"Works like a charm"
With the help of other customer reviews, this peel was my choice. It works wonderfully and it is easy to store because the handle screws off. My loaf of "artisan" bread rose on coarse corn meal right on the peel. When it was time to bake, my hands didn't have to pull out the rack or get near the heat and the bread dough slid right off onto the cooking stone. (If you are at all concerned about dough sticking to the peel or you don't want to use cornmeal, put a piece of parchment paper on the peel, plop on the dough, and slide the paper and dough onto the baking stone. The paper will not burn and is easy to remove from the cooling loaf.) Removing the loaf was easy with the peel, too. I recommend this fine tool.

"Mario Batali Pizza Peel"
I was looking for a Pizza Peel, but having trouble finding one that we could actually store somewhere with limited cabinet space and really nowhere to hang one. This fit the bill for space, and incidentally works quite well. Additional factors include not having to worry about maintaining a tradition wooden peel as to warping, etc., and how solidly this is built. This works very nicely for numerous other things in the oven, not just pizza. Very handy addition.

"hey, it's pretty good"
I like this product b/c the handle is long enough, but it can be "collapsed" for easier storage. This is the only pizza peel I have owned, so I don't have a comparison with a wood one....
This is what I do: I put a lot of cornmeal on it, roll out the dough (I like a thin crust), put on the red sauce base, and then I slide it off onto the pizza stone that is in the oven (then add the other toppings). I have discovered that that works fine almost every time... if you fully "dress" the pizza before trying to slide it on the stone, sometimes it sticks (b/c it's too heavy, I think) - once we just had to have a calzone instead of a pizza ....
Overall I am happy the purchase b/c it allows me to roll the dough out for a thin crust, instead of trying to spread/pull it out while on the preheated pizza stone.

"Works great stores easily."
This pizza peel is wonderful. We put our pizzas on the grill- and this one has a nice long handle so I can avoid getting burned.
I love that the handle folds so I can store it easily- and prefer the metal peel for easy cleanup.

"Very nice, wish the handle design was slightly better"
I've only had this a short time and I like it a lot. The price is good and the quality is good. The handle is clamped to the blade by a large wooden knob which screws on from beneath. You can loosen the knob to fold the handle or even remove the handle completely (nice for putting the blade in the dishwasher). The way it's designed though the knob attaches on the bottom which makes it so that the Peel can't be laid flat (the knob sticks out quite a ways below the blade). This can be fixed by putting the handle on upside-down and screwing the knob on from the top. Having the knob on the top isn't too bad, but I wish the handle was simply designed to mount with the knob on top so that it looks nicer when attached that way.

What our customer's say!

"Useless", So,
I was very excited by this peel because of the folding handle. My mistake.
The problem with this peel is that pizza dough doesn't slide off of the peel at all! I've tried putting tons of flour on it, cornmeal, spatulas, everything! But nothing seems to work to get the pizza to slide off! Maybe if I cooked the dough first, that would work, but that's not what I'd use a peel for!
I've now set of the smoke alarms twice in my house because the pizza toppings have fallen off the pizza into the oven, while the pizza just sits on the dumb peel and refuses to move.
And it's not like I'm using too many toppings: light sauce, cheese, mushrooms, and onions.
Avoid!

"I expected more from this pizza peel", I recently used my pizza peel and expected everything to turn out just right. I tried to follow the instructions and coat the peel to have the pizza dough just slide right off. Didn't happen! In fact, it got so hung up on the peel that it had to be reshaped and put on the pizza stone by hand. That's really disappointing. Also, as some other reviewer noted, the peel scratches very easily.

I enjoy making homemade pizza and I think I will just end up using this pizza peel to remove the completed pizza from the oven and continue to place my pizza directly on my cooking stone without using the peel. It is a shame because I had high hopes for this peel.

Maybe I can find some other uses, like taking items off the barbeque grill when I cannot find my large spatula.

July 2008 Update: I used the pizza peel again to cook pizza on the grill. I found that as long as I make sure that I completely coat the peel with cornstarch, it is easier to slide the dough off the peel onto my stone. Unfortunately, it still takes some work so that the dough slids off without curling over itself, but I think I have the hang of it.

"pizza peel", Mario Batali The Italian Kitchen Collection Pizza Peel
Handle is long enough to reach the pizza from the hot oven and it folds for easy storage. I am glad that I purchased this one!

"FOLDING HANDLE WON'T STAY TIGHT", I WAS VERY EXCITED TO ORDER THIS AS I EXPECTED GREAT QUALITY FROM SUCH A GREAT CHEF, UNFORTUNATELY WHEN I FIRST TRIED TO UNFOLD THE HANDLE I NOTICED THAT IT DID NOT PROPERLY FIT IN THE NOTCHED WOOD, HENCE MAKING THE SCREW UNABLE TO REMAIN TIGHTENED, DISAPPOINTING AS WITH A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT TO WHERE THE WHOLE WAS PUT FOR THE SCREW IT WOULD HAVE FIT AND BEEN QUITE USEFUL.

"Good peel", Good quality peel and the folding handle is a nice plus so you store it easily. I did scratch it a bit trying to help a pizza off the peel onto the baking stone using a metal spatula, but nothing major. I now use plastic utensils with it.

I have yet to master getting an uncooked pizza off it. I dust the peel with corn meal, and use a drier dough that doesn't stick as much, but I usually still have to help it a bit to get it into the oven.
