup very, very slowly - if you don't, coffee spills out over the sides and onto your counter. Despite these issues, the system still rates high. All in all, this is the best coffee system we have ever had. "Nice Brew" Took quite a while to find the optimum settings, but once I did, I love this grinder. Easy to clean, not overly noisy like some grind and brews. The burr grinder really does a great job. I do wish the settings for flavor/strength were a bit more granular though. It seemed to be one extreme or the other, and eventually, had to go with less water too, so best I can get out of it is 8 cups, at the strength I like. It really is a good brewer though. Definitely worth the money. "Great cup of coffee" Purchased this coffee maker after extensive research and have not been disappointed. This is an easy to use maker that produces extra hot coffee. The coffee maker itself seems "flimsy" for the price but does what it is supposed to do. Definitely the best coffee maker I have ever owned.

What our customer's say! "More than a little disappointed", For about 5 years I owned a Krups dual (coffee and espresso) and after frequent use it finally passed way. Friends who owned a coffee bar in Oregon recommended a Capresso for my espresso needs, and I figured that if that machine was great, that the coffee maker shouldn't be bad, so I took their usually sound advice. The machine arrived quickly and after unpacking it I found the first sign of a problem-the drip spout wasn't attached to the filter holder. I called Capresso and they quickly and cordially sent out two free of charge. Two weeks into using the machine, I found that the goldtone filter had pulled away from its plastic housing. The bulk of the machine is plastic and even though it looks good, it feels flimsy. Called Capresso again and they wanted to charge me $17 for this piece; told them it was two weeks old and that it should last longer so they are sending another one free-haven't received it yet. In other reviews I read that the water heater and heating element didn't work well-just assumed that these people like their coffee really hot. Wrong! The water comes out at 175-180 degrees and the heating element doesn't work well at all. Thank heavens for a microwave. I'll save the good parts for last. It does make decent coffee because the beans are ground just prior to brewing, and it's an easy machine to use and clean. Much easier to clean than the Cuisinart a friend has. Yes, I'm disappointed that I spent $199 for this and am not happy yet, and probably never will be. When it goes to coffee maker heaven, I'll look for something without a Capresso label. Ditto for my espresso maker which I'll buy in a couple of months. "Don't waste your money", I received this coffee maker as a gift from my wife. It is a nice looking machine, and although the coffee isn't very hot and the brew time takes longer than it should, we enjoyed it. Just after the first year we had this machine, half of the LCD display stopped working. We had to pay to send it in for repair, as it was no longer under warranty and Capresso didn't consider it a defective part. We got the machine back finally and the LCD display was white as opposed to black, not as originally sold. They must have run out of black LCD parts from fixing the other 'non-defective' machines. Then, less than a year later the machine broke again, this time not moving the water from the reservoir into the filter basket. Another call to Capresso and it's almost 100.00 this time to return it. We spent 200.00 for this coffee maker initially, then 80.00 for the first repair and shipping, and they wanted an additional 100.00 to repair it again. We expected to have a reliable coffee maker for the price. We're disappointed and decided to purchase a Cruisinart instead of sinking money into this obviously sub-standard machine. Don't waste your money on Capresso coffee makers. "Disappointing gadgetry", Well, what can I say. The thing worked. At a pre-set time in the morning, the grinder would commence and the coffee would brew. I didn't have any trouble figuring out how to work it. I'll have to admit, it was kinda nice to wake up to the smell of coffee without having to do any work. Couple of problems, as before mentioned: (a) the grinder didn't grind the coffee fine enough for my taste; and (b) the water wasn't heated high enough: I'd have to nuke my cup after adding milk -- ridiculous. So while the device worked consistently, it made consistently mediocre coffee. Like another reviewer, I buy my coffee beans green and roast them myself. After going through all that trouble, why would I drop the ball at the end of the process? I now happily use the vacuum brewing method. Ultimately, I didn't feel this machine was worth its price. "Very Disappointed", I've been using mine for almost a year now. I'm ready to give it away or stick it in the garage and go back to my much more simple but effective manual grinder & Melitta and heating the water on the stovetop. This product is an epic fail. I've been using it because I spent 200 bucks, but my patience with it has worn thin. The just-brewed coffee is much too cold, having to let it sit and warm for another 15 minutes after the long 10 minute brewing process. We're talking almost 1/2 hour wait to get a hot pot of coffee. I haven't measured the temperature like a previous reviewer did, but I know what lukewarm coffee is and what hot coffee is - without having to bust out a thermometer and measure the temperature. The grinder is poorly designed. There is a plastic chute that the coffee must travel through to get to the filter, which is almost perfectly level, meaning the ground coffee just sits there in the chute with little coffee making it to the filter. Apparently, the engineers at Capresso haven't heard of gravity, or don't believe in it. With some much more significant slope and a much shorter chute, gravity could take over and this problem