Others say...

"Decent but could be better."
Pros: The is the perfect size to make one cup at a time. Dishwasher safe and plastic means easy to clean and durable enough to take on the road (or trail). The included directions are clear and concise. Low price.

Cons: The seal at the edge of the filter is just a silicone wiper seal (sort of like a squeegee), and does not seal with enough authority to keep all grounds from slipping past, though only a couple and with a little bit of practice, even less. The instructions suggest adding any cream and sugar through the opening in the lid, which is way to small for the task, at least without making a mess. You would be better off to pour your brew into another mug and doing your mixing there. Additionally, unless you pour your tea into another mug, this is not a great choice, as the press would merely hold the leaves down and not stop the steeping process. If you need this for home/office use, you are better off with a glass model (such as one from their Chambord line Bodum Chambord 12-Cup (6 US cups) Coffee Press) which has a better filter/seal system and larger capacity.

"great little gadget!"
It takes a few brews to get your preferred flavor, but it's a good and quick cuppa java. I bought it for backpacking, but I use it all the time at home for a single cup.

"Eh"
I got it for tea. And it doesn't keep the tea leaves down on the other hand, all the water trapped bellow the net doesn't spill.... so it's fine enough to keep water down, but still lets tea leaves through? I'd love a physics person to explain it to me.

PROS: Super insulated nice spout, and can use without the cover feels like a glass.

"Great travelling mug"
I own 4 different brands of travelling mugs. I am a big coffee and tea drinker. There is no one brand that satisfies me completely. But this one has its pluses. It is dishwasher safe, and most starbucks mugs are not advertised as so. It does not spill when I am running. The Nissan one might be safer if you completely invert it quickly, but running and moving it at all angles in between is what counts for me. Also, since there is no metal, I throw it in the microwave for the milk while I wait for the espresso. It saves me a cup to hold the milk in. (I screw the filter off when I don't want to use it as a press. So it is really a 2 in one if you use loose tea or a bag.)

It doesn't hold warmth for as long as the Nissan though...

"I'd buy another"
This is a great product but it as other reviewers mentioned there are some small drawbacks. HOWEVER, in my opinion this is still a great product.

- The plunger doesn't go all of the way down. I think they did this in order to make sure the plunger will fit down in the lid no matter how much coffee grounds or tea leaves you have in the mug.
- The seal on the plunger isn't perfect - you'll need to press down slowly instead of just pushing the plunger as fast as you can.
- It is close to a perfect seal but if you hold it upside down it will drip drip drip. For most purposes this is fine but I've got some OXO travel mugs that create a perfect seal (though they don't double as a coffee press.)

So here's how I brew my coffee in the travel press:
1) Boil water in another container either in the microwave or on the stove.
2) Add grounds for about 1.5 servings. If you ground your own beans go for a courser grind instead of a fine powder here. I also go ahead and add any sugar and cream I want before adding the water. This resolves some of the problems other reviewers were having with trying to add these after pressing the grounds.
3) I add enough boiling water to cover the grounds and wait a few seconds. Sometimes I swirl it a bit to make sure the sugar dissolves at this point. Then I go ahead and add the remaining boiling water.
4) Close the lid and wait about 3 minutes for the coffee to brew. More for even darker and less for a lighter brew. You'll probably need to experiment a little to get the coffee brewed to your liking (I basically made some good tasting espresso my first time with too many grounds and too long on the brewing time.)
5) SLOWLY press down the plunger. As with most press pots you may have a few grounds sneak through and also if your grounds are too fine they may go through the filter and into the coffee you'll drink.

I'm really happy with this - it brews my coffee better than my existing coffee maker so I've been using this and making one cup coffee for myself every couple of days or so for the last two weeks. For about $10 it's a great deal.

What our customer's say!

"Ehhh...it's okay", The biggest problem I have with this product is that the plunger doesn't fit snugly enough to the sides of the cup, which means there's a fair amount of coffee grounds still swirling around. However, the double-walled cup is awesome in keeping the drink hot for quite awhile.

"Amazing Press!", If you are the kind of person who likes a strong cup of coffee and who wants to take that amazig coffee everywhere, this is the product for you! I find at my office the coffee to be dull and watered down. I like to bring this from my house, with the grounds in it, and then I add hot water to it, cream, sugar, mix it up, then put the top on (which has the press attached) and voila! There is even a nifty snap-shut little lid over the mouth piece. It might get a few weird looks from on lookers, but it brews an amazing cup of coffee.

"Good Coffee but Poor Product", Overall, this made great coffee and tea. I bought it to augment my glass Bodum french press and found it worked adequately well for a little over a year. I ran into problems over time however:
+ The filter is sealed using a rubber O-ring which deteriotated and grew stained with use.
+ The plastic thermos cracked after about 8-months, and finally came apart after a year.
+ Unlike the metal/glass used in the larger presses, the plastic in this tended to hold onto odors and flavors.
+ The lid doesn't seal securely so you may find yourself splashing some hot coffee/water on yourself.

Overall, a great product but don't count on it lasting forever.

"Don't waste your money", I bought one of these at my local Starbucks (same brand, same mug). It is the biggest piece of garbage. I am a big tea drinker. Even the large leaf teas sneak through the sides of the plunger. The rubber ring around the plunger gives too easily. I thought what a great idea, I can brew right in my mug rather than through my tea filer and transfer it to a travel mug. No go. Not worth the aggravation.

I couldn't imagine how many coarsely ground coffee grinds I would have in my mug when I have a ton of large tea leaves.

I am surprised, since I have other Bodum products that are actually very good.

Do yourself a favor, save your money.

"Mediocre - lots of grounds in my coffee", I found the Bodum 16-ounce coffee press to be tolerable, but not as good as other coffee presses. The flimsy plastic seal around the strainer often allows coffee grounds to get past. I tried various brewing techniques but I couldn't get consistently good results. I switched back to my glass-and-metal coffee press.

I expected to get two mugs of coffee from the 16-ounce press, but I only got one and a half mugs, due to the "dead space" below the plunger. I was also irritated that they delivered a coffee press with the Bodum logo "give up bad coffee for good". I ordered a plain one because I don't like advertising!

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Weak Seal", Really lets too many grounds through. And it is best to find one with the screw cap grooves on the outside, not on inside.
Oh. The cream and sugar go in BEFORE you put the lid on (ref to previous review.

"Not good at all", Given the reputation of the Bodum press, I am extremely dissapointed in this product. The press has a weak rubber gasket that does not seal well. You will definately get a big swig of grounds if you chug the last bit...quite unpleasant. I also have the Big Sky Bistro press (bought at REI for about $20). It is a FAR SUPERIOR product.

Starbucks is currently carrying this model on the shelf for about $11.

"Great coffee at a great price", This thing is awesome! Its small and easy to take on the go and easy to keep clean (even when I forget and leave coffee in it for a couple days). very easy to use. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants the best coffee there is.

"Travel Press", This is a great, quality-made product if you are looking for something small and mobile to make coffee in. I highly recommend it!

"nice coffee maker", Got 2 of these to use when camping. Add coffee, boiling water, makes it's own sauce.

The edge of the rubber that slides down the walls of the container to weaken fast and start to allow a little sediment into your drinking area, usually sinks to bottom, so don't guzzle to the last drop, works good enough....
