"Black and Decker Coffee Maker"
The product did not come with a template, therefore I had to make my own. The filter on occasion pushes out before the coffee is completely finished.---

"mad isn't the word!"
This product is crap! I bought this not even 2 months ago and it already has problems. It was hard to install, it already leaks and it doesn't make the whole pot of coffee 97% of the time. I have to keep turning it on and off about a dozen times before I get a whole pot of coffee. I'll tell ya that it doesn't make for a good morning when your coffee was set the night before and you wake up to part of a coffee pot. I don't know about anyone else but I don't have that kind of time in the morning. Save yourself the irritation, don't buy this piece of junk.

"Happy With Product With One Exception"
Unlike many of the reviews here about this Black and Decker SpaceMaker Coffee Maker, I am completely satisfied with this new model... with one exception. The mounting screws are reversed in this model, they point up into the cabinet bottom complete with the hex nut that screws into each one. If you use the supplied screws, then you'll probably find that either they're too short or way too long, leaving 4 screws protruding into the bottom of your cabinet - DUMB, Black and Decker! The fix? Take a ride out to your nearest Home Depot and purchase 4 machine screws that are about 1/4 inch shorter. The screws still come into your cabinet, but are far less intrusive. To go even further, lie 2 sheets of that spongy cabinet liner across the bottom and the screws will almost disappear!

As for coffee spilling out while brewing - this has not been a problem at all. Simply place the coffee pot in place on the heating pad - it's made to fit the pot. Those that have complained about spillage are probably not placing the pot correctly. Take a second to ensure that it's seated and you'll have no problem. Coffee brewing speed is comparable to past models (hey, this NOT a Bunn), but then again, B&D coffee makers make better tasting coffee than Bunn's - because it takes a little longer.

All-in-all my new B&D SpaceMaker is the best one I've had yet. Not only is it the only under-the-counter drip coffee maker, but its coffee is the closest contender to perked coffee I've found. Buy this - you'll be glad you did.

"DANGEROUS PRODUCT!!!!!!!"
I was VERY disappointed with my purchase of this product for many of the reasons stated by other reviewers. I was planning on writing a review at some time in the future but when it spilled out onto the heat plate this morning, I was inspired to do it NOW.

In reading the other reviews, I believe this product should be recalled. Having coffee spilling out on the heat plate isn't exactly like throwing a toaster oven into the bath water of a child, but it's darn close. TOO close to be deemed safe for consumer use. Other complaints I have of this piece of junk are the typical comments from others.... way to frustrating to install (I had to manufacture screws to fit my cabinet and the 1/8" tolerance required inside the mounting bracket) and a clock that is as erratic as an Angus bull in a tornado rendering the programming feature useless.

I am going to read through the reviews of this product and mark all of those with negative insights as being "useful to me". This way, the bad reviews will move up in the order of appearing on the computer screen when being viewed by future prospective buyers who are researching this product. I hope you will be inclined to do the same. This product is more dangerous than a 1972 Pinto!!!! Ralph... you out there?

"black and decker coffee spacemaker"
OMG- This is the worst. I had a black and decker spacemaker for years and moved, needed a new one. I purchased 2/07 and now the 4th replacment just stopped working.
The 1st replacement was sent because the water would not leave the reservoir. The 2nd and 3rd because the digital display stopped displaying and now the 4th is the same as the first.
At least they said after the 4th replacement in a year I can get my money back.
They USED to be good, now shoddy work and cheap parts. Stay away from this $50.00 monster!!!

What our customer's say!

"A little reengineering fixes it", This coffeemaker is basically a good product, but as many people have remarked, the filter basket does not adequately catch in place. If it slips forward, the sneak-a-cup feature closes the drip hole and the basket can overflow. Although this hasn't happened to me in actual use, I can easily make the basket slip by bumping the cabinet where it's mounted. This is an egregious design flaw and I can't imagine how B&D could have "engineered" the coffeemaker so poorly.

However, there's an easy fix. Simply cut two quarter-inch strips of duct tape and apply them to the tracks that the basket slides on. That raises the basket a little and causes the catch to hold more securely. If it needs more hold, add another strip. Problem solved!

In addition, mounting the unit was very difficult. I had to buy longer mounting screws as the supplied ones were too short. But once the unit was mounted, the installation was very solid--much better than the rickety older versions.

Having solved these problems, I'm pretty happy with my unit.

"so much potential but terrible product", Hey other coffee maker companies....Listen up....we love this spacesaving design- actually make a good coffee pot that uses it! We have bought two of these terrible pots just because our kitchen space is so tiny, but we're now officially done. They work for a few months to a year (just long enough for the warranty to end) and then break. We had to duct tape the grounds compartment shut for it not to pop out slightly and make water and grounds go all over our counter underneath. We bothered with that for 3 months and now it simply has no power anymore- won't turn on- just totally dead. This truly is a bad product- find the counter space and buy a different model.

"Some flaws, but OK to buy", We've owned a Black and Decker Spacemaker since the early 90's, and when it came time to replace it, I was surprised that this was really the only under-the-counter coffee maker that existed. I bought this new model and installed it.
Getting right to the point:
Pros: Easy to install, keeps the coffee hot and fresh for a long time without burning it, doesn't stain as easily as the old model, makes a decent cup of joe, quiet
Cons: Carafe leaks when pouring coffee (get a paper towel), drip cup sometimes builds up condensation and drips outside the machine, water in fill area doesn't always empty completely after brewing

Overall, the minor design flaws don't overpower the convenience of the additional counter space that the Spacemaker provides.