would be overcome. Also, even with the bean holder full there isn't enough weight from the beans to push them down into the grinder. If it is only half full forget about getting even close to enough of the beans to grind (and get stuck in the chute). With the problems I describe above, it is necessary for me to coax the coffee into the filter holder by tapping on the top of the machine while it grinds with one hand, and on top of the chute with the other hand. Forget about setting the timer to grind & brew while you sleep. Never does enough ground coffee make it to the filter without me coaxing it along. What? No heated carafe for 200 bucks? Just a bunch of plastic? This thing is overpriced to the extreme. I regret my purchase very much. "Different from the Cuisinart ", I owned the Cuisinart grind and brew for almost two years. Then I learned about the Capresso. I liked the Cuisinart, but I thought this one would taste fresher with more of a coffee shop taste. I was wrong. I found that this one like other people have stated, doesn't heat up and keep the coffee as hot as the Cuisinart. The hot plate doesn't stay on for four hours like the Cuisinart does. This one only stays on for two hours. Since I work from home, that is a big inconvenience for me. I had to invest in a separate carafe just to keep the coffee hot longer. I drink organic coffee from Trader Joe's so the coffee beans that I use sometimes are a little oily. The beans frequently get jammed inside the burr grinder, and I have to jump through hoops to try to get them out. This includes emptying out the coffee bean holder, then turning on the coffee maker so it grinds, sometimes that doesn't work, so I have to turn the whole machine upside down and turn it on again (advise from customer service at Capresso). After all that, I then have to refill it and put everything back together and start all over again to get a pot of coffee. The clean up is much easier then the Cuisinart, but with all the hassles I have with this one, I am contemplating going back to the Cuisinart or maybe trying another brand that I saw at Wal-Mart for a much less expensive price. All in all I do regret buying this coffee maker because when I paid $250 for a grind and brew coffee maker, I expected a whole lot more for my money then the $99 I paid for the Cuisinart brand. Read this reviews before You buy... "Fabulous Low Maintenance Grind and Brew ", I used to grind my coffee and add it to my coffee maker back in 2000 but when my daughter was born 9/2002 I knew my mornings would be more hectic so I looked for the grind and brew models. Now remember this was before we had the luxury of detailed consumer reiews, if there was a review it was usually a one liner like "works great" or "good cup of coffee". I picked up the Capresso by chance and never looked back. The grind chamber was excellent and it held a fair amount of beans. We brewed 10 cups every morning. The machine finally failed me after 5.5 years. Now here's the good part. I just went out and bought a Cuisanart grind and brew 10 cup maker and to my shock I couldn't believe the bean chamber where the beans get ground get wet. Why would someone design a machine this way. I had to clean this thing after every brew? How was this helping me. I didn't realize how great I had it with my Capresso. There was no cleaning of the chamber at all. I waste more water and bean on the Cuisanart just cleaning it out. I am returning it back to Kohls and Going back to get a newer Capresso. My original Capresso worked great. At the end of its life cycle the basket stopped swinging over completely and needed a little manuel help but this whole clean out the coffee machine after every 2 uses is a joke. There is a better way, It's The Capresso Way. "Very Nice Coffeemaker", I've had one of these (the original Swiss-made version) for over 5 years, and loved it. Recently purchased this new model (almost identical, but made in Portugal) and the first one didn't feed the ground coffee to the basket (it repeatedly clogged). Took a chance on a replacement (Amazon is amazing in that regard) and the replacement has worked great for several weeks. I just think the first one was a lemon. btw, my original one is still going strong too! 5-stars for both a great coffeemaker and a great retailer... "zillion times better than grind n brew, no prob with temperature", I've had this coffee maker for a month now and I enjoy both the machine and the wonderful coffee that it brews! I've had the Cuisinart Grind and Brew for about 5 years now and although I really enjoyed my previous machine, I am so much happier not having to clean the machine piece by piece. My favorites: > I am an avid coffee drinker and picky about flavor, this machine produces great tasting coffee! > I read amazon reviews about the temperature of the coffee not being hot enough and I have had absolutely no problem with this as of yet, although I now have a glass carafe which does not keep the heat like my old grind-n-brew stainless steel thermal pot, still the fresh pot is very hot for me and I no longer drink a pot 4 hours after I brew it so it's not a problem > This really is SUPER EASY TO MAINTAIN! Literally, I RINSE the pot, rinse the filter/basket and I'm already good to go. Wow, that's it! > The settings on the coffee maker is awesome, I have set it on "strong" so I have the strongest coffee brewing Only note: As with any new coffee maker, you have to get used to the amt of water vs. amt of coffee to brew. It took about 3-5 times and I havent thought twice about it since. Good luck and enjoy! "First cup of he day", I'm not a major java consumer but this thing is quite simple and consistent. I haven't screwed up my morning coffee yet. I will but of course it'll be my fault. To bad it's not self cleaning. "Love my Capresso", I purchased the Capresso coffee machine that stores and grinds the desired amount of beans as needed. Just love it! ![]() |
