Others say...
"Almost Excellent, but Needs Improvement" We love to grind our own coffee, and need a variety of differing grinds, depending on whether we use the French Press, the Drip with filter or espresso. Let it be said that few grinders other than conical burr grinders costing hundreds of dollars can really do consistent espresso grind. That being set aside, this is an exceptional blade grinder, in terms of easy use, and consistent grind, with generous capacity. That sets it far above most blade grinders. The unit is rather powerful for a blade grinder and is therefore very loud. Hamilton Beach has been great with replacement parts at reasonable prices....oh....replacement parts??? Yes, now comes the negatives: 1. The clear safety top loosens easily during grinds, autostopping the otherwise superb one-touch grind system. If this happens, you will need to either keep your hand on the top during grinding, or add a few strategically placed strips of clear adhesive tape to make the fit a bit tighter. However, eventually, the plastic top will wear out a bit at the "latches" that lock in place, and a new lid will need to be ordered - they are inexpensive, and Hamilton Beach is great about sending them quickly and for minimal freight, which is rare nowadays. 2. At times the unit seems to go on strike. Usually this means that the removable blade assembly as shifted. It should be turned counter-clockwise to remove and clean, as some ground debris finds its way into the area between this and the main body of the machine. Clean and reinsert, being sure to fully seat turning clockwise. This will usually correct this problem. Also be sure that the clear top is fully locked and loaded. 3. There is a cute little black arrow indicating the back alignment of the top to the base of the machine. As far as I am concerned this entire approach was a major fiasco in engineering. My wife has broken one top already because she forced the thing on with the arrow facing the front, which cracks the locking tabs. If Hamilton Beach is listening, please redesign this to be universal fit, or change the whole lock down design to be more secure, and easier for everyone to use BEFORE they have had their first cup of coffee in the morning! Remember, people are only half conscious at this point. :) 4. After a bit more than a year, our first Hamilton Beach just gave up. I suspect something in the basic electronic circuitry like a thyristor or maybe even the push button switch, rather than the motor, but it was a sad moment. Now we have to find something else...likely a burr grinder that will cost us a fortune. What is disappointing is that this product has such great potential, but fails to fully succeed, and the design elements are brilliant on one hand and utterly insipid, idiotic on the other. If Hamilton Beach would only fix the flaws they would have a truly outstanding performer that can compete with $ 100 burr grinders and produce superior grinds at a fantastic value. In the final assessment, this product is well worth its price, but be prepared to live with some shortcomings, replacement parts and perhaps a shorter than expected product life. Look for future reviews on any new grinders we get. "Another piece of junk!!!" Another piece of junk!!! I've only had this thing for 3 months and it will not turn on anymore. For what little I used it, you would think that I would get at least a years worth of use out of it. Unless you plan on replacing your coffee grinder every few months, don't waste your money. This product gets a "0" from me "Works well for 2 months" I bought this as a replacement for my older Hamilton Beach coffee grinder which died after a year. This one was worse, as the blade fell off after only 2 months, and we haven't been able to screw it back on. Waste of money; put in a few extra dollars and get a more reliable coffee grinder. "Coffee Grinder" This is a fabulous product. The first one didn't last a year but we liked it so much we bought another one. "Excellent grinder" This coffee grinder does a very good job for me. It is truly a one-touch system -- select the number of cups on the slider switch, hit the power button and off it goes, grinding the beans and stopping when it's done. The coffee beans seem to grind up consistently, from one batch to the next. Sure, occasionally I might have a bean or two left unground, but it's no big deal. If it bothers you, you can always hit the button again, or just select a finer grind next time. The little clean-up brush that the grinder comes with was a nice touch, and works well. The noise that this unit makes doesn't bother me -- this is a coffee grinder, after all, and the noise it generates doesn't seem that excessive to my ears. It's not like I'm trying to use this in a library or anything, and the grinding process is over in about 10 seconds or less. The product seems solid and well made, and the cost was reasonable. I like it a lot.

