"Slow cooker"
It's ok, but it doesn't program the correct way. I have a hard time everytime I go to use it. I am now in the middle of purchasing another one.

"Great Slow Cooker"
Aside from the fact that the handles feel flimsy when I pick it up, this is a wonderful product. It does a good job cooking the food. The probe works well, switching to "warm" mode when it reaches exactly the temperature I've entered. I'd give it 5 stars if the handles were sturdier.

"Hamilton Beach 33966 Programmable Slow Cooker"
This is the best slow cooker that I have ever used. The programmable feature is superb. Most other programmable slow cookers only allow you the choice of either: 2 - 4 hours on low or 6 - 8 hours on high---no mix and match. This one allows you to program exactly as you need. Nice design also and very roomy for meats. You won't be disappointed.

What our customer's say!

"For the money, the best on the market", This slow cooker has it all.

The probe is the stand out feature, but not necessarily useful for roasts because I'm looking for the roast to fall apart and not cook further. I used the probe on a pork roast set to 170 and it got there just fine, but it switches to warm after that. The roast was still rubbery at that point. The maximum probe temp is 180 so I switched to an instant read thermometer and monitored it until it reached 210 for about an hour. It may have been done a little earlier, but not much. The probe does have an outstanding use though, it will be especially useful for re-heating without overcooking.

I imagine using the programmed mode would be the best way to go for unattended cooking of roasts without overcooking.

Pros:

- Very flexible. Probe, program, and manual cooking
- Does a great job as a true slow cooker, better than any other I've owned, and I've had a few. I think it's because the crock is so heavy.
- Well designed display, very easy to use.
- Re-heating without a chance of overcooking
- Excellent capacity

Cons:

- None. According to some reviewers it has been less than reliable, but it's doing fine for me.

Summary:

This is a wonderful slow cooker that should be on anyone's list when on sale. I bought it at $39.99 and frankly, you shouldn't pay more for it. I do agree with other people with buying it from a retailer that has a good return policy in case you run into any problems. Bottom line, it's the best I've used.

"Died the first time I used it!", I had been looking for a crock pot for awhile, and decided this one had all the features I needed. I had read the reviews about a few people having issues with it, but was hoping the company had improved their quality control and worked out the bugs. This was not the case! The crock pot died right in the middle of the first meal I made. Don't take a chance on this unit. The crock is of good quality, but the cooking housing feel cheap and the display is hard to read. And it breaks!

"Fantastic slowcooker!", I was going to buy a unit that switched to warm after cooking from Wal-Mart but came home and found it had horrible reviews, so I looked to see which units had good reviews and found this one - not only does it go to warm after cooking, it has a probe!

I've cooked about 6 meals in it so far, including a corned beef from frozen, put it in with water and 12 hours later on low it was one of the best corned beefs I've had in a while! Tried a Pacific Pork Roast recipe from [...] in order to test out the probe (I'm very cautious with pork and loved the fact it had a thermometer for it). It hit the temperature and then went to warm which was good since my kids didn't eat till 9 at night. Any other crockpot and this would have been way overcooked and dry.

I highly recommend it. I was a little concerned about the fact that there is a hole in the lid where the probe goes in and what that would do when the probe isn't being used, but so far it is just fine, I haven't noticed any impact on the liquid in the unit. I just really love this unit. I'm going to get one for my daughter for her birthday, and one another friend for Christmas.

"Quit after 2 uses, new one wouldn't power up", Thank gawd Target has a 90-day return policy! I purchased this on sale and used it twice with great results. Yesterday I came home to a pot roast that quit cooking several hours ago... all my groceries spoiled. Today I went to Target and returned the defective unit and picked up a new one. Plugged it in and filled it with goods for split pea soup. Hit the power button... and... nothing! I'm done with this brand. Looks great, works great the two times it did its job, but the electronics are obviously NOT very durable or sophisticated. I treated this pretty unit carefully, so nothing was ever spilled on it, it never needed wiping, and was never bumped or dropped. Hope you have better luck or learn from my experience.

"NOT For Shabbat Use", I own and love a smaller manual Hamilton Beach crockpot that I use to keep meatballs warm for the kids on Shabbat. When I decided I needed a second crockpot for soup or cholent for the adults, I decided to go for the fancier model.

Disaster struck.

On Shabbat morning, I found the crockpot completely off and my cholent rapidly cooling. I blamed myself; I must have done something wrong. But no, it wasn't me. THIS SUCKER SHUTS ITSELF OFF AFTER 14 HOURS. Unfortunately, that's in the small print, buried on page whatever-you-never-actually-get-to in the manual. In other words, this crockpot is completely and utterly unusable for Shabbat.

Back it goes.
