Others say...
"Wait until the price drops to buy" The price of this product should drop because soon word will be out that it is prone to having problems. The espresso maker stopped working after less than a year. We descaled it according to the owner's manual, but that didn't make any difference. Now we have to send it out of state to have it repaired. We spent almost $300 for this machine. At first we loved it, now we wished we hadn't bought it. "Horrible experience..." I bought this machine for my office. We had it for about 2 months before it started beeping uncontrollably. It would just continuously beep every 30 seconds and the only way to stop it would be to leave it unplugged. We sent it to the warranty place that Krups uses in our area in January and just received it back today (May 9th). After plugging it in and attempting to use it, it now does not light up to signal that it is ready to make coffee or espresso and just makes a lot of noise. Nothing works except for the hot water option. I will be calling Krups and demanding a refund (it was purchased directly from their website). Save your money. Since we did not have the machine for over 3 months one of our employees brought in a $30 espresso machine she had purchased at target. It works so well we will be purchasing a permanent one for the office. We will just have to make due with having both a espresso machine and a coffee machine on the counter. "Loved my machine - why'd it stop working today after only 9 months?" My husband and I registered for this at Crate & Barrel and have been thrilled with it for 9 months now. I did immediately notice, however, that the carafe is made from very thin glass and was always scared I would break it. Other than that, the only problem I had with it was when pouring a cup of coffee, 9 times out of 10 it would leak over the sides and onto the counter if you didn't pour very slowly and sometimes even that didn't help. I just made a mental note that our next machine might be an upgrade from Krups or something like that, but still LOVED this machine. Imagine my horror when today, after our morning pot of coffee, it just completely stopped working! I unplugged it, changed outlets, nothing. The led display is just dead. The machine is dead. I've checked it every hour or so today. Nada. After doing some research online, I now see that is a common theme with this machine among people who've had it a while (the earliest I read of it happening was 5 months). I descaled it with vinegar every 3 months or so. Nothing in the manual addresses this situation. So, here I sit with a cup of Starbucks, writing this review. Starbucks just doesn't measure up anymore to having my fresh ground Kona coffee and espresso (not to mention lattes and cappuccinos!) each day....very disappointed. "Was Fine While it Worked ......" I must echo the comments in previous reviews. This is a fine machine at first -- does the job and does it well -- but the instructions were very complicated, the pot is poorly designed & you end up pouring just as much coffee on the counter as you do in your cup, and after 4 months of use, mine just stopped working. I really thought this $300 machine would be the last coffee maker I would have to purchase for awhile considering my $50.00 "Mr Coffee" machine worked for 5 years and is now being used as my "backup" while I try to get a resolution with Krups. (Thank goodness I decided to hold onto it!!) Think twice before sinking so much money into this product. "Absolute garbage" This machine is absolute garbage. There are not enough pejoratives or expletives in the world for me to describe my feelings for this device with anything like the right level of detail. The user interface is like trying to decode an alien artifact. The manual is terrible. The customer service and support is unbelievably bad. It is unreliable and expensive. Get a different espresso machine, go to a coffeeshop, heck, boil coffee in a 55 gallon drum over a pile of oily rags - any of these is a much more satisfactory way to get a coffee drink than using this (insert chain of imaginative diminutives) thing.

What our customer's say! "OMG It's a Trend! Krups XP2070 is a POS!", Holy espresso! This was a birthday gift from my husband in November 2006, as soon as this product came out. Well, it died yesterday after making it's last pot of coffee...yep, $300 machine & no power, no lights, no display. I tried plugging it in every outlet I could get to & nothing. So I just got done giving the not-so-sympathetic Krups customer service reps & supervisors a piece of my mind. I mean seriously...$300 & it lasted barely 16 months & they WON'T fix it, even under their "courtesy" warranty. That's NOT acceptable. I guess I'll be dragging out my 17 year old Braun 12-cup to do the job for now. Makes a nice doorstop I guess, albeit an expensive one. & BTW, it never really did make good espresso, the coffee carafe broke after only 1 week (paper thin glass) & it drips like crazy when you pour out of it anyhow. This is one expensive POS & Krups lost any future biz from me - this was their one & only chance to make things right & they blew it big time... "A Very Decorative Paperweight", I received this product from my wife as a gift about a year ago. Actually really liked the machine once I learned the quirks of using it. We descaled it (both sides) about every 2 weeks and rarely had trouble. Then one day, it just didn't turn on. No lights, no LED, nothing. Just a stainless steel brick. Still have not heard what the issue is from Krups, or how much it will cost to fix. From what I've read and now my own experience, it seems it's just another product from Krups that went to market before it was sufficiently tested. "waste $$$ and waste your time tooo! stupid. ", Completely wasted money and time. I've tried for 2 months to make coffee or a shot of espresso... bought expensive espresso pods and all. Do not buy this. You will be very sorry. The pump runs alot and lots of steam and flashi ng lights... and you get NOTHING just trouble and clean up the mess it leaves. Yuuuuuuk. "Good if you are looking for a disposable coffee maker", I found that, when this item worked, it worked well--nice crema and good milk frothing on the espresso side, and pretty good coffee on the coffee side. The problem was that it broke after five months of use. The main issue was that the water on the espresso maker side began coming out the bottom of the unit, but I also found the steamer to occasionally shoot off as well. I exchanged it for a new unit, and again, after five months of use, the water on the espresso side began coming out the bottom. So if you are looking for a combination coffee and espresso maker that is disposable and needs to be replaced every five months, this is your machine. "I wanted to love this machine, but...", We received a Krups coffee maker over 15 years ago as a wedding gift, and it was very reliable. So much so, that when I decided to get a combination coffee/espresso maker, I just went straight to this machine, relying on the name brand. I have worked at two coffee bars, and am quite adept at making espresso and steaming nice frothy milk. Nonetheless, this machine rarely turned out what I consider excellent lattes. I've never read the directions to any appliance so many times, looking for the step I "missed" that would make the espresso better. Finally, after 14 months of use, the espresso side quit working. When the machine was ready to make espresso, all the water would shoot out the steaming nozzle all over my counter, and no espresso was brewed. I finally found a local repair shop, and they want $150 to fix it. That's half the cost of the machine, and with only a 30 day warranty on it, I simply can't do it. This machine is not worth $450! I wouldn't recommend this machine. For the money, it should have lasted much longer and been more consistent in delivering a quality beverage. