"completely satisfied"
I've owned my dyson for a month now and I love it. It is easy to use and empty. I like not having to buy bags for it. Great product.

"First impressions"
After much research and deliberation, we took advantage of a sale and 20% BB&B coupon and got this for under $300. I find it brilliantly engineered and designed. It is all plastic but what vacuum isn't? Assembly and use is intuitive enough that instructions aren't needed (good thing since you don't get much). Emptying canister is a breeze and much more sanitary than our old Eureka uprights or Shark & Bosch canisters. Suction is great, though not revolutionary. Wand works well but was initially tough to get used to. The power cord is very long (which is apparently not the case with the ball). Maneuverability is better than I expected but I might still prefer a canister for our predominately hardwood floors.

Cons: as others have noted, staying upright at rest is dicey-- it hasn't fallen on us but we've only owned it a week. Attachments are few but it has all I need. I wouldn't pay over $300 for this, regardless of how good it is.

"OVERWHELMINGLY POWERFUL / POWERFULLY UNDERWHELMING DESIGN"
The DYSON slim has AWESOME suction, so it's a true shame that there are so many design flaws that hinder that functionality. The most overrated feature seems to be the ball-it is completely useless when trying to maneuver on rugs or carpet- even low pile! The cord has no place to be but underfoot, as the anchors provide no secure mooring. The weight prohibits use by older or less burly customers and the hose attachments are flimsy and work like low-grade product. Additionally, the 'SLIM' still requires a fair bit of furniture moving; the head isn't low profile enough and the maneuverability isn't great. An upright with this rep should be a prouder product; the eco-friendiness of a bagless system is sublimated by the dust and debris that jump out, when simply removing the lid from the bin. This isn't a vacuum for those w/asthma, back or skeletal issues. The motor would make a honkin' go-cart, I'm sure -Too bad the casing is crappy. Less $$$ on ads may be the key to hopping back to the lab for some more design development. I will stick w/ MIELE until DYSON gets it dialed.

"Awesome"
I had heard about the Dyson vacuums and their great reputation. I was truly excited to finally get one. The DC18 is slim and maneuvers in circles and spirals, awesome. I am still not comfortable with how it switches to "stick-mode" automatically because it sometimes does that when I don't mean for it to. Maybe I'll get used to that...

"WOW - Why buy anything other than a Dyson?"
Just purchased my Dyson Slim DC18 all I can say is one word WOW. This was to replace my former 12 year old (!) Eureka World Vac Boss (which used bags) which I was very happy with throughout the years. However recently the Boss detached a few times from the base which is not supposed to happen. We kept reattaching it for a while and it still seemed to work. But after a while you decide it has lived its life. Did my research on buying a new vacuum. Considered an Oreck as they are lightweight but said "no" when I found out the attachment tool is a "backpack" separate apparatus (what?) and also they are pricey. Looked at the Halo but read too many contradicting reviews for the ultraviolet light going out on the bottom and hard to replace the light from manufacturer. Decided on the Dyson Slim and boy am I glad I did! This thing is awesome. I figured the Slim model is perfect for my smaller house and more lightweight than the other Dyson models. I did my one area rug 5'X 7' first, and could not believe how much dirt and grime was sucked up by the vacuum (my kids had been laying and playing on that rug prior to me using the Dyson on it - YUCK) so much that my jaw dropped - the carpet looked like I had just shampooed it. Did the rest of my house. The vacuum is AMAZING. Just got it, so I am on a "high" from it right now. Will try to touch base in a few months on if the "high" I am currently receiving from using this remains. However for right now, I am convinced of one thing, I will be recommending this vacuum to everyone I know who will listen to me rave on and on about it.

What our customer's say!

"Major disappointment!", Dyson DC18 Slim All-Floors Cyclone Upright Vacuum Cleaner

Last year when I asked for a new Bissell for Christmas, my husband and daughter insisted that I deserved the best vacuum cleaner available, so they bought me the Dyson DC18. For the first couple of months, I loved it (after I figured out the very vague instructions). Then it started catching on my berber carpet and ripped it up. It took several weeks to even get through to customer service. They told my husband that you're supposed to turn the beater bar off when vacuuming berber. (Thanks for not including that tidbit in your instruction book!)So I turned the beater bar off. Again, it ripped up not only the berber carpet, but a carpet runner in another room. We tried to take the vacuum to a local repair shop, and were told that no local shops are authorized to work on Dysons. Several more conversations with customer service later, we were told to take pictures of the carpet to prove our claim. My husband stated that I had trimmed off the pulled-up loops to avoid further damage. He was then told to have me vacuum the carpet again to CREATE MORE DAMAGE to be photographed. He refused. We were finally given the name of a repair shop in the next state that will take care of the problem. At least that's what they say. They have my Dyson now, and as far as I'm concerned, they can keep it. I'd love to get my money back from Dyson, so I can replace their piece of junk with a cheaper, more reliable vacuum that doesn't ruin my carpet.