What our customer's say! "great coffee grinder ", Hands free operation works really well and removable grind container a plus. Overall sturdy feel and works well. Good controls. Sturdy plastic top an important point, because other brands have worn out quickly on me. Top engages easily and securely, too. Maybe best I have used at any price. Purchased at [...] and shipped to me as the store only stocks more expensive, but in my view, less useful grinders. Hey, these reviews need not be anonymous? What do you say we personalize if possible for authenticity and club news. I am Mike Rund of Dahlonega Georgia and you can write me at mikesads at mailas.com "Coffee Grinder", Love Hamilton Beach products and this grinder is easy to use, varied choices and does the job. "Great Grinder", I searched online for a good coffee bean grinder. After I read reviews on various brands, I decided to go to Target and check out this Hamilton Beach 80365 Coffee Grinder. They had several different brands, but this one stood out. I purchased this grinder and could not be more pleased. I like my grounds fine so I selected the Expresso Grind and boy was I surprised. This unit grinds great, it is easy to clean out all the coffee grounds out with a brush and I like the fact that the unit where the grounds are can be detached from the base to pour your grinds into your filter,I also like that the cap has to be locked to grind, and coffee grounds do not get in around the lid. You just have to clean the grounds from the inside at the top. If and when this unit gives out, I will buy another Hamilton Beach Coffee Grinder. To put the icing on the cake, the hands free grinding timer is a great asset. That was my main reason for purchasing the unit, but I tell you that I am very pleased and happy with this grinder. I would recommend this unit to anyone who likes fresh ground coffee. Happy in PA "Custom Grind fell apart after two years of mild use", I purchased the 80355 model of this product and after two years of weekend use it basically fell apart. The motor was only mounted with double stick tape and the plastic snaps that attach the silver housing to the black grinding bowl. The tape came loose from the motor and then the motor and grinding bowl eventually worked their way out of the housing. Otherwise it worked well, but a product such as this should last a lot longer than two years, especially since I was only using it on the weekends. I have another grinder that I spent $10 on about 10 years ago that still works. When I contacted Hamilton Beach they said that since it was out of the 1 year warranty they couldn't do anything. I will never buy a Hamilton Beach product again and recommend that you don't either. "Unevenly grinds beans", This grinder does not work well if you use a French press to make coffee. It grinds the beans very unevenly - some large pieces and some very fine dust, even on the "Percolator" (coarsest) setting. When you brew the coffee the fine dust goes right through the metal filter and ends up in your cup. On the plus side, it is easy to clean and maintain. It may work fine if you use paper filters. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "Great rocket-engine grinder", I have had this grinder for about a year now with no problems, so, it seems to be reliable. It is indeed ONE-TOUCH - you set the dial to the grind you want and press/release the button and off it goes. The container which holds the beans and blades comes out as one piece with the lid being another separate piece. Both can be cleaned very easily. Likewise, you can swab around the inside with a damp paper-towel and clean up quickly. The bean-holder cup actually LOCKS in place with a clockwise twist. You should always make sure you lock it into place before you grind - if you just 'place' the bean-holder cup in place IT WILL STILL spin and grind which could be dangerous - I have absentmindedly done this before with, luckily, no adverse affects - still, you should lock it in place. The cord does wind up unobtrusively into the unit itself but it takes a bit of patience - which is no big deal. I grind Trader Joes Italian Roast and I like a very finest grind setting. I grind for only one cup at a time (12 oz. cups) - two cups every morning. The only slight problem is the noise/dB level it generates. As stated in the review title - it is gnarly loud (at least, mine is), so much so that I started placing it on a flat oven-mitt on the kitchen counter and use another oven-mitt to completely cover it to drown out the shrieking noise - and this works well. I have some high-frequency hearing loss and usually use earplugs for my lawnmower, vacuum cleaner. I did not want to take earplugs on/off twice a morning just to grind my coffee. It is possible that with more beans in the grinder it would mitigate the noise-factor. The noise problem would not stop me from re-purchasing especially when you see the elitist pricing of the burr-grinders. Hope this helps. "I love this coffee grinder!", So easy to use. Just press the button and it does the rest. No more estimating the courseness of your grounds, this grinder does it for you! "Not reliable", I bought this about 2months ago and was very pleased with the outlook and the fancy functions. I worked fine for a while and now it's hard to get the same quality of grinding. I can see more chunks of coffee beans when it's finished grinding and it seems that the problem is getting worse. My neighbor has a less than $10 worth grinder (looks very cheap, no fancy button, etc.) and it works much better than this one! I'm so disappointed. "hold on!", The motor in this grinder is so good that it rattles the top out of the lock position, so you need to hold it down while in operation. Not the intended useage. I purchased for a disabled person, bummer. "Coffee never tastes better", Amazon delivered on time as promised. I practically buy on line exclusively on Amazon.com After three weeks of using this coffee bean grinder, I find it performing efficiently. Instructions are clear. Coffee tastes better. Hamilton Beach has come up with a good balance of prce and quality. ![]() |
