"Great Basting Brush"
After unpacking the Mario Batali Silicone Basting Brush I was not sure how this could possibly do the job. Well, what a wonderful awakening. Its light weight, holds and spreads sauce evenly. I Love it.

Must admit...I had reservations about a silicone baster...I get totally freaked out at the idea of serving my family anything baked in a silicone pan...what if they got some hither too unknown form of cancer as a result of ingesting contaminated food particles...plastic in the oven just creeps me out...but being tired of always replacing the wooden paint brush type basters I usually buy...I decided to give this little baster a try.

Mr Batali claims he really did his homework before attaching his name to this new product line....supposedly his gadgets are designed to do the job better than existing items for the same purpose. So one day I just added this to my internet cart along with two of his wooden spoons...(which are also quite good).

Well...as a marinade brush it didn't knock my socks off...but as an egg white brush this baby rocks!!! It really holds the egg well and distributes it onto the bread or pastry uniformly and beautifully...and best of all...no more dripping impossible to clean egg white onto my good bake pans! For this I am very grateful and happy to add this to my collection of beloved kitchen tools. And Oh...it's an attractive color too!

"Easy cleanup but..."
The silicone bristles deliver on easier (much easier) cleanup and maintenance than traditional brushes, but alas it does not brush as well, and liquids tend to splatter more with this style of brush. It does brush well enough to get the job done, though
