"Don't waste your money or time"
I bought this from williams and sanoma and it is buy far the biggest peice of jung there is. My wife and I tired to wisk salad dressing and the unit bogged down and quit. We though it was just to thick but after numerous attempts we just gave up. For a kitchen utensil that cost 100.00 you would think it could at least mix salad dressing. Don't buy this it will be a waste of your money.

"I love this--don't understand the bad reviews!"
I'm not sure if the bad reviews are written by people that have read the instructions, but it seems clear to me that they are not using this product correctly. First of all, if you are making a drink that has ice included, you always use the stainless steel blender. If it was just a milkshake with ice cream, then you can use the smoothie attachment. Personally, my breakfast drink in the morning always has some ice mixed with soymilk, soyogurt, flax meal, soy protein powder, stevia and flavoring (I use Frontier). The Breville works perfectly every time. The "stalling out" occurs to protect the motor--not a problem, though. The mixing jug is polycarbonate--I prefer glass, but that is simple enough to change. The polycarbonate jug is pretty tough, though. The Breville BCS500XL is heavier than the corded models, but I much prefer the extra weight to the cord. When I use it to puree soups (which is SOOOO much better than trying to use a regular blender) I prefer not to have a cord hanging across the counter and stovetop. I really love this product!! If you question anything about it, just buy it from a good dealer that accepts returns without hassles.

In summary, this unit takes up little space on the countertop, is light enough for a wimp like me, is easy to use (two buttons have to be pushed at once--can you handle that?), is actually a 9.6 volt and works like a dream! Did I mention that I love this product?!!

"Stalls out"
I am now on my second Breville mixer since March (six months). I use the thing twice a day to blend one half cup cottage cheese with three tablespoons of fish oil & a little milk. After a month or two, the mixer will stall out. At first I thought I was relaxing the pressure on the buttons but don't think that's it. I'll be returning this second one to Williams Sonoma for store credit. I'm here on amazon to find a different brand. The Breville does clean up very easily -- perhaps with less intensive use it would be a fine machine -- not for me.

"Very poorly built"
This blender was very poorly built. The plastic mixing jug cracked within a few weeks. The stainless steel blender attachment (which is held together with plastic, not steel), broke within the a few months. I strongly advise anyone thinking of purchasing this -- or anything else made by Breville -- to avoid this brand. I had a Cuisinart hand blender that lasted more than 8 years.

"Lacking in power"
Not sure about the reviewers that think this heavy gizmo is powerful. I have been using a Braun corded immersion blender for over a year and it is far more powerful and cost $30 when I bought it new last year. Bought this Breville for the cordless convenience, but it stalls out often, even on full charge. The built in rechargeable batteries are only replaceable by sending it back to the manufacturer, and the cordless unit is much heavier than a corded unit so this probably won't be cheap when the time comes. As mentioned in other reviews, the power and speed switches are inconvenient and would probably not be recommended for anyone with arthritis or anyone lacking in manual dexterity. The "smoothie" attachment is made of cheap plastic, including the "blade" so if you like your smoothies with frozen fruit or ice, forget about using this attachment. For ice crushing you must use another attachment, but if you are a bodybuilder trying make a drink by mixing protein powders, supplement powders and ice cubes, you better get one of the many other immersions blenders on the market that sell for a third of the price, because this Breville just isn't powerful enough to do it without stalling unless you add more liquid than you probably care to drink. The cordless feature is nice, and for that it gets a star. It gets another for looking adequately attractive and for coming with all the attachments mentioned in the manual (i.e., nothing extra to buy). If you don't need the cordless feature, you might want to save your money and buy a more powerful, versatile version of this product for a fraction of the price.

What our customer's say!

