"Product not as advertised" This coffee maker is advertised as a 12 cup, it is NOT, it is an 8-cup coffee maker. Ordered one to replace a 10-cup that isn't working as well as when we bought it and wanted a larger pot, expected to get a larger version of what we have, instead got a SMALLER version of what we have. Have returned it since it is not as advertised. "coffee pot" wouldn't buy again filter basket always slide out had a mess to clean up if didn't watch "Happy but needed modifications" I received mine as a Christmas gift. After reading the instructions, I did not like the way it was to be mounted. I did not intend to have bolts and nuts sticking up in my cabinet, so I improvised and screwed the mounting bracket onto a mounting board which was screwed into the bottom of the cabinet. Mine worked fine the first several times then I had the same problem as many have complained about the basket popping forward and the basket subsequently overflowing. It seems that the spring for the sneak a sip lever underneath the basket is too strong. Instead of keeping the drip hole open, it pushes the basket forward causing the drip hole to be closed and coffee can no longer drip out. I removed the lever and have had no problems since. I love the thermal carafe. My coffee stays hot for hours. I really like this coffee maker, but only because I was able to improvise and work around the design flaws. I am quite disappointed that the company has not come up with solutions for the consumer. "Spacemaker Coffeemaker Overflow" I've had my Black and Decker Spacemaker Coffeemaker about a week, and it's overflowed three times. Same issue--the basket pops out and blocks the flow of water into the pot spilling hot water and grounds all over the counter. I've emailed Black and Decker to notify them of this issue and ask how they're addressing current and future customer issues with this problem. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this unit, especially since you have to drill holes in your cabinets to install it and taking it back would be a major undertaking. "Horrible Design!" This is the worst coffee pot ever. I have the one with the thermal carafe, and it seems to have been designed to spill. You are supposed to be able to loosen the lid and pour with it still on, but this just results in coffee coming out from all sides of the lid and scalding your hand. When you remove the lid, it's not much better... you have to tip the pot so far over to get the last 4-5 cups out you might as well just empty it onto your countertop to begin with. And the spout is useless, it doesn't channel the coffee into the cup at all, the coffee just goes everywhere. It really makes me wonder HOW many people had to test and approve this design before it was released to the mass market?? Haven't humans been making pouring vessels for millenia? I think the cave people got it better....

Black & Decker ODC460 Spacemaker Coffeemaker, White
Why I buy this one ? - 12-Cup space maker coffeemaker - Programmable clock or timer with sneak-a-cup feature - Includes removable water reservoir and filter basket - Features auto-shut off; easy-to-clean glass carafe - Uses Cup Cake Shaped Filters What our customer's say! "Misleading description", I bought this coffee maker because it was described as a 12 cup coffee maker. After I received it I installed it in our travel trailer and we didn't use it for a couple of weeks. Of course, I disposed of all of the packaging. When I used it I discovered that it was only an 8 cup unit and now I'm stuck with it...I hate getting shafted like this on mail order products. Then I find another review stating the same thing and that the description STILL has not been changed. Amazon, shame on you and I feel like you owe a lot of people some sort of compensation. I guess I've made my last Amazon purchase! "Hot coffee", I was concerned when I bought this because of some of the reviews which spoke of spillage problems. The only difficulty I have had was learning to not fill the water container over the 8 cup line. I was used to filling my older Black and Decker to the very top. there is a small hole in the back of the water container that prevents overfill by leaking the extra water out. The carafe keeps the coffee HOT for several hours. It automatically shuts off when done brewing so the coffee always tastes fresh. I had some adjusting to do because the pot is not clear, so I couldn't see how much coffee was left, but I would rather have hot coffee. I also had to adjust from 12 cups to 8. I wish it came in a larger capacity Yes the lid is tricky to put back on, just need to pay attention. The filter basket is the same as the other Black and Decker under cabinet models, you MUST push it all the way in, but again, just pay attention. It is not physically difficult, just firm I love my spacemaker coffee makers and whenever I need to replace one, I search for the Black and Decker Spacemaker because it is so nice to have it under the cabinets with not spilling water as you pour, no need to keep the area above the pot clear to provide for pouring water. I have and will again purchase this product Black & Decker ODC460 Spacemaker Coffeemaker, White "Do not purchase", We own a motorhome and have limited counter space so we must use an under the counter coffee pot. This is the 2nd one we have had to purchase in 2 years - the first was the same model but different design. For this model, the coffee grounds basket keeps popping out - we had to put a piece of tape on the basket to keep it from sliding out when you remove the carafe. The carafe itself is very difficult to pour the coffee. The opening is not large enough and you practically have to hold upside down in oder to pour. "Whew! Very Happy", This product