"Mounting nightmare, but so far works well.", *****UPDATE!**** Helpful hint: Keep a dishtowel under this unit while brewing, or maybe a second coffee pot to catch the leaking water. This is now down to 1 star, because I can't change the star rating for some reason.***** One of Black and Deckers biggest problems is they replace very well made products with totally new designs that don't always work. If I had known they would discontinue the old model odc325, I would have purchased 3 of them and put them in storage. Same goes for the under-the-cabinet toaster oven. A $35 dollar UTC toaster oven can now be found on e-bay for $150. The only reason you buy Black and decker is because of the under the cabinet design. They now make the same countertop toaster oven as everyone else, and not as well made to boot! If they want to change design, they should keep the mounting system the same. People don't mind replacing the coffee maker every 3 or 4 years, but do mind emptying their cabinets out and drilling NEW and MORE holes in their cabinets everytime they need a new one. This coffee maker has a terrible mounting system that requires precise drilling to 1/16th". Most of us are not that handy, so we are forced to guess where we place the template holes inside, so the coffee maker is in the right spot. If you buy this model, and get it mounted, I suggest you buy every spare part they offer, and put them away, because in 2 years, you won't be able to replace anything. Great ideas, bad executions. Black and Decker has gone downhill since Applica bought them out in 1998.

"B&D Spacemaker piece of junk ", My parents had a spacemaker for years it was Great. It finally bit the dust a few years ago so to help my elderly parents I ordered a new one off the internet. Installed it lasted a little over a year long enough for the warranty to be NO longer valid..... Water wouldn't come down into the pot. Ordered another one and it just stopped working again a little over a year. Unfortunately my dad waited 6 months from when I purchased it to install because it wouldn't fit in the existing spot without major modifications so they really only used it for about 6 months. No idea what happened to that one it just quit!!! So we have finally given up on Black and Decker products. I own one and just noticed the carafe has a hairline crack not leaking as of yet, however having trouble locating a new carafe my dad's old/new one that's stainless steel won't fit!!! So there you have it.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Black & Decker and the slippery slope", Long ago, I came to the conclusion that Black & Decker generally produced inferior appliances. You could never attach the word "professional" to their products. The only product that I have bought from them is two of their Spacemaker coffee makers. The first Spacemaker was the only long lasting Black & Decker product that I owned. We just bought a second one, and I agree that Black and Decker instruction manuals are terrible. The Spacemaker template shows you where to make a fold, but it does not tell you where to put it. Secondly, this second one had a crack develop in the carafe, and it was leaking for a few days before we figured out that there was a crack in the glass. The manual that I have is for three different models of the product and the manual is written in several languages. I had trouble figuring out which model I had, plus it was impossible to figure out the part number for the carafe, as they only listed one model number (hard to do when the carafe is offered in Black & White and they don't show a different part number for each of the three coffee makers). Further, I wanted to buy a carafe locally or on the internet, but have not found one as of yet. I guess I have to call Black & Decker to order the part, and hope I get the right one. And, who knows how long we will have to wait. These large companies really could try a little harder.

"aggravation, aggravation", The mounting instructions were written by someone who has had no apparent contact with the product. The installation of this product underneath a cabinet will try your patience. I have purchased three in the last month and while two seem to operate as advertised once mounted, the third is going back. If there is more than a one inch overhang under the cabinet the bolts are not long enough without filling the space with a piece of two by eight which requires a whole new set of instructions and a trip to the lumber company. We have had three of the spacesavers over the last 15 or so years and each time the design changes required a new set of holes. Our cabinet floor begins to look like swiss cheese. This will be the last one. Other problems: There is no light to show when it is on so you have to squint at the faint screen looking for the words "on" or "off" to know if you need to turn it off before leaving the house. Previous models had an easy to see light. We had to test to see if there is a two hour automatic shut off as this very important feature is not even mentioned in the owners manual or on the packaging. On the last purchase there was no mounting template included. The drive to lower the manufacturing cost is ruining what was once a great product.

"Piece of junk", This is the third spacemaker coffee maker we have purchased. The first two were good appliances that worked well for 4 or 5 years. This one was a piece of junk. The spring in the automatic shut off was too strong so the carafe tended to pop out of the base shutting off the drip and causing it to overflow. The clock gained a minute or two a day making it virtually useless and the thing completely died after about 6 months. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!

"Almost perfect ... and very convenient to use.", This under the counter coffee maker is just what I wanted and it works great. Only complaint, no permanet filter basket comes with it and I had to order one.

"STILL WAITING FOR B&D TO BRING OUT A GOOD SPACEMAKER", I'm glad to see that B&D has brought back the under counter coffee maker with warming plate.
We owned the older model of the Spacemaker and loved it. It finally gave out so I did not hesitate to replace it with the Black and Decker new Spacesaver model. We tried a couple of designs. Neither of them worked well.
The one with thermal carafe was totally useless, didn't pour right and didn't keep coffee hot long enough.
We tried the ODC400 model with warming plate, but it leaked and wasn't reliable either.

I have read the reviews of the ODC440, and am not ready to buy it due to negative reviews, regardless of the few positive reviews. Perhaps that points to a lack of product consistency??

When will B&D re-design and bring out a good under-counter coffee maker? We will certainly buy one if it is well designed and works well. We believe in B&D, and the concept of space saving on the counter appeals to us.