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "This is an excellent machine!", I've been using it for about 2 months now and I love it! It makes great coffee. The espresso feature works great and I love that you can adjust how much espresso it makes. Haven't had a single issue with it yet. The manual is only somewhat helpful but if you've had an espresso machine before, you'll figure it out. "I'd expect a lot more quality and customer service for the price", Like others, I have found the directions unnecessarily complicated and difficult to follow. That said, I was able to finally figure out the product, though it does require great patience in mastering. But more frustratingly, I have found the printed instructions to be contrary to the verbal guidance of customer service as I've had to send this until in two times after it completely stopped working. This modified approach to using the unit was only learned after having to send the unit in on two different occassions for repair. In summary, I am a huge detractor of this product and will never recommend it to a friend or anyone else. You are now well advised. However, if you would like to learn a bit more about how I have reached this consideration, please feel free to continue reading. Total cost of ownership and other things to consider: 1. You cannot make espresso and coffee at the same time (I had a <$100.00 unit that did this perfectly fine prior to this one) 2. Clean and descale weekly, otherwise you will have problems with the unit keeping it from operating 3. Making espresso requires running it once with no grounds in it to "warm up" the grounds holder -- otherwise you will get a luke warm cup of espresso. Net time to make a double-shot cappuccino is ~15 minutes. 4. You will also be buying another inexpensive coffee machine to use while you have this one in for repairs Under-powered unit My gut tells me the root cause of the challenges with this unit is the circuitry in the unit is under-powered. As a result, it effectively "over heats" and goes into a self-protect mode which to us mere consumers looks and behaves as though the unit just died. I must admit, on multiple occassions, our unit appeared to have "died" only to begin working again days later. I can now "force" this to happen (note: not doing anything the instructions would advise against doing). Thus my opinion that the circuitry is under-powered and over heats. After a cooling down time, the unit works again. I could be wrong, but this is my observation. Krups customer service Krups customer service (which I am 90% certain is subbed out to a third party) is terrible and could benefit from some Net Promoter Score education and influence. On one occassion, my unit was returned to me (after two weeks) with no paperwork or explanation of what Krups did, discovered or recommended for future successful operation. Note that the unit was sent to them unable to even power on and this was the second time in a six week period it had been in for service (the first time was a local facility which replaced some electronics in the device). While the unit did turn on upon return, it again failed within three days. A call back to a customer service manager did not improve our experience as it was stated the unit "was fine" when they sent it back to me. Krups customer service had the opportunity to make things right and send me a new unit, which they refused. Instead, they informed me I would need to send the unit back to them again -- at my expense -- for them to review one more time. I asked them what they would be doing differently this time than their last review of the machine and what documentation they would send back to me indicating what was done with the unit while in their possession. The customer service representative indicated "nothing would be documented and returned to me -- only the unit." Ridiculous. I've already paid >$300.00 for the unit, spent weeks dealing with customer service, taking/shipping the unit to two facilities for repair, not to mention my investment in another coffee machine while this one was gone. Ugh. I am done investing in this unit as my total cost of ownership is way too high if I consider trips to service centers, etc. My experience with Krups customer service, coupled with the illogical instruction manual, will keep me from buying another Krups product again. That's too bad, because the quality of the espresso and coffee output by the machine is great... when it works. "Easy to use, great tasting espresso!", I did not know which machine to buy after reading many reviews, but am so glad I chose this one. It looks great, is so easy to use and cleans easily! I have used this every day since... "Nice while it lasted", I got this machine for Christmas '06. After about 5 months of regular use (it's not like I'm using it to run a cafe or anything) my espresso maker quit on me. Support was helpful, but only after a few lengthy hold times. To my surprise the service center sent me back a brand new machine. Sadly, I'm writing this review after my second espresso side failure, this time out of warranty, to caution shoppers. The espresso maker works well. As other reviewers have noted, the steamer nozzle does have a tendency to pop off. The coffee maker has always disappointed me. For some reason, the coffee it brews is never very hot. Overall the machine is quirky and has usability issues, but is capable of making some great espressos... for about 5 months. Then it fails. "Works well, as advertised, takes a bit of setup", I have owned this for over a year and have made over 250 espressos and many pots of coffee. I have found it to work very well and makes fantastic espresso, commercial quality, with the 15 bar pressure, much better than lower pressure units. Once you have setup the programming it is extremely easy to use. Two touches to make an espresso. From the negative reviews I read I think many are from getting frustrated with the instructions, which do take a bit of up front work to configure. Say 30 to 45 minutes when you first set it up and several practice runs. Maybe more if setting up equipment is challenging for you. The programability is great however, because for the espresso you can dial in the water volume EXACTLY where you like it for your desired strength. By altering the coffee grind and water volume you can get the espresso strength, consistency and frothiness exactly where you like it, and then it makes them exactly the same way over and over again. The pump is indeed loud when making espresso, for about 30 seconds. And, the setup programming can be frustrating unless your expectations are set right for the upfront time investment. For the price I think its perhaps the best on the market. If mine broke I'd buy another. ![]() |