is beautiful. I was very nervous about purchasing this item since most of the reviews were not good. However, I decided to take a chance since a couple of buyers expressed they were very pleased and did not have the problems as described by others. I am not having any of the leaking problems described by others. I love the look of item. It was bit of a challenge installing it, but once up it has done a great job! "great coffemaker", One of the reasons I ordered this coffeemaker was because I cant find a replacement carafe anywhere for my spacemaker coffeemaker and I really like the spacemaker design. I love the thermal carafe, although I do wish I ordered the larger one, mine is an 8 cup, but i drink large mugs of coffee, so you really only get 3-4 mugs of coffee. I also love it in white with the stainless steel accents.I read about the pot dribbling as you poured it out, but mine does not do that. I have only had this one for a couple months, and the only real problem with it is that you must have the carafe pushed all of the way under the filter basket so that the coffee will drain down into the carafe, I've had one big mess to clean up when the carafe was not pushed under the filter basket all the way and all the coffee built up in the basket then spilled out all over my counter. So other than being really careful to make sure its set up properly, I really love this coffemaker and no glass carafe to break! ![]() Read this reviews before You buy... "BAD design, dangerous!", DO NOT buy this product! We have used it 4 times and every time you turn it on to brew a pot of coffee it overflows streaming hot coffee and grounds all over the counter and floor. The filter basket pops out if you push the pot in even slightly too far causing it to overflow. Also if too much steam builds up in the filter basket (ie., brewing a full pot) it will repeatedly pop out all on it's own. When it pops out the valve closes and then overlows everything. If you want to actually use this pot you have to stand there are watch it the whole time it is brewing to keep pushing the filter basket back in. I called B&D about the problem after just 4 days. They told me that the problem is the filter basket and because I didn't have a receipt it would cost me $21 to get a new one. How a new filter basket would fix this I have no idea. I checked some other websites and I am obviously not the only one with this problem. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! "This one is bad; there is a good Spacemaker coffeemaker", I've used Black and Decker spacemaker coffeemakers for ten years, had a miserable one with my last (this B & D with a thermal pot) that I used and threw away when after three years it stopped completely. That one is hopeless for many reasons described in reviews. After researching over the counter coffeemakers thoroughly I settled on a new one, the Black and Decker Spacemaker ODC440B (B is for black, I think). It's not thermal, though. Holding my breath I ordered it from an Amazon store. It was perfect, except for one flaw that is easily overcome. The timer races ahead when brand new. I could not get it to set the coffee to start at the right time because the timer went too fast. I called customer service at the company and they admitted the flaw. They said to unplug the coffee maker, wait ten minutes, and plug it in again. I did that, actually waited two hours, plugged it in and reset the timer. It worked perfectly. However several days later when I didn't finish the coffee in the two hours the timer allots, I pushed the On button to get the heating plate to continue to keep the coffee warm. It did that but that day the timer started to race ahead again. I unplugged it again, waited a couple of hours and plugged it in again. It reset itself perfectly again. Apparently the timer gets confused when you ask it to keep coffee heated without water in the resevoir to brew a fresh pot. Other problems I have read about, the coffee running over, appear to be caused when you do not push the water resevoir in hard enough to hear the lock click or when you don't push the coffee pot in on the warming plate far enough to hear it click. When you do both, the ODC440B Black & Decker coffeemaker works well, makes good coffee, keeps it hot and fresh for two hours. Perhaps similar white B & D spacemaker coffeemakers will work well that way too. Mine sits on a slide-out tray above my counter. I didn't attach it permanently to the cabinet above the counter. I couldn't find any company that makes a similar over-the-counter coffeemaker, but if you use this one correctly, it's great. "Switch Failure", I've owned two of this unit in the last couple of years and my son owned one too. It is a quality unit except for one little problem. Within a year, the switch fails. It happened on all three of ours. It's not worth paying $50-$65 for a coffeemaker that within a year is junk because it will no longer turn on. Spend your money elsewhere. "What a mess!", Everyone at our house has flooded the counter with this darn thing! The carafe design is awful. Spills/drips every time. Also, the "high tech" look with grey buttons and labels on the faux stainless panel make the buttons hard to read. The grey digital display adds to the problem. I'd give it to the Salvation Army but they have never done anything to me! "Very Disapointed", I wouldn't advise anyone to purchase this unit. The pot doesn't pour with out spilling and the thermo caraf doesn't keep the coffee hot let alone warm as the statement in the features states. I bought this unit for the space saving features since I can't find another company that offers the under cabinet type unit will probably build my own. Since Black and Decker can't seem to get it right. ![]() |