"Meets my power and durablity needs even after a year of use", I purchased this Breville Cordless Immersion Blender a year ago and have been satisfied with my purchase. I bought it because I frequently make smoothies (at least 3-4 times per week) and puree soups and wanted something more convenient than lugging down my full-sized blender. Because I have a small galley kitchen I also wanted something that could sit on my countertop while taking up minimal space. This has fit the bill for me.
When I first received this blender I found it a bit tricky to use as for safety purposes you have two hold down two buttons simultaneously, the Power button and Speed button. At first it was very awkward and I found myself using two hands, but over time I have become more comfortable with this arrangement and can do it mindlessly with one hand.
From a power standpoint, this blender meets my needs. I use it to blend thick dips and smoothies with frozen fruit and it does so efficiently. I use it so often infact that my regular blender no longer gets much use. As another reviewer mentioned it does stall out periodically to protect the motor (and does so more frequently with thick mixtures or ones containing ice), but this hasn't caused me a problem. It is functional again within seconds so it does not really slow down my preparation. I would agree it would be much better if this wasn't necessary, but haven't found it to be too annoying. I have also never had a problem with it running out of a charge when I am using it. I always keep it in the charging base between uses and as a result have always found it has enough power for what I need.
I have also found the product to be very durable despite using it 4+ times per week. I frequently wash the mixing jug in the top rack of the dishwasher and haven't had any problems with cracking or chipping. Similarly my smoothie attachment and ice crushing blade are both in perfect condition.
Besides the fantastic power and durability the thing I love most about this blender is how portable it is. I do not have many outlets in my kitchen so I appreciate being able to use wherever I need to without having to locate the appropriate outlet. Because of this I blend a lot of soups, beans, etc. right on the stove top which is very convenient and much safer for me than having to pour it in a blender. I've also found that using it makes it much easier to control the exact texture I want. I can easily choose to make something extra smooth or a little chunky.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this product. After a year of frequent use it has held up well and continues to meet my expectations. My only gripe is that I wish it didn't require me to push two buttons to use it or that the buttons were positioned differently so as to be easier to control with one hand. However, this is something I have become used to over time with frequent use. I will also say that not only am I willing to give it 4 stars but I have also "put my money where my mouth is" and purchased a Breville Dual-Disc Juice Extractor, which to me is a testament to how much I trust this brand and their products.

"Never worked right", This blender never worked right and I should have sent it back before the warranty was up. It had trouble charging and would stall when I used it. I thought it was operator error (the buttons are awkward) but I've finally decided it's the machine not me. I will be looking for a different brand to replace this product.

"No replacement blades?", I think my problem with stalling out is that after six months of making smoothies (including ice-crushing) with the blade, I'm guessing the blade is a bit worn out. so the safety stop when the blade is "caught" and won't turn -- meant to protect the motor -- is now activating every two seconds, even when the blade is cutting a frozen blueberry. that would be all well and good IF I could buy a replacement blade, but I can't find one on the Breville site. Not very eco-friendly, or economical! Am I missing something?

"Stalls out constantly", Hi,
I purchased this blender primarily to make smoothies. I have owned two other hand blenders in my life and bought this for its cordless capability. As other reviews state, it lacks power and stalls out constantly. To blend a smoothly with a handful of frozen fruits it stalls out maybe 10-20 times in the process. I called customer service to complain and they said it was probably defective. I sent it back and received a replacement only to find the new one has the exact same problem.

If you are using to make milkshakes and to blend only liquids, this will probably be fine. If not, save your money and buy a different hand blender.

"Breville Cordless Hand blender", I don't recommend this brand of hand blender. As you can see in the picture the stem is made up of two parts, stainless steel and plastic, that are glued together. On my appliance those pieces came unglued. Even though I have tried to glue them back together it is not a permanent fix. And no, I do not wash them in the dishwasher.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"Look Ma, no power cord!", This is one powerful immersion blender. So far we have used the product for making deviled eggs and lots of mixed drinks. This product has no problem crushing ice! The only criticism I have is the button configuration to turn the thing on. You must hold down button #1 before hitting button #2 (safety issue). Not easy to work with at first.

"Replace your blender; use a cordless immersion blender instead!", I hated the standard blender and the noise it made when in use. Plus the clean-up was horrible and all the parts to be put together!
This cordless is GREAT!. Clean-up is a snap and although my wife was reluctant to have another gadget she is now a complete convert! Great for sauces;soups;pancakes;crepes;dutch babies etc.

"Whizzing away", After struggling with a food processor and blender trying to puree a bean soup I decided it was time to step it up and get an immersion blender. My boyfriend is IN LOVE with his cordless hand tools so thought it must be the way to go..it is. This blender is easy to use, easy to assemble and clean. It has plenty of power and makes quick work of pureeing and blending. I highly reccommend this produuct.