"Best Vaccum I've ever used...", I was a bit skeptical, because of all the hype. I was using my old vacuum 3xs per week with very little dust being collected and here I think, it's just so clean...right? Well my vac broke and I had my eye on this dyson for while. Once I brought it home, I used it and I got things out of my cartpets as if I had never once vacuumed my home. I love it and if something on it breaks (which hasn't) I will certainly have it repaired and use it till it dissentigrates.. I love it!! (Great for allergies)

"Power button broke already", I bought the Dyson DC18 in April, 2007. I only used it maybe half a dozen times. Last Sunday, the power button broke. When I press down on it, the power comes on. When I remove my finger, the power goes off. I had to sent it off for repair. This is disappointing for a vacuum cleaner that cost $469.99. I had an inexpensive Kenmore that lasted over ten years without servicing. And the Kenmore will probably last another ten years without servicing.

"Amazing Vacuum!", I absolutely love this vacuum. It is small, lightweight, and relatively quiet (at least compared to my old vacuum). The only two complaints I have is that it is sometimes difficult to turn off (you have to hit the button in a certain way) and it can be hard to set the vacuum in "stand up mode" because the latch doesn't always catch. Minor inconveniences, but not enough to deter me from recommending this vacuum to everyone.

"Dyson is the best on the market", I have owned the Dyson DC04 full size vacuum for almost 5 years and love it. However, I was looking for something a little smaller and lighter weight. So, I bought this Dyson DC18 Slim.

The Slim is much easier to push on thick carpet. Plus, it has a roller ball which makes it easier to maneuver. Compared to the DC04, the Slim has a lower profile so I can get under a few things that I could not with the bigger vacuum. I also like the shorter head because I can get into more narrow places.

Because the Slim is smaller and lighter I wondered if it had as much power, so I put it to the test. I vacuumed with my big Dyson then immediately vacuumed the same area with the Slim. I was amazed at how much dust, dirt and pet hair the Slim still got.

Advantages of each:
Wider brush head to get the job done quicker, advantage goes to the larger Dyson.
Lighter and more maneuverable, advantage goes to Slim.
Suction power, advantage goes to larger Dyson, but only by a slight margin.

Bottom line: Both vacuums are powerful and no bags to buy. And, I would recommend either one. However, if you need something a little easier to push, then get the Slim.

Read this reviews before You buy...

"almost as good as I had hoped", Works great. The only problem being that it has to be emptied after each use. That was the reason I didn't buy the new Ball. It's easy to manuever,, easy to empty

"Great little vac!!", Wasn't planning on spending this much $ on a vacuum cleaner, but after reading all of the positive reviews, I was sold. This model is slim and perfect for anyone who has tight spaces. I live in a city studio, and this vacuum cleaner is perfect. It fits in tight spaces and the swivel head is ingenious! I was ready to buy a $45 DirtDevil at Target, but remembered my bad experience in the past with cheap vacuum cleaners. After doing a ton of research and faced with an opportunity to purchase this unit at a good deal, I took the plunge. You definitely get what you pay for.

"Dyson DC18 Slim Great Product", Super vaccuum. This is the second one I bought. One for my wife & one for my mother. A little pricey but what an exceptional cleaning machine and the ball makes getting in tight spots a breeze.

"Great machine!", After trying out our new Dyson DC18, I had to call my mother to tell her that I was cheating on my husband and was in love with a vacuum. Anyway...it's great. I love the size-it's small enough that I can stash it on my first floor rather than having to lug it up and down from the basement. It's quiet- I can use it easily while kids are sleeping and not wake anyone up. It's effective- I was repulsed to see how much *gunk* came out of the carpet the first time that I used it. Blech, but very satisfying. The first time through the house I had to empty the container several times, but that was more a testimony to it's superior suction than to the small tank size. Once the initial clean was done, the tank size is just fine and I don't feel like I'm constantly emptying it. It's easy to switch from carpet to wooden floor with a push of a button near the handle. It's easy to release stuff that gets wrapped around the brush. Overall, I'm thrilled.

"Slam Dunk - Dyson for Life", Got my Dyson Slim yesterday and took advantage of the [...] discount. Put together was easy about 5 mins, funny side note, it took longer to take out the cardboard boxes and put in recycle bin than setup.

First thing I did after I got back inside was I did a sweep with the old vacuum and then with the new Dyson. Just some background I have an 1100 sq.ft condo. I was both quite disgusted and rejoice full that I filled up the canister of the Dyson after just doing a sweep with the old hover.

My old vacuum, the hover is about a 5yr. old, hand me down from parents, which I have had for a year, thought it was in good shape, and just did not like how quick the bags filled up and how costly they were.

But I can say that the before and after clean up I was quite surprised with the two brand difference/quality cleanup job they each do.

I can say that from now on I am a Dyson man for life. I now will have clean carpets thanks Dyson another satisfied customer.
