"Real Issues!"
I have been using this model now for six months and here is what I found. Knowing the ceramic bowl is large even temperature heating is very important. I try to get the bowl centered as much as possible especially side to side where there is most play. Get the items close to room temperature and place things like onions or carrots under large pieces of meat to keep from having a cold spot in the middle of the bowl. When starting I use the Banquet setting to Low after time to allow things to come up to temp gradually. The only big problem is it runs too hot! I too use Banquet to slow cook or simmer as anything above that will boil out the moisture in less than six hours. WHY KA?

"Cracked Crock"
Hairline crack along bottom of ceramic pot after only a dozen uses. Should have checked reviews before purchase like I usually do. After reviewing other comments on this product stating kitchen aid replacements also cracked, will just take the loss and try another brand.

"Take a pass on this one!"
Based on the recommendations from Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen, I compared The KitchenAid and All-Clad slow cookers. I decided on the KitchenAid in onyx because I liked the look. Because of warnings from some of the reviewers re:cracking ceramic inserts, first time use was water only on high for 2 hours...testing...testing...all was OK. Next, a bed of onions, an herb and garlic rubbed pork roast and a sour cherry glaze. After 2 hours the house smelled great, then I heard a loud crack. I pulled the insert out and checked the bottom...hairline crack. I decided to take a chance and finished cooking the roast.(Delish!) Cleaned up the crock and the crack was visible on the inside too. So this one got sent back to Amazon(and they make it SO easy to do that!)I didn't want the same experience of one reviewer who went through 3 ceramic inserts...obviously there's a quality control problem...shame on Kitchenaid for not recalling these...they're a safety hazard! So, I just ordered the All-Clad and am crossing my fingers. Next test will be Mexican Pork Roast with Tomatillo Sauce. I'll let you know...

"Great Cooker"
I love this slow cooker. It is so easy to use and does a super job. I like choice of settings and the automatic off feature. I also use the buffet setting to keep the food at a safe temperature until everyone in the family has eaten. I also like the way the cord has a place on the bottom so that it isn't in the way when I try to store it. I would absolutely buy it again.

"KitchenAid crockpot Awesome"
A little pricey compared to some, but well worth it! Have used often for various menues, ie: soups, pulled pork, pot roast, stews. FYI The best= Hoppin' John recipe: 1 large ham hock and 1 tablespoon olive oil to braise on all sides,1 cup onion chopped, 1 cup celery chopped, 1 cup green pepper chopped, 2 tablespoon chopped garlic, 1 pound black-eyed peas (or field peas)boil then simmer for an hour drain and rinse, 1 quart chicken stock, Bay leaf, 1 teaspoon dry thyme leaves, Salt, black pepper, and cayenne, 3 cups white rice. Put all but rice in crock pot and cook on high for four hours, add rice and cook one more hour. Just before you add rice you can remove ham hock and separate meat from bone and return meat with the rice. Awesome tasting dish!
I've given the KitchenAid a good workout in past year with no problems.

What our customer's say!

"ANOTHER cracked crock!!!", Okay, my 4th crock insert has cracked! I have been told by Kitchenaid that they had a "bad batch of crocks" but going thru 4 in a year??? They have been great in the fact that they keep replacing it but I finally said that I am thru and they are giving me a credit towards other Kitchenaid merchandise. I am on the hunt for another crock...
Love the features of this slow cooker, but without a functional crock, they are not much good...

"Great Product", At first I was a little reluctant to purchase this crock pot because of some of the negative reviews with the pots being warped and the lids not fitting or the pot cracking while cooking. I didn't have any of those problems. The lid fits fine; I've had the crock-pot for a month now and used it several times and it works great.

"cracked after one year", Haven't used this slow cooker more than half a dozen times with good results, until our last usage, where we heard a resounding CRACK-after removing the pot roast and veggies-discovered a long crack running from the bottom and up the side of the ceramic pot.

"Another Cracked Pot", I now realize this is a common problem, but I just loaded up my crock pot with fresh tomatoes only to smell a burning smell 5 minutes later and find a tiny hair line crack along the bottom, leaking tomato sauce out all over. I called Kitchenaid for a replacement but since it was a Christmas gift I don't have the receipt and they won't replace a thing. What a terrible company and a terrible product, I will not purchase Kitchen Aid again.

"Keeps on Cracking", I have been using the Kitchenaid Slow Cooker for almost a year. Bought it because of the programmable cooking options. Found small crack on the first pot after dozen meals. Company replaced canister. Cracked again...
Company replace the whole unit, and after one meal, bigger crack. I just feel there is an intrinsic problem with how the ceramic pot is fired. Made in the USA? I don't think so. Customer service for Kitchenaid was very helpful...

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Kitchenaid Working Fantastic!!!", I bought the KitchenAid KSC700OB 7-Quart Slow Cooker, Onyx Black crockpot amid mostly great reviews and a few negatives about cracking. Good reviews were great so I went ahead, but before first cooking I just boiled water to check for problems. None found. Have cooked 5 separate meals so far and I love the setting flexibility and ease. The 7 quart pot is big, but if you're gonna cook you might as well cook for 2 days (or family and friends if they are coming.) It is everything I hoped for and expected. An ease to cook with and it doesn't get much easier that "CROCKIN'."

"So far so good :)", We've used this slow cooker three or four times now and it has done well for us. Our one concern was that the lid did not seem tight fitting to me - there's about an 1/8 - 1/4 inch gap on the long edge, but this doesn't seem to have adversely affected the cooking so I don't see it as a problem. The pot itself seems to be holding up just fine.

"Another cracked slow cooker", Just providing another data point--I bought this slow cooker despite some of the negative reviews, assuming that actual problems were rare. 40 minutes into my first recipe, I heard a snapping noise from the kitchen; the pot had cracked, and was leaking. KitchenAid told me that this was not a known issue, and offered to replace it, but I opted to send it back to Amazon.com instead, and to look for a more reputable model of slow cooker. I've given this two stars instead of one because it looks like it would be a good slow cooker if it did not crack.

"A fiasco", I waited 18 months to place this review, and I can finally say that my slow cooker gets no more chances. Three fatal design flaws finally did me in:

1) three cracked ceramic inserts, the last one cracking while cooking and making an ungodly mess,
2) a warped lid and a gasket on that lid that never sealed, so there was always steam escaping, and
3) don't let the multiple settings fool you. I frequently would cook on the BUFFET setting, since every other setting produced a vigorous, rolling boil. Fool me thrice...

"Horrible, Horrible Experience. 4 ceramic crocks later.", Delighted to get this beautiful product...until I used it. Craaack! What was that noise? The ceramic crock cracking during the first use. Oh, well. Just an exception to the rule. This is KitchenAid, right? The best, right? So, I wrote to the company and they sent me another ceramic crock. That cracked on the first use also. I wrote again, and they sent me a replacement appliance and a return shipping form. I sent the first slow cooker back and was delighted to have a new cooker, whose crock cracked during the first use. So, I notified the company. This time I was very upset. They replaced the ceramic crock, which dutifully cracked this time during the second use. I'm done! I have NEVER had a slow cooker that behaved this way, and I can't believe a fine company like KitchenAid is allowing these cookers to be sold. Let the buyer beware!
