"Buy with confidence" Pros: -Battery life is excellent. It does last up to 5 hours, and the lowest brightness setting (suggested in order to achieve the 5 hours of continuous battery playback) is NOT unsatisfactory, I usually set it between 0 and 8 (out of 16) and the image is still plenty bright (16 is way too bright for my taste). -It plays Divx files without any hassle. AVIs, MPGs, it's all good. No problems accepting any media. All my burnt media plays like charm. -The look of the player is indeed sleek, very high-end look. Cons: -Battery makes it a bit bulkier, but it lasts 5 hours so I won't complain much. The picture here doesn't show it. -I wish it had a slot for sd cards or a usb port for a flash-drive. Then again, that would make it more expensive. Conclusions: This player delivers what it promises and I'm extremely satisfied with it. The price I paid (just over 100) was way more than worth it. "Toshiba SD player; good value, works great" I have had this player for about a month. It has worked flawlessly. It plays both new DVD's and DVD's we have created. I bought it for my 7 year old daughter to take on trips. It is a little bulky, mainly due to the size (we upgraded from a 7" model), but overall we are very pleased. The picture is good for a unit this size. We also have had no issues with the speakers or sound as we primarily use headphones to watch DVD's. I have not been able to test the battery charge time as we usually use the provided automobile power supply adapter. "Excellent DVD Player!!!" It has a sharp and bright image. My two years old son learned to play his favorite movie in a few tries, now he uses it every afternoon. By the way, I'm free to do my homework while he's watching a movie. "money down the drain" we bought this dvd and worked somewhat well. 3 months later after warranty expired, It quit working. says that it can not read disc. took it back to the store where we purchased it and they ran diagnostics on it. They could not get it to work either. basically we spent 169.00 on a dvd player that worked for 3 months. the company nor any one else will help us unless we dish out 49$ for shipping and another 50$ for repairs. I could spend a little bit more money and get a brand new one with a more helpfull company that product may last longer than my hair color. not even worth one star. "A portable dvd player just ok" I had another Toshiba portable dvd player. It was an amazing one. Perfect image. closed caption... The image of the sdp 1900 is barely ok. And there's not a lot of fonctions. Plus, the player refuse to play some disc... I'm desapointed but what to expect for 150 $ ? Buy something else

What our customer's say! "Great when it worked", We paid extra for a good name brand product that had good reviews. We wanted this exclusively for road trips with the kids in the van so we baby'd this thing. For the first road trip, it worked like a charm. We wouldn't let the kids touch it, kept it in it's special soft case we paid extra for so it would stay nice and last for years. The following year we pulled it out for our next road trip. We headded out and started it up for the kids and it didn't work. Every disk said invalid disk. Extremely disappointed that we basically only used it for about 24-30 hrs. Meanwhile our first cheap Mintek 7" portable player we bought 2 or 3 years earlier is still working fine. the screen has some black streaks because one of the kids stepped on it but it still works. We use it to connect to our TV and the kids have used and abused this thing. We are surprised it still works. Back to the Toshiba. Even though we hardly used it, it was over a year later before we found out it didn't work anymore so the warranty is over and it would cost over $50 just to have someone look at it. Repairs would probably be another $50. I think we will stick with the cheap disposable players if we are only gonna get 1 years worth out of it anyway. who knows we may get lucky like we did with the Mintek. "Defective Product", I purchased this unit for use in the car using an audio/video adapter. Since it played through the existing video system (VHS) in my van, I have no comments on the audio/video ... never really used it. Having said that, we went through two of these units. The first one lasted probably 8-9 months. We had issues all along and would just get frustrated and change DVD's or something. Eventually, however, it reached a point it would not play anything. The DVD would spin - very quickly - and the player would not read the disk. Realizing that you always can end up with a lemon, we returned it - we luckily had purchased the store service plan. Player No. 2 was worse. We had the same problems right out of the box. It failed much quicker than the first - less than 2 mos from start to finish - and with the same problem as the first. Given two players that behaved the same way, I have concluded Toshiba just designed a crappy product. At the end of the day, we returned No. 2 for a Sony. We were out some money (for the extended warranty) but not as much as if we had