"Anonomous", Even more stunning up close/in person... Works like a charm! Glass is said to be tempered (ie heat & break resistant)- we shall see about the durability of the glass decanter- This model is constructed so that the glass is always housed in the metal caging, including a metal protective base which lifts the glass completely off/above the table/countertop surface, about 1/4 inch- which hopefully should help to protect the glass carafe from breakage. (One would only need to take it out occasionally for a thorough cleaning of the glass decanter EXTERIOR- you can thouroughly clean the INSIDE of the glass decanter without removing it from the metal housing). I always keep extra 8 cup size glass decanters on hand for my collection of French presses- you can buy the replacement decanters here at Amazon.com (look for Bodum replacement carafes), the glass carafes always end up breaking sooner or later. It's nice though, if they at least last a while before breaking! This makes a DELICIOUS cup of coffee! Really super rich/elegant looking, too! ENJOY!
