Others say...
"So much more than it seems." When I got this, my first thought was "Look at that sad piece of plastic junk." It looks flimsy and cheap. I was proven wrong when I took an onion to it. It was sturdy, stable, and made short work of any vegetable I could find. Cleanup is fast and it doesn't take up much space. It turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for in a mandoline. A few notes: The included handguard is worthless. It doesn't hold food. So chuck it into the garbage and just learn to be more careful around sharp objects. There is no blade guard for storage. There really should be. Like the rest of the thing, the blade looks like cheap plastic even thought it is not. I carefully saved the safety sticker that came with the blade and I put that back on after I've washed and dried the thing. "Excellent...but" This is a great slicer and a great price. You also have to be VERY careful. Actually, my husband is using it since he is less of a klutz.... The little protective holder doesn't work too well for certain things. Glad we got it, but be careful. "Kyocera slicer - VERY SHARP!" I couldn't wait to get this slicer because my garden was overflowing with cucumbers and slicing them the old fashioned way was getting old. The slicer is super sharp and worked great. However, be sure to use the guard because I didn't and that super sharp blade took a large chunk of my fingertip when I got too close. I wasn't using the guard because it is kind of small and the items you're slicing tend to move around when you're using it (at least if you're trying to go fast). But, I will certainly be using it in the future. This accident was no fault of the slicer as there was a piece of tape with the warning to use the guard stretched over the blade so there's no way you can't see it when you open the slicer. I still love it and will use it often. I think the ceramic blade is the key. "slicer" Kyocera Adjustable Mandolin Slicer, Red Great product. Works very easy and cleaning is a breeze. Slicer could be a bit wider and available in white "Not Up To Expectations" I got this mandoline after buying the Zyliss a few weeks earlier. Was I dissapointed! This unit is like a plastic toy compared to the Zyliss mandoline. The ceramic blade does NOT cut as sharp and well as the metal one and it tends to tear ripe tomatoes. About the only positive thing I can say about the Kyocera mandoline is that its handy because its so small and compact.. but its not near the quality nor does it perform anywhere close to the Zyliss mandoline. Check the prices here on Amazon and spend the couple dollars more for the Zyliss.

What our customer's say! "great gadget", This is an excellent product, very reasonably priced. It is small, unlike other mandolines, so it takes up very little space, but works very well and produces even slices in no time. "Must-have kitchen tool", I love this slicer! It makes slicing anything and everything superfast and super-easy. I'll lay it over a big bowl and do radishes, beets, carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, scallions, anything...on top of my favorite salad greens. One tool to clean up at the end. The ceramic blade is sharp and impressive. The slicer is easy and fast to use and clean. What else could one ask for? I use this tool 3-4 times a week and recommend it highly for anyone. "Kyocera Adjustable Mandolin Slicer", Pro's: The ease of use is amazing. I love the fact that it fits in the drawer and just needs to be pulled out of the draw to use. It is extremely sharp and cuts perfectly. In the short time I've had this item I've used it more time than my big mandolin slicer. Con's: Only one - I wish I could get a 1/4 inch cut. The 4 adjustments go from paper thin to approximately a little less than 1/8 inch. "mandolin slicer", Very easy to work with. Blade very sharp. Be sure to use the hand guard with all slicing. The instructions stress this. Easy to store and clean. Very satisfied with this product. "Adjustable Mandolin", I really like having this mandoline, but I wonder if another model would have been better. The blade is nice and sharp, but the guard is ineffective because it can't hold the thing (vegetable or whatever) you are cutting - it has short little prongs on it which are supposed to hold the item being cut but I find them too short to be any use. The thickness adjustment doesn't have many settings but actually they are sufficient for my purposes. ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "perfect for the little things", Mandolin by name - but really its a gentrified truffle slicer. Very few thickness settings, but enough to accomplish the small tasks - mostly quick and perfect sliced garlic, small onions, a rib of celery or carrot. Basically it is helpful when you need "mirepoix / mise en place" for two. Obviously the hand guard is a joke, and it cleans up quick and easy in the sink. I'm not going to go into detail on the blade - if you know anything about these things, you know that Kyocera ceramic blades are the best in the business. "B Rieger", A handy slicer, easy to use and very. very sharp! I would purchase again! "It Slices!", I am pretty good with a knife, and I have a full sized mandolin, so it took me a while to come up with an excuse to buy one of these. I and glad I did because it is great. The blade is incredibly sharp, the size adjustments are easy to use, and set a good functional widths, and the whole thing works really well. The hand guard is either useless, or I have no concept of how to use it... Either way, I took some beautiful 0.5mm cross sections of my thumb before I realizes how sharp and fast a cutting cut I had. "Versatile and Great Value", 2 great points about this mandolin: ceramic and dishwasher-safe. It is not the most aesthetically pleasing mandolin, surely the shiny metal ones look more professional and flashier. However, for the home-chef who favors functionality over looks, you won't be disappointed with this model. It also has a lip on the bottom making it easy to fit over the edge of a bowl. One of my biggest pet-peeves about metal mandolins is that they are so difficult to clean. With all the nooks and crannies food gets stuck in and the risk of rust, you have to invest a comparatively significant amount of time in cleaning. The ceramic blade stays sharp and is superior in my view to any metal blade: you won't have to sharpen it and it does not rust. The only drawback to ceramic is that it is fragile, so you may want to be careful where you store this tool. Haphazardly tossing it in the same drawer you throw your meat tenderizer might not be the best idea. At ~20$, this tool is a great value. You will spend more on a quality metal mandolin and it will rust. Additionally, if you do happen to accidentally break the blade, it's only 20$ to replace. "The Perfect mandoline", Although I also bought a "professional mandoline", I thought this would make a handy little item. Boy - was I right! I use this mandoline more than the professional. Why? It is convenient! It's very sharp (the porcelein blade is much sharper than metal), the hand guard is comfortable and easy to use, the whole device is dishwasher safe, and it takes little counter space and little storage space. I use it to slice veggies for everything from sandwiches to tostadas to soups to breakfast burritos. Here's what it does not do: Although the blade is "adjustable", only the biggest setting works correctly. The smaller settings makes mush of your veggies. Also, it is not quite wide enough. At the thickest part of a big round onion, it would have to be turned sideways. Finally, it only has 1 blade and so it only does the one style of cut. I highly recommend it. It is so easy to use that you will use it frequently. In fact, when you think: "Should I drag out the big mandoline?" You will say "No, I'll just use my little one (the Kyocera)". ![]() |