no warranty. We just got the Sony and haven't even tried it but I wouldn't recommend the Toshiba. "Garbage", Used four times, now out of warrantee and will not read disk. JUNK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Pleased with the dvd player", The dvd player is easy to use, seems solid, and presents a clear image. Sound isn't the greatest, could be a little louder at its maximum volume, but most times, that has not been an issue. We like it. "works well but need improvement", I bought this to use at the gym on a treadmill to make workout less boring. I watch a video and time goes faster. The only problem is the control buttons are the wrong color making them difficult to read for an older person... Unlike my previous one, it does restart where I turned it off which is why I bought this model.... That feature is a must... ![]()
Read this reviews before You buy... "nice portable, didnt last long", I got this for Christmas , read all the reviews in here and they are fairly accurate . The screen is a bit grainy for reading text ,but really its fine easy to watch a movie on , yes the drive is a bit noisy when it loads the dvd , quiets down after its running. The Battery last a long time. I do wish it would handle more formats update 11-08 It's dead now 10 months would have done better at the pawn shop for 20 bucks. I would click on 1 star if it would let me "DivX yes DVD-R no", I was looking for a movie player that would support DVD-R discs and DivX/XviD movies. I originally bought the smaller SD-P1850 which worked fine for a month until the motor stopped working. Replaced it at the store with the SD-P1900 (the 1850 was now unavailable). Unfortunately the SD-P1900 does not handle DVD-R discs very well, frequent hangings and skippings, very bad for the movie watching experience. I was using Memorex and a Philips SPD3000CC DVD-recorder (Memorex DVD-R is a certified media with the DVD-recorder). I called Toshiba support who recommended using some other brand of DVD-R media but they could not tell me which one:-) I bought a stack of Sony DVD-R discs (also certified for use with my DVD-recorder), these work better but still not perfect. Normal DVD's work fine though. Some reviewers have complained on the low screen resolution. Text looks awful but images (movies) are properly down-sampled and look very nice. The colors are great. Laptop monitors may have higher resolution but normally don't have as vivid colors. The sound volume is a bit low and a tad thin but works well enough when there is not too much noise. At least my daughter does not complain. The unit might be heavy and clunky with the battery mounted below the player but I think battery life is good. A 12V car cable is included so you don't need the battery when using the player in the car. pros: + DivX/XviD support + vivid colors + long battery life cons: - does not handle DVD-R media (Memorex, Sony) well "excellent product, ", This has been an excellent high quality product. A ton of features, good screen size, clear picture, easy to use, and seems well made and durable. I only have a couple very minor complaints, the glossy outside does show fingerprints easy, sound quality from the built in speakers could be better (it's pretty "tinny" sounding, kind of like a small handheld radio) but i use headphones anyway so thats not important to me, and although it has a screensaver, it only works if the disc is stopped, it would be nice to have when you are listening to a music cd and there's just the static track listing. overall i am very happy with it and would definately recommend it, especially for the price! "Worked Well till it Died", The Toshiba worked quite well for the limited time it was operational. I bought it for a cross country flight and an extended hotel stay. The unit worked perfectly until one evening I plugged it in to charge. The next morning I found that it had not charged at all. Come to find out that the AC Adapter was faulty. Now I had no way to charge the unit which ment I could no longer use it. I called Toshiba who told me they would order me a new AC Adapter. That was in August. After reapeated calls to both CSRs and Managers I am still being told it is on back order. Unfortunately I was unable to return it within the 90 days required for most returns because the box and other parts were in storage waiting for us to finish our move. Just Beware. "Meets Basic Needs Competently", Used primarily in Montessori classroom of 19 students, 6th thru 8th grades. Used to view educational dvd's, including lectures and documentaries. Often used by one student, with or without headphones. Sometimes, three or four students gather around. The Toshiba SD-P1900 does very well (video, audio, ease of use, durability) in this situation. Wish battery life were longer, but will usually make it through the day without requiring a recharge. I keep forgetting to turn the player off, and so more than once have drained the battery without realizing it. The on/off switch is on the side, and I wish there was a reminder warning of some sort. ![]() |